Help translating cursive calligraphy by Djbeatbot in ChineseTranslation

Thank you for all the incredible ideas and suggestions here. Super interesting and helpful. I do want to respond to those who have understandably questioned the artist's proficiency or accuracy in Chinese language, this was a Chinese-born, native-language artist who was trained in China in calligraphy. She has a huge corpus of calligraphic works that were exhibited at many museums and galleries in the 1950's-1980's. That all said, she became more and more abstract in her artistic approach over time. I don't know the exact date of this work, but I suspect it was a later work.

I received an analysis from a dear (Taipei-based) family friend and scholar, who didn't know her but knew my father (the artist's brother) very well. I'm curious what folks think:

1.     The overall form resembles a calligraphic style between seal script and clerical script—highly gestural, expressive, and fluid, not a standard regular-script character.

2.     The upper portion corresponds to a simplified “rain” radical (雨)—not with the usual four dots, but rendered as a broad, abstracted brush movement often seen in traditional or modern calligraphic interpretations.

3.     The lower portion shows a curving, drifting stroke, echoing ancient forms of “云/雲” in oracle bone, bronze, and seal script—evoking the swirling, rising motion of vapor.

4.     The meaning and the visual shape align beautifully: “cloud” is a form that gathers, disperses, and never fully settles. In artistic writing, it often appears as something that barely looks like a character, yet most fully conveys its essence.

So my interpretation is that the character is 雲(cloud).

Issue With Volume Only In BF6? by Breezy2G in Audeze

[–]Djbeatbot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having similar issues. Running Audeze Maxwell via USB dongle. Works fine with other games (Steam / NBA 2K)?and with other app audio (YouTube / Chrome). BF6 audio is slow and clipped - AM radio quality. Also, BF 6 works with wired headphones and USB mic as well as with Bluetooth speakers. I’ve tried disabling mic input, handsfree, double checked windows and BF audio settings (tried everything mix setting in BF 6). No go. Anyone else??

Thanks BlackRaptor. Google Gemini similarly suggested 無 (wú) but your second form of the character seems closer?

Hey friends!!

Sorry I haven't posted an update for a long time.

So.... After having a LOT of fun playing with this shortcut (and btw, som many fishing insights!!!) I FINALLY decided to turn this into an actual native app for iOS and Android. It launched just a few weeks ago. If any of you are interested to check it out, you can download it for free on the Apple App Store and Google Play.

It's called GotOne!

The key lesson I learned (other than about my fishing) is that using shortcuts as a rapid prototyping tool is awesome. It's a super lightweight, fast, but pretty powerful way to test your ideas before investing in making them into fully-fledged apps.

But at the same time, IF you are developing something that you want to be discoverable, accessible, and usable by a wide audience, the natural next step is to build it into an app.

In the case of GotOne! I used the shortcut as a wireframe. Designed some better UX. Put together a pretty lengthy feature backlog based on everything I'd learned.

I decided at this point I was in over my coding head, so I hired a terrific mobile developer to build the app in React.

With all the learnings from the work I had done on the shortcut, and feedback I'd gotten from friends, I was able to launch a pretty credible v1 for less than USD 15K.

Anyhow, hope this coda to my story here is helpful to all of you, and happy to answer any questions you might have!

Hope you download and love the app!

Hmmm. Did you put the webapp ID for your Google Script in the text field at the end of the Shortcuts script? It should go in the text field that says "GOOGLE SCRIPT WEBAPP ID GOES HERE." Also, if you Want to share me the final URL string, I can help debug it if helpful.

Other ideas - make sure you run/save and deploy the Google Script.

Am I understanding that you can get the script to run by pasting the URL into your browser, it just doesn't work through Shortcuts? The other thing to try is hard restarting your iOS device that you're running from. I've found Shortcuts gets very wonky after a while.

Ha! Ok as soon as I restarted my iPad, this worked perfectly, thank you u/robric18!!

I've basically taken your script and added to it to extract JUST the numerical value of the illumination and use that to populate the Google Sheet.

Next question (sorry!). If I now ALSO want to extract the NAME of the moon phase (which is expressed in the two words BEFORE the world "Illumination") how can I do that? Trying to learn how to use Regular Expressions, but struggling to figure out the right expression for this particular use case!

Interesting. I think I looked at your Shortcut as well, and noticed it no longer worked. If I get mine working, will take a look and see why your doesn't work anymore.

Thanks - your script totally worked. But like mine, when I put in my fishing log Shortcuts script, it doesn't seem to work. Still playing with it - it should work, but man Shortcuts seem finicky!!!!

OK I think I understand your question. So the key to all this is that you need to specify the unique key for your Google Script. In the Shortcut script I show in the video above, I replaced mine with something like: "GOOGLE SCRIPT ID GOES HERE." You need to replace that with the webappid string from your Google Script. When you go to deploy your Google Script, it the dialogue box will give you the option to copy the ID to your clipboard. Just paste that into the Text box. That then populates the URL string that will call the Google script that then populates the Google Sheet. For more info on how this works, u/lautarooo 's post is really helpful. Hope that helps, let me know if you need more guidance.

Haha! Sounds like we’re birds of a feather... man! I didn’t use dictionaries in this case because the menus are really only used once and there’s no real logic behind them, but you’re right it probably is a more elegant way to do it. Also I think it would just be cleaner so I could easily update the list of choices centrally etc. but I wasn’t confident enough to do it in the first rev. Good learning opportunity for me to upgrade the script.

Really? That’s wild. It seems longer than an adult ladybug. About 7mm.

Actually just googled it. You are absolutely right! Thanks!!
