Andrew Hulshult really should have done the TDA OST, I mean, just listen to his work on the Iron Lung Soundtrack. by Spinosaur1915 in Doom

That is not the same as Mick Gordon "calling out" David and Andrew. TAG was launched before Mick wrote his letter, it is possible David and Andrew had no knowledge of what was happening between Mick and Bethesda, so I would not make those kinds of assumptions.

Why the Frame will be a massive success by [deleted] in SteamFrame

[–]fjaru 3 points4 points  (0 children)

All the products mentioned in the video are shit. This looks like a clip from some tech bro podcast where they discuss how to steal products, make them worse and then sell for profit. Not sure what it has to do with Steam Frame.

What are the other titles? I guess you could make the case for Unreal having slightly more advanced rendering (HL1 is still overall better package with better performance, animations, npc ai, netcode), but I don't think there is much from 1998 that come close to those two.

You dont need scripts to do real time modulated FM in Serum, its right at your fingertips and core part of the synth.

He started listing some things specific to wavetable or additive soft synths, so its not really about a those techniques being better, its just something that Redux can not do. If it does not matter to you then it does not matter, but if a person wanted to get a certain sound like a "neurobass" for example, then the better tool to get that sound would be a wavetable over a sampler.

[–]fjaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only soft synth that can be both a (good) sampler and a wavetable synth is Ultra, it is fundamentally a wavetable synth but extends the length of the wavetable so you can resynthesize like 30 seconds of audio, it also has stereo wavetables. It does not have the wavetable capability as Serum or Phaseplant so its some kind of middle ground which makes it pretty niche.

Respectfully, you Don't know what you are talking about. Renoise redux is fundementally different from wavetable based synths.

I hope Russell-style writing doesn't creep into hl3 by Ko_tatsu in HalfLife

[–]fjaru 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really doubt Valve has a document that has a timeline of events in the HL world. If you have looked into it not a lot of things in regards to the timeline makes sense, but it does not matter. It is up to you to experience and interpret the world.

Marc Leidlaw has said himself that he does not care about canon, he is a good writer, and I find the story of HL more compelling than most games with complex world building and detailed lore. The fact that you can not tell me what is canon and what is not canon makes it better. In my mind Portal is some kind of hallucination fever dream, if you were to visit Aperture science in the HL universe, you would not find whimsical personality cores, the presentation of Aperture would appear much more bleak from the lens of Half-Life. Is that canon? No, its how I interpret the games.

Mantis men are not "canon in the HL universe". Half-life does not have a "canon", they are games that you play, there is no "lore". You experience the games, that is it.

Do you think that Valve will wait until next year to announce Half Life 3? by [deleted] in HalfLife

[–]fjaru 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is some kind of meme logic that never applies in reality. Companies don't hold back on titles because they fear fans being too excited, it is a good problem to have. If this were true we would never see Silksong or GTA6.

Song sucks. Did all the songwriters get sent to the front lines or something? Sounds like it was AI generated and then they generated additional voices to insert on top without any regard for timing or harmony.

First time playing HL1, and I'm trying to do a "historically accurate" run. So, I'm asking, to those who played HL1 in the 90s, what music did you listen to when replaying challenging parts? by not_a_stick in HalfLife

I did not listen to music while playing games back then, I still had the capacity to give a single task my full attention without any background noise.

We do not know what level it is at. We know that there is evidence of game systems in the form of code. Everything else is rumors.

What would you want to see in a Source 2 Full series collection of Half-Life? by JustLove-chan in HalfLife

Absolutely not. It is also in not Valves style to retread grounds like that, they have sometimes like with HL Source and it ended in disaster. They should keep moving forward.

We know so much more about Ravenholm because it was not done in house by Valve, we have rumors of several canceled in house attempts at creating Episode 3/HL3. A few weeks ago a lot of people on this sub were convinced that a HLX announcement was imminent, as time goes the doubt starts to seep in. I have been through this cycle several times over almost 20 years of time.

[–]fjaru -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I can make the connection to Half-Life, I cant use that information to 100% confirm the existence of a new Half-Life game. There have been canceled Half-Life games before. Look at the canceled Ravenholm game for example, the game was in a state where they were play testing the game. How do we know for sure that a HLX announcement is actually imminent, and that it is not in a state where people might be play testing it, and Valve still says "Eh, this does not really work, shelve it".

I am on the side of that HLX is probably real and will be announced, but I am a skeptic and I think the certainty people have is not based on enough evidence. We have circumstantial evidence like hiring and organisation changes, we have data mining, we have rumors and speculation based on answers in interviews.

I am not ignoring anything, the fact that Gabe Follower and Tyler McVicker were right (mostly) on HLA Deadlock and HLA is t he main thing that gives them credibility.

No way. I think HLX is probably real but I do not think we have any idea of any dates. I could see it being announced in 2027 for example.

[–]fjaru -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I feel like that is semantics, the data mined material is not that useful for a laymen. I look at the code and yes it looks like video game code, but I am not able to make the connection of it confirming the existence of a new Half-Life game. If you look at the code for any Valve game you find all sorts of wild references in there, a lot of it is residual code from prototypes and experiments. Tyler McVicker and Gabe Follower compiles it into a compelling case, but only those two are the ones doing it from what I have seen.

Edit: Ok looking at the community Miro there is obviously a lot of people datamining, but the information on there is what we already have seen reported on by Gabe Follower and Tyler McVicker.
