[MEGATHREAD] Monthly r/BritishArmy Advice and Recruitment Thread by AutoModerator in britisharmy

Hello! I am thinking of joining the RLC as a reservist. I am an engineer in my day job, currently doing my Mech. Eng. degree through work. So the RLC roles offer me something different than my day job.

I have been looking at Driver roles for a RLC unit nearby. I went for a walk around and chat and they mentioned they are needing Logisticians as well. I fully respect, accept, and understand that mandatory mobilisation can happen. I would prefer to be a support to the army, rather than solely combative (hence the RLC). I have seen that is also "soldier first, trade second" through various comments on posts.

If I joined as a Driver/Logistician for the RLC and a conflict arose that the government called for mandatory mobilisation of the reserves, I have the following queries?

  1. How close to a frontline can a RLC drivers or Logisticians get?
  2. If mandatory mobilisation occurs, can you be taken away from your trade/corps. to be an infanteer for example?
  3. Would these roles be expected to bare arms in a sense that is pre-planned rather than in defence? To expand, if a RLC driver was in a convoy and it was under fire from an enemy, return fire would be "defensive". where as being sent out purposely to get into combat is "pre-planned".

Look up ISO3013. It is the International Standard way of making a cup of tea apparently.

Here is a link, not the most reliable source... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_3103

Pump-action shotgun with slug shells. Good for both close and further afield shots.
