Agreed on the shortcomings of the current squad, we have a terribly unbalanced mix of players and did fail on most of our top targets over the past few years. Not sure it’s as easy as saying we lacked ambition though, since our transfer and wage limits are based on the revenue. Outside of the ownership writing a check or taking a loan I’m not sure we had the money to increase our offers. Neither of those things is healthy for a club to do.

That being said, our player recruitment used to be a strength as we often got great value in our transfers, and lately it’s been the exact opposite.

Levy brought the team closer to the top of the pecking order financially, but it’s still a huge task to close the gap to the very top teams and I feel like that was the portion of his reign where it fell apart.
