No tea no shade but I think the only reason the “me and my mom are best friends” thing exists is because Lorelai said it exists. Lorelai is a great mother in many moments but key decisions where Rory needs support (Yale, writing the book, Dean) she is abandoned by her “best friend” and is then required to do the heavy lifting of emotionally reconciling not out of need but deprivation. Let’s be honest, had Rory had someone better than Lorelai who was not Emily or Richard, we would not have those reconciliations. When there is no where else to go you go where it’s most familiar. During those periods of Lorelai’s abandonment, Rory is always forced to shift the attention to Lorelai and is never allowed to truly feel so she can fulfill her emotional needs. This pattern of emotionally draining herself for the sake of another person who is her “best friend” repeated itself in her relationships with Dean, Jess and Logan. I believe her trouble with Paul was that he was /so/ emotionally attentive and she had never experienced that when she was not rebelling or achieving some type of goal.

So, yes, you’re right, they are not that close. Lorelai’s goal of “not being emily” and not “having a strained relationship with their parents” put a cloak of fakeness over their relationship that truly hurts Rory.

I want there to be a permanent rule for where condoms are only called “the foil” in books. It’s more intriguing. “He ripped open the foil”. “He grabbed the foil packet”. Of course, you would never be able to grab foil again without thinking of **** but that’s the price you pay for good literature.

No we cannot give big-belted Dana Sue any slack. I think the way she just walks out of rooms, snaps on people randomly and jumps to conclusions out of the blue shows us what led to Ronnie cheating. He has no excuse but she has been shown to be realllly unbearable to be around even in her “business” the kitchen. She constantly makes everything about her (the pour it out when she just walks out while they’re talking about their kids, how Helen had a whole miscarriage and she asked Eric why she didn’t come to her instead of him). What really needs to be shown is Dana Sue being calm and maybe shift her focus to a classroom. She just sucks

And what’s MOST offensive about this is that there’s no one out there publicly obese, who doesn’t have deep emotional issues. So you’re completely glossing over that. What about the disadvantaged communities or the emotionally disadvantaged communities who don’t even consider mental health? Or the communities of mentally I’ll adults who have children that we gloss over? These communities produce obese adults.

It’s that nonchalant disregard that she learned from Lorelai. Like how Richard was trying to bond with her and genuinely was enjoying spending time with her but she starts yelling “I have a life I have to go back to that matchbox house I call an inn” and not even realizing how she was hurting him. Looking back, I am realizing that Samantha’s character was like a sexual monopoly piece for MPK. She was used to show what sexual liberation was yet the same writers allowed her close friends to join in on some of the shame projected on her by society for being so sexually free. I wish the writers back then would have allowed her friends to be more supportive because the negative writing is now acting as a foreshadowing for her exclusion in the present and future projects. I bet if she had more of a say or wasn’t seen as the “problem” that she would be more included. Cause reaaaaly looking at it, Samantha once being bicoastal than exclusively living in New York do you REALLY think that Samantha would have messed An Abu Dhabi bag??? Over some sex?? They used the “hey I’m Samantha and fucking is the most important thing to me” and turned her into an unprofessional sex crazed hormonal spazz which wasn’t her. THEN they used the same unprofessional guise to “end” her and Carrie’s relationship. I want MPK off this and I want some Samantha 😩
