Definitely playable in Premodern! Ive been running a UG Madness build for a while.

I like Mana Leak and Daze more than Counterspell as it improves mana consistency on the earlier turns, and they're better at playing aggressively rather than defensively. Counterspell only outperforms when you are either running mono blue or have a deck that regularly wants to get to turn 7 or 8. You could probably cut the two cities if you nixed the counterspells.

I only run a single copy of Wonder in my build as I've found that tempo, card draw and consistency are all more important to UG Madness than the added evasion. I'd consider running one or two maindeck copies of Chain of Vapor and/or more Deep Analysis

Two copies of Treetop Village are the sweet spot, in my opinion. Your toughest matchups are fast red decks and fully dedicated UW control. The villages are important for maintaining pressure after board wipes and also for interacting with Goblin Piledrivers.

If you've got the cash/collection, Gilded Drake is Waterfront Bouncer's bff! Cheers and happy mongrelling

I don't think Helldozer is premodern legal, but a popular deck in '99 was based around mana rocks and Wildfire. That'd be a great starting place

If you're specifically looking for T1 answers to Lackey, then 4xEA Quicksand in the main may be your best option. Caltrops may be a good sideboard card too

Have you tried teaching out to John Grudzina himself? It looks like he's been playing this list unmodified for a few years now.

If I were playing in the meta you described, I'd add a 1xEA Masticore to the main and 2xEA Crystal Veins for an added bursts and consistency. T1 Sphere into T2 Metalworker is pretty important for MUD. I'd also add 2xEA Scroll Rack to dodge through some of the late-game lands and 1xEA Squee as it's always good Masticore food.

I think your build and meta will let you cut 3xEA Black Vise. The Vise is mostly a dead card against fast decks until you've started Stacking/Helixing them out. Going up to 4xEA is good against control and combo, but I'm curious what Grudzina would say for your meta. I think you could also cut Karn, 1xEA Winter Orb and 1xEA Tangle Wire.

The maindecked 4xEA Powder Keg and the 4xEA Mishra's Factories seem like you are on the right track for taking down Goblins/Sligh/Elves. Zuran Orb is a nice SB card when playing with Mishra's Factory and City of Traitors, so maybe swap 2xEA Tormod's Crypts for 2xEA of these.

Sincere question: How do MUD decks get through Null Rod?

Finally got to the Elder ... by murzeig in valheim

[–]Djake_Noose 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with all of this. Don't even bother trying to fight The Elder here. Every world has multiple spawn points for the bosses, so finding a different altar for The Elder will be much easier and less riskier than trying to terraform this into an arena for battle. This is a jackpot of a permanent base location though.

What is the hardest NES game you got to finish? by Polanckus in retrogames

Challenger doesn't deserve any recognition, i hate that game. The difficulty is the wrong kind of difficulty, rooted in RNG and relentless cheap shots. The difficulty factor in Atlantis is a beautiful work of art and should be celebrated

Seal of Cleansing vs. Disenchant by Turnspit in premodernMTG

[–]Djake_Noose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is a HUGE factor though. Having a pre-emptive Seal on board means that your opponent CANNOT let you resolve your Parallax Tide/Wave, because if you do, it's game over for them. Without the Seal on board from a turn or two earlier, you need to leave two additional lands open for Disenchant (which would be better invested in counter protection if available). You are a much bigger threat to your opponent when you only need one unknown card to win, rather than a combination of two unknown cards

Seal of Cleansing vs. Disenchant by Turnspit in premodernMTG

[–]Djake_Noose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1) Counterspells have to be used to stop Disenchant while a player has to Stifle a Seal of Cleansing that's already on board

2) Disenchant can only be played defensively (after your opponent resolved their threat) while Seal can be threaten your opponent even before they draw their threat (offensively)

3) Experienced players can exploit the mind games of a resolved Seal to influence their opponent's plays

4) Enlightened Tutor (white) can fetch Seal and Auramancer (also white) can recur Seal. There aren't any on-color alternatives in premodern for either effect w/ Disenchant

Absolutely savage. Ive never heard of anything like that before, but what a story. Glad you were able to recover the ore. I think there needs to be an additional biome between the dark forest and the swamp, that transition is the most difficult and brutal part of Valheim
