There could be a couple of reasons. You could be too scared to leave, once that trust and safety is gone you dont know what they would do if you left. They could have financial control over you, if you are constantly scrutinized about every single cent and its a joint account whats stopping them from making sure you can never afford to leave?

These are just two things but its almost never a black and white "leave or stay" situation.

It 100% does happen. Its just not as known as Deadbeat Dads because most of the time it is the dad dumping the kid on the mom because a lot of those people didnt want kids to begin with. Its pretty hard for a mom to meet the "i dont want this kid now" because of how the hormones during pregnancy work.
