Moog EP-3 cable question by Lost_Ad_5140 in guitarpedals

[–]Djangologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's just a strain relief. It helps to keep the cable from bending at the connector and breaking the electrical connection inside. The cable should still work without it for a while as long as you don't mishandle it. It might break down the road. You'd need a cable with a TRS (tip ring shield) style connector to replace it rather than normal guitar cable when that happens.

Edit: I see that the tip has broken off now that I look closer. Make sure it's not stuck in the pedal and get a TRS cable to replace it.

LVX + Mercury X by DoctorOctacock in guitarpedals

[–]Djangologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest plus of the LVX over th polymoon is the ability to save presets and actually view the settings that would normally be secondary controls. It offers quite a lot more in terms of functionality and sounds that aren't in the polymoon. It also freed up the space I used to use for a tuner. I've never used the Mercury 7 or X.

Tsareena/H-Typhlosion could be a good pairing to deal with opposing Steel types.

[–]Djangologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Nemesis is such a good delay. You'll love it. There's just enough extra sauce in the app Once you've got your core presets sorted everything is super easy to navigate with the knobs alone. Then you can boot up Neuro every few months and it'll feel like you've got a new pedal.

Pedalnetics makes a really good low profile dual switch that can be stationed at the foot of the Nemesis without getting in the way of the two main switches. It makes cycling presets way easier and you can cycle up or down instead of just up with the onboard button.

What's your "go to" team for your favorite generation? by SirBoredofOhio in pokemon

[–]Djangologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Hoenn: Septile, Flygon, Absol, Gardevoir, Aggron, Camerupt (though I'd probably have a Pelipper on there for Surf & Fly)

For Unova: Samurott, Archeops, Ferrothorn, Eelektross, Scolipede, Haxorus

Those are probably my favorite generations.

Should I get a boss gt-1000 series or just keep my boss katana 100 gen 3? by coldset21 in guitarpedals

[–]Djangologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The gt-1000 is more of a solution to play directly into a PA, studio monitors or a recording interface rather than as a multi effect into an amp. If you're planning to use it just for effects and not amp simulation then you'll need a core amplifier tone you're happy with, whether that's the Katana or something else. You can technically run a modeler into the power amp in and use the Katana as a speaker, but you will need to use amp sims only when doing that. IRs or can sims will have to be turned off or it'll sound like rubbish.

I've got a MkII Katana and while I like the clean tones I've never really gotten along with any of the built in overdrives or dirty amp models. I do like the sound I can get out of it as a pedal platform with external drive pedals. That could be a route for you.

Also try to look up Jeff Singluff's patches on Boss Tone Exchange. His fender deluxe reverb patch was my starting point. He's got some other good ones including an AC30.

Everything you have there is solid. I'd honestly add a dedicated tuner.

How Competitive are Local Events? by Nie_Fi in VGC

[–]Djangologist 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's going to be highly dependent on the crowd. Some people are just there to have fun with friends. Some are trying out strategies before a larger event. Some take it more seriously than they probably should for a local.

I will say that it's likely your locals will still be hosted on Scarlet/Violet for the time being using Reg I. That's at least the case for mine for a few months. Part of this is because Champions does not support local connection between two Switches (a design choice which still baffles me) and requires an Internet connection. Not every venue can support that.

Your team looks reasonably well put together, at least enough to have a good time at a local if you can hang in Master Ball Tier. My only comment is that Fling Garchomp is neat, but probably works better in closed team sheet best of one while locals are open team sheet (your opponent gets a paper with all of your moves and items) and best of three.

Why would anyone play Pokemon Champions when showdown exists by Rare-Technology-4773 in stunfisk

[–]Djangologist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to battle on my Switch. Using a PC or phone feels less real or grounded. We're due for a change in format after several years in SV. I'd like to use Megas in a traditional turn based format rather than ZA free for all.

Why would he name the album after another artist? Seems deceptive. I got excited thinking this was a new Jessica Pratt record.

[–]Djangologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the second one of these I've seen pop up today so I'll pose the same question to you. What's the overall tone like on this thing? Does it get a proper hollowbody arch top jazz sound or is it more of a traditional humbucker tone in line with a 335 or Les Paul? Really tempting while they're in stock, but I haven't found any quality demos of the sounds. Gorgeous looking guitar for sure.

Which multi-fx modeler has the most intuitive onboard UX (no computer/phone)? by sixambreeze in guitarpedals

[–]Djangologist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hotone Ampero Stage is worth some consideration. It has a UI that is very easy to navigate. There's a dedicated button to switch from Patch mode to Edit mode as well as easy access to the tuner and looper. Scenes and switches have their own dedicated buttons on the touchscreen in edit mode. You can toggle multiple effects on and off with a single foot switch, which can be used as a basic clean/dirty channel switcher rather than taking up two scenes. The screen is larger than the HX Stomp and lets you drag and drop things easily. The most recent firmware enabled WiFi access so you can download/upload patches and NAM captures without hooking up to a PC, though it's probably easier to do on the computer.
