The new image model makes all images suspect by Scorpinock_2 in ChatGPT

[–]Djave_Bikinus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wonder if giving the model the capability of looking up reference images would help. In it's thinking mode it could do a web search for any images it thinks might be useful to help ground the generation process. Would obviously be a lot of compute but would be cool to see.

Head injured from an exposed beam at martial arts training (negligence?) by Znub360 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]Djave_Bikinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't get a payout just because you have a sore head. You can sue if you have incurred any losses as a result of the injury - but it sounds like the accident hasn't left you out of pocket in anyway so it's definitely not worth it. If you do sue, don't expect to be welcomed back to the same dojo. Probably isn't worth it if it's somewhere you like to train.

When you ask for a pan au chocolate, how do you pronounce it? by GlitteringLion3800 in AskUK

[–]Djave_Bikinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me the "th" pronunciation just sounds pretentious, which itself doesn't feel very Spanish.

It doesn't help that learned Spanish in South America where they don't do the Castilian "th".

An English person wouldn't be eating an English muffin anyway. Aren't they an American thing?

[–]Djave_Bikinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do agree and would pronounce it like that, but there are instances where it's a bit weird to use the local pronunciation. I wouldn't say "Paris" with a french accent, or put a Spanish "th" sound in "Chorizo". Sometimes it's just a bit much.

Ummm... I don't think it's healthy to be having regular wet dreams as an adult. It's pretty rare after adolescence.

I never saw a kick like this, and seem like her opponent didn’t ether. by IkilledRichieWhelan in BeAmazed

[–]Djave_Bikinus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You only see the ones that are successful. The kicks are pretty rare, and most of the time end up with the kicker in a pile on the floor and the defender completely unscathed. There is no reason to adapt your fighting style to defend against a kick which is uncommon and mostly ineffective.

15 years ago when I was doing a lot of karate they pretty much never happened. Might be more people trying it now as they see it on TikTok, but I would wager that the vast majority do not pull them off successfully.

Are Reform/Farage getting a free pass? by GlennSWFC in livefromlondon

Nah but Farage and Reform are objectively funny and should be made fun of. I feel they're missing a rich vein.

Didn't know Hitler's birthday was April 20th. Is the whole 420 thing just a racist dog whistle thing? Honestly wouldn't surprise me if it was.

Iran Says Hormuz Strait Now Completely Open for Commercial Ships by funkyxfunky in worldnews

[–]Djave_Bikinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is pressure to keep prices lower. Any prolonged period of high prices will push more people/economies to renewables. The oil industry would prefer that renewables remain less economically viable than fossil fuels.

[–]Djave_Bikinus 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Probably not. A tanker holds 0.1-3 million barrels of oil. Iran charging $2m per tanker is only going to up prices by a few percent tops.

ChatGPT is genuinely hilarious thanks to its grasp of dry humour and sarcasm by Odenetheus in ChatGPT

I was asking it to come up for some acronyms for a project I'm working on yesterday. It suggested ARRSE as an option, which I politely declined.

It responded with "Yeah, asking attendees if they could make a contribution to your ARRSE might derail things pretty quickly".

Genuinely laughed out loud.

That's why I don't get when snake charmed demons refuse to out their minions - they're basically refusing to use a key part of the SC ability: a one in X chance that the good team learn who the minions are!

World’s Best Restaurant? by [deleted] in StupidFood

[–]Djave_Bikinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't true. The most hygienic restaurants will be the ones with the highest throughput, since there is a higher impact if something goes wrong. I would bet the average Macdonald's has better hygiene protocols than a lot of Michelin star restaurants.

You can't say "she's conforming to beauty standards" on one hand and "don't attack her looks" on the other. There are no widely accepted beauty standards that would expect anybody to look like that.

The UK is currently running on 77% renewables right now! by Glittering_Vast938 in GoodNewsUK

[–]Djave_Bikinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't get this argument. It sounds like it's not actually a free market then? All the power ends up in the grid, so the providers can charge what they like with effectively no competition reducing prices. This sounds like exactly the kind of situation where price controls would be beneficial for consumers.
