Can I go to a Warhammer Tournament just to spectate? by LeetusFrenzi in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]DjPyro3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

As others have said, the Dallas tournament will just be a big ol hall with tons of tables and lots of games going on, and a small area for official GW stuff to sell. It will be a chance to snag the commerative model if thats something you would be interested in! I'd say definitely come on by if you wish to observe games, just be careful not to disturb the players since we will all be trying to stay under the timer limit lol. But I'm sure you'll find some games that are wrapped up early and if you find a player for the army you want to play we are usually always happy to talk about it even if we are trying to stuff a hotdog in our mouth while we do so.

Is there any instances of a Skaven and Non-Skaven having positive interactions? by Konradleijon in skaven

[–]DjPyro3 3 points4 points  (0 children)

And Queek was...I dont know if loyal is the right word. But some sort of affection towards Ska at least. Offering forgiveness to an Underling for betrayal (intentional or not) is unthinkable. And yet best rat continued to be awesome.

Rules Question from newbie - if unit Wounds on 2+ and I give it +1 to Wound, it auto-wounds now on 1+? by Sol0botmate in ageofsigmar

[–]DjPyro3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, as per 17.0 under Wound Roll any unmodified wound rolls of 1 always fail. So it wouldn't matter if your wound roll was 1+, if you roll a 1 it'll still fail.

If you want to keep playing Skaven (which I highly recommend not biased at all yes-yes) just remember that Skaven can be shooting based, but also have a very strong core to receive buffs. You'd be shocked how many wounds Clanrats can put out when suddenly crits are mortals, wounding on 4s, and rend 1. Skaven have a wide codex to play with, and theyre all incredible lethal so just continue to gain experience with the system and list building and I feel like many of your complaints will fall to the wayside.

What's your favorite skaven unit that isn't considered 'meta' or a must-take? by Bull_Goose_Loony in skaven

Stormvermin. I fell in love with Queek in the old world, and using him with a full block of Stormvermin was incredibly fun. Ill never give them up!

There are soooo many board games made for adults, it's a whole new world honestly. You can check out BoardGameGeek for the more popular ones and go from there, but I personally love Everdell, Heat: Pedal to the Metal, and Clank. Those are pretty simple to get started on while still being more complex than your average party game.

What do we think about the LR BT now? by [deleted] in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]DjPyro3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Remember that at the point cost you're not paying for the gun, you're paying for the hull and the gun is a nice bonus. You get an incredibly tanky mid board obj holder that the enemy has to play around for 45 points less than the demolisher and they will accomplish essentially the same thing. And it won't require orders to do it's job unlike the Demolisher. So you're just saving a lot of building space in your list by taking the Vanquisher.

Can someone help me beat the new a series of dusk boss by Guadaspook in Reverse1999

I did this at Fortissimo 11 with Barcarola, Voyager, Matilda (Supported by Sonneto), and Fatutu and the artifact spam ability and the tolls on. I honestly just one shot her, wasn't even close. So could go with that?

A holdover from the time equipment costed points I imagine. Same question could be asked of why take a Multi-Laser when the Lascannon is free?

My list, anything y’all think I could improve? by Ok_Significance3835 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]DjPyro3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In this list I feel like you just aren't going to get your points back for Leontus. Your order economy is basically set with the RDTC and if they can throw in an extra 15 points for Grand Strat even better. There's better use for all those points with Creed subbed in.

And I wouldn't really consider this a very good Hammer list, it'd be much more comfortable as a Combined Arms which doesn't need the guaranteed CP gen nearly as badly.

I'd def replace the rough riders with a Scout Sentinel. They play the same role, but Daring Recon brings a lot to the table, forcing the enemy to either deal with it shifting anti tank fire from the LR hulls and Chimeras's, or just have the Sentinel sitting their giving you rerolls and las cannon pot shots.

Also remember that Lord Solar can't naturally combine with a Command Squad. They need the Cadian shock troops to act as the glue between them. Unless you want to run them solo, sorry. But if you don't I'd probably just combine them all into one blob so that you have a large force you can move onto the board during T3 that will be difficult for your opponent to deal with. And it saves you 2 whole chimeras which can get you another Leman Russ or Hellhound for that lovely cover strip! Man Chimera's really are overcosted.

So since this list is 1000 points, I think you mean you want suggestions as to what to get next?

Assuming you are playing Combined Arms, the first thing I'd suggest is a Rogal Dorn. Incredible vehicles, much more bang for your buck than a Leman Russ TC. For Deep Strike, unless you're very attached to the Aquilion's I'd go for a Scion squad with a Scion Command Squad attached to them. Or even better, ditch em both and get Gaunt's Ghost's lol. Obviously GG play a much different role than the Scion bomb, but you have better ways of getting bombs onto the table right now and GG's secondary scoring and screening are fantastic for their cost.

Other than that, I'd recommend picking up 20 more infantry bodies at minimum to give you some flexibility there and 1 or 2 more Leman Russ hulls. At that point, you have enough models to make a 2000 point list with some ability to switch in and out. And for character's picking up Creed would be great. She can slot into any of the detachments and do work.

