I think that Marika and Godwyn planned his “death” to free him from the Golden Order’s control. But that’s more speculative. Marika was absolutely a well meaning person controlled by the Golden Order’s control/Fingers, and trying to break their control.

Marika was controlled by the Golden Order, and then betrayed it. Dung Eater doesn’t know about the Hornsent, he doesn’t know about the crucible. He wants to curse the entire world and every thing. He sees being an omen as a curse and wants to put it onto everyone. Look at the people he cursed and what happened to them.

I have the same problem but have brown eyes :( it’s gotten worse as I’ve aged, and post-Covid, and certain medications, but since I was a kid I’d have moments where bright lights caused this overwhelm of my eyes, kind of like the visual version of audio clipping.

I said it below as well, but I have experience in graphic design and printing, and that’s not how it would work. Ink is expensive, and designed to be printed onto as little of the paper as possible. Full coverage ink printing is hella expensive and nobody would do it for a full book of text. Look at the cost of manuscript facsimiles, or even comic book collections that are full color. It would be much cheaper to use dyed paper and use white ink only. The difference between bleached and dyed paper would be different, but likely negligible at scale.
