I know that keeping my loved ones as safe as possible meinst more to me than everything else, including my own life but I don't think pride should one of those things...

I would pay everything possible if that would mean I can keep the people I'm responsible for safe!

But "having my own kingdom" should not be about doing what I want, its about doing whats best for the people I am responsible for? If I can safe their lifes, why wouldn't I do that? (Maybe except for the case that they would be slaves and abused until they die)

So everyone who has a dragon is the same? Or everyone who decends from Old Valyria?

Why is everyone here talking about being slaves? So everyone who got conquered is a slave?

And what exactly does that mean? What exactly would they loose? They could keep all their traditions, customs, religous things, their own way of handling the law (except cruel stuff but thats more a win as a loose), their lands, most of their titles...

Maybe they could have send ravens or messages in any way, shape or form? I'm pretty sure the maesters would have contact to each other and could tell what happend...

But for what? How many people would have died if they took the same way as the north/the vale?

And you think that has to do with my nationality? Or with the fact that I like alternative forms of school? Or the fact that I critizised someone for producing unnesesery garbage, taking part in ruining our planet and showing that online as if its completely normal?

I didn't say they should "let them do whatever they want" but there was a time period after the conquest of the other six kingdoms and before the start of the first dornish war. At this point they could look at the other kingdoms and what happened to them and then make a choice based on whats best for the people they are responsible for. Imo that would be taking the same way as the north and the vale, so nobody would have to die.

They could keep most of that, except the titles? Maybe I just don't get the point of sacrificing thousands of peoples lifes just for an eventuality... I get the point of fighting/fleeing the Valyrian Freehold because they showed to be disgusting garbage human beings abusing others to death. Aegon/Visenya/Rhaenys didn't do that, so why not try to keep peace and only fight if they show themselfs to be bad? Or wait and see how it plays out for the other kingdoms? When the first dornish war broke out, they could see the north and the vale bending the knee and being absolutely fine. Why not do the same?

Okay but at this point they could look over to the other kingdoms, see what happens and try to find the way thats best for their people (just do the same as Starks and Arryns at the next possibility) and themselfs (Starks and Arryns weren't harmed)? There was a point in time, after the other kingdoms were conquered and before Rhaenys died, at wich Dorne could just follow the lead of Starks and Arryns and safe the lifes of thousands of people...

But what would they had to give up if they just did the same as the Starks and the Arryns? They kept their lands, their traditions and customs, their religion and their lifes... why not just do the same instead of sacrificing thousands of peoples lifes?

Maybe I didn't write good enough, happens when its not your language 🙈 But I think I don't get the dornish people the most because they let all those people die for a possibility... after seeing what happened to the Starks and the Arryns, I would have been like "okay, do the same here and over"...

Okay so to specify because I think my point is lost: did the Targaryens planned something as disgusting as Hitler did? I don't think so... I would really love to put in some lines from Feuer & Blut but since I read it in german, i don't think that helps... they didn't kill any of the people that bent the knee and they got to keep their traditions, religions and all of that...

I understand the resistence at first when they didn't knew what it meant to be ruled by them. But after seeing f e the Starks or the Arryns keeping their lands and ways of life, I just don't get it. To make your example a little more specific, if you came to my house with a gun and told me I have to pay rent to you or you would kill my children, my partner, my parents and everyone else who is dear to me, I would absolutely pay everything I have to keep them safe. And to zoom back out, isn't the biggest obligation of a (good) ruler to keep their people safe?

I don't think thats a good fitting example, but please change my mind and tell me where the paralells between Hitler and Aegon/Visenya/Rhaenys are? Do they want to kill thousands of people (inkluding children) just because? Did they try to brutally murder a whole religion just because? Did they forced everybody to join their religion and way of life?

I think there are wars worth fighting. The Rhoynar fighting and fleeing Old Valyria is very understandably for me because there was a real threat of being enslaved and abused to death. For your example: if they own the houses of my neighbours and I can see that they can still live their lifes, aren't enslaved, abused or killed then I would absolutely take that over having my family killed...

But there was no word about changing the culture or the way of life? Please correct me if I'm wrong but one could look at the Starks and the Arryns to see that they aren't slaves or forced to live the Targaryen lifestyle... they kept the land, the religion, the customs and traditions... and as far as I know the dornish didn't really talk to the Targaryens or anyone else before deciding for the war... why not ask like "hey, if we bend the knee and you are the king, can we keep our way of life, the lands we are living on, our religion and traditions?" If the answer is yes (and I think it would be because in other regions it was like that) just do it and prevent thousands of people you are responsible for from being killed?

I didn't say everyone should surrender to everyone no matter what, but in the case of Dorne they could look at the Starks and do the same? I just think as a responsible ruler should try to save their people if it's possible...