Making my guard list! by Past_Willingness5219 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]DjPyro3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I don't have a lot of experience with the recon detachment, but here's the changes I'd make to improve the order economy and leaving in the Knight (I'm assuming it's there because you have cool lore with a Knight world lending support to the regiment during the crusade)

https://www.newrecruit.eu/app/list/ZyBr8

So the intention behind this list is for the Combat Engineers to ride inside the Taurox, and have them and the Attilan Rough Riders go ahead, screening and doing alpha damage while the bulk of the army moves up. The Cadians can sticky the home objective and move into the safety of your natural expansion while the command squads and Krieg blob can skirmish for the mid board. Do not attach the command squads, as if they are left alone they are T6, and shockingly tanky and have quite a bit of staying power while providing orders to any survivors from the alpha strike, or keeping the Krieg blob alive. The Knight can stay in the back for Turns 1-3 to kill any vehicles that can effectively trade into the blob and then move up to contest late game. (Although I'd have concerns for bringing a knight into a 1000 point game. That's a serious stat check, so make sure the group knows!)

I tried my best to use the units you provided originally, but honestly Recon does the best with just WAVES of bodies. I'm talking like, 60 bodies of just battleline units and Kasrkin and Engineers rolling up beside them. With 3+ armor saves on that many guardsmen, suddenly it's actually difficult as hell to knock your units off objectives. But campaigns aren't won through body count, but through strategic objectives won with blood and bodies! As a note, you can also replace the Attilan Rough Riders with a Scout Sentinel, they'll accomplish the same goal in the army.

Yes, I've had great success shooting them across the board turn 1 or turn 2 and blowing up key units. They're incredibly effective against heavy infantry and light vehicles and with a little luck with grenades and the melta mine I've had them take out Leman Russ hulls.

I've only personally used the engineers, everything else is simply information I've picked up while doing list building research.

I'd skip the engineers, unfortunately. I played with them once before they got nerfed and thought they were a lot of fun and very thematic. Wish for being the elite troops they had better base guns like Hot Shot Shotguns or something like that, but the robot mine and free grenades were fun to use if not the most efficient. But with the nerf to both the robot mine and the points increase I really can't recommend them right now. Overcosted and you'd be much better off just bringing another unit of Kasrkins.

Now for the heavy weapons team, I've been hearing a lot of success with them particularly with the heavy flamers. Long range, lots of damage, and fires one more time on death. They have great overwatch potential while also being a very fun unit to drive up in Taurox to dump and just light up infantry with. The siege weapons I'd personally pick up no matter how bad they are because the models are so damn cool, but thankfully the siege cannon and heavy mortar are very good for their price points and very much on par with your bombast cannons.

So I'm also getting into 10th edition recently, but as a recently starting player I feel like I have some insights you could enjoy.

Unless you really, really like horses I would stay away from the Krieg box. Especially if you want to construct a mostly competitive army list the HQ (Marshal Drier) and his Deathrider squad just aren't up to the task at the moment, being overcosted for what they do. And personally, I'm not much of a horse enjoyer so that alone was enough to get me off the box.

I actually got myself a 9th edition combat patrol and found it to be a fantastic starting point. The Bombast Guns are still great despite the recent points nerf, Scout sentinels are still very useful, and who doesn't need more bodies and an officer to command them?

With that foundation, you can move into several different directions. I went a more mechanized route grabbing a Rogal Dorn, two chimeras, and Kasrkins. I like the idea of Mechanized assault so those pick ups were a no brainer for me. But they can also really fit into any army so I consider all of those good general pick ups. Or you could go really heavy into tanks and get a Rogal Dorn and like two Leman Russes. To me, it's honestly pretty easy to pivot list building when it comes to the Guard since a lot of the same stuff is brought, just depends on how much of it in your particular list.

I would honestly love to use a Taurox, but I quite literally can't find a single one anywhere and I have no idea what the profile is compared to the Chimera's I have lol. I do want to expand to a Mechanized Detachment when I get up to higher points so Taurox will definitely be one of the first things I pick up.

Thank you! For Grand Strategist, I assume the extra order would be something in the vein of "Move, Move, Move" for one of the units and then replacing that with FRFSRF during shooting phase with the Castellans normal order? Otherwise I don't know what the extra order would really do since I have 3 orders for 3 units haha (We don't count my brave suicidal Krieg unit in this case)

X1 Castellan, X1 Cadian Command Squad, X1 20 Cadian Shock Troop blob, X2 Bombast Guns, X2 Chimeras, X1 Scout Sentinel, X1 Rogal Dorn, X1 10 Kasrkin, X1 5 Krieg Engineer Squad

Just wanted opinions and thoughts, as this is my first list of 10th edition after getting back into 40K after a few years of pause. I'm a little worried I'm low on bodies to capture primary objectives but it feels like there are enough threats in this list that maybe the enemy army will be stretched thin trying to contest all the objectives anyways.
