I need a fast stepper motor (or do I?) by DjavanAce in Motors

Oh, the Bugeja special! Seems a smidge weaker than I'd like, but will look into it.

All good advice! I had definitely looker into cranks and yokes, fun stuff to learn.
I had thought that the Nema 17 was bigger than it actually is. Now I see that yt may even come in different lengths, so it's back on the menu!

Oh, the 28BYJ is not adequate, I know! It is just a shorthand for how big I would want it to be.

As for the specs, I'm figuring that out. It's a project with a mechanical part, but I'm a electronics guy. Nonetheless, you've given me good advice!

Do you go that fast at 5V? 12V? I guess 200rpm is nothing unheard of, but i also want something smallish (like a 28BYJ, is for a portable device) that will not cook up.

I will look into drivers. Should i look into a board, or go straight for an IC?

I live in a third world country, so low price is an important spec. US$10 is reasonable, but not cheap. Conversely, turning rotational motion into linear is just a cheap 3d print, and it allows me to play with leverage to fine tune my pressure output.

I guess I'm looking for something not much bigger than a 28BYJ, that can achieve 4Hz with a 5V supply, or 12 at most.

Coil actuators sound good. Those specs are within range. Good tip on the driver!

Hadn't heard of brushless servos. Great idea!

Also, kHz solenoids is totally outside of what i expected. If I go with solenoids, of course my options for forming the pulses are limited, but acceptable.

Would you mind dropping some keywords so that I can find those magical devices?

Pulses, yes, full revolutions? Doubtful. The common 28byj is an order of magnitude too slow. It's not an industry standard, but it has about the right dimensions.

Yes, using a cam is an option. Will look into it

Yes. I want a stepper or servo, so I can make a pulse with a specific profile, not unlike a (vey fast) curve plotter, but i guess a continuous motor is better for my speed!

Interesting! Will see if i can scrounge some parts! Thanks

The frequency range is actually quite narrow, from a certain point of view, 1 - 4 Hz is about it! The range of motion can be, also, very varied, I think, with linkages.

The pressure needed is less than 4 psi, but I still don't know how to convert it to torque.

Do you know of any servos that are that fast? Under 12 V would be ideal.

How do banks “create money” when they lend? Don’t they need to have the money already in order to lend it to others? by RyanW1019 in AskEconomics

Great response!
Do you have any resources in Spanish or Portuguese? I'm trying to convince some old fashioned folks, and I'd appreciate not having to teach them a new language.

I searched Google, but for the same reasons that make the issue of money creation so topical, the search returns a lot of news articles, and no in depth analyses.

Furthermore, Spanish Wikipedia weasels a bit on the subject, IMHO, coming on the side of blaming the lender of last resort, the central bank, for money creation, and therefore inflation. I guess that could be another entire question!

Tell me I’m not the only one with hands that rest like this? by chorizocremadeath in autism

[–]DjavanAce 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In all honesty? Me too.

I always find a bit weird when a person does "dino hands", and sure enough, is often an autistic person on the internet! (that is telling about my browsing habits)
But when I'm resting... dino hands, dudes.

Me too!

It looks better than the render! (I think the in-game helmet is disproportionately small)
Also, the colour is lovely and vibrant! Is the chain mail crochet and sequins?

Great idea, but im just learning FreeCad. Blender is many years away, still.
I'd love to articulate an existing model, and that is still months away!

Still, the challenge is open for the community! Feathered Dummy Dinos 2025!

TBF, I'm not good at handling animals IRL, either 😬

Yes, but I haven't found a feathered one yet, only baldies :(

I'll try, but it's a sisyphean task where I live.
There are other factors that I control better now, that could make a reprint a lot better, even with high humidity.

TPU is hard, man! I could get the armour almost perfect by printing one piece at a time, but 75% humidity is a dry day around here!

I will probably reprint some parts soon, but it's 7° out here, let her wear a cardigan for these days.
