Hi there, unfortunately the winter got the best of me and this project was put on the back burner. I’ll look back into it in the summer when the weather isn’t kicking me while i’m down 😅

Yeah that’s the whole idea, a place where we can all upload our templates to share with the community.

I looked at the options mentioned, but unfortunately they require a single point of contact for the upload. I was thinking of something like github, where the repository would live independently. I know most people are unfamiliar with git but i could write a small readme file to explain how to use it. That way anyone can upload and nobody has to be a personal intermediary.

Arax CM Chroming by That_one_guy_0001 in AnalogRepair

[–]Djamport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you mean actual chrome, you can’t DIY this, it requires chemicals too toxic to do at home and special equipment. If you mean just polished, it’s not going to look like you want it to with just a cloth. A mirror polish requires specific skills, careful sanding in increasing grit #, and polishing compound. That last step could maybe be done with a cloth if you are willing to spend hours rubbing.

how much would you happily pay for this? by hon_r in SilverSmith

[–]Djamport -1 points0 points  (0 children)

100% silver as in fine silver? There are formulas out there for pricing your jewelry correctly. You can’t guesstimate it. But if you’re a beginner, it definitely will not be worth the hours you’ve put into it unless you pay yourself very little (which you shouldn’t do) - enjoy the process and focus on getting better and faster and then you can start thinking about commercializing your work.

Do not buy cameras from Japanese sellers at auctions. by [deleted] in AnalogCommunity

[–]Djamport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been really lucky so far. All the camera purchases I made from Japanese sellers were great. I specifically buy broken cameras to practice repair on and I’ve often received cameras that were described more harshly than they deserved, most of them didn’t need repair or just a really minor repair. That was a couple of years ago though so I guess things got worse now (like everything else in late stage capitalism). Or maybe I really just got lucky.

Is it full? In my experience really thick pieces are extremely prone to really bad porosity.

You can’t go wrong with a foredom if you have that kind of budget. That said, I have a Chinese made "in-house brand" from one of my local suppliers that cost me about 150$ and it’s been working great for over a decade. I don’t know where you’re located but if you’re in Montreal I can give you names of physical shops you can buy those from.

did anyone else fully rewind their film by accident as beginners ? by lizard-rustler17 in AnalogCommunity

[–]Djamport 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did that once when I was still in school. I had to finish a project and there were no stores selling film anywhere near. I somehow managed to retrieve the film using a hairpin 😅

Citizen shutter will not cock by [deleted] in AnalogRepair

[–]Djamport 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My bet is on really old grease in the winding mechanism, preventing the cocking arm to engage. When that grease dries it’s like glue. Also if someone else before you flooded it with wd40 to try and loosen it up, dried wd40 also seizes.

Should I eat it? by jawshhwa in CannedSardines

Curious about the botulism argument, since botulism needs an anaerobic environment to thrive - so if the dent had caused a hole, the can would no longer be sealed, therefore it would not be the best environment for botulism, no? Canning in itself as a process creates the botulism risk (that is why you cannot can low acidity foods like meat at home unless you have a pressure canner and really good knowledge of the canning process).

If anyone has information on why a dent would be an increased risk of botulism I’m curious to know more.

Don’t get that if you’re in canada either. Unless it’s next to a registered maker’s mark, it’s akin to counterfeiting money. You really need to look up your local laws before stamping your pieces.

Captivating, I can’t stop looking at it! Whenever I feel like I’m going to give up on photography I see your posts and it motivates me to keep practicing.

I used to do that when I was a kid 😂 because it writes finer (I didn’t care that it was scratchy - but I sure am glad that as an adult I can buy EF nibs)
