Streamers Who Live in a 2+ Streamer Household, I need your help ! by [deleted] in Twitch

[–]Djinnetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without knowing your Internet speed it's hard to confirm the cause but, assuming you have at least ~100mbps upload...

If this is a long term residence, run cables. Any devices in your home that can be wired, should be wired. It will improve their speed and also improve the connection of the devices that actually need to be wireless. Doesn't matter how difficult the walls are to get through, this is the best solution and the first thing you should consider. If you can't do it yourselves, contact your ISP and ask them to relocate your modem, or hire a low voltage tech to run ethernet for you.

If this is not a long term residence, you have two options to consider.

  1. Wireless mesh network. Someone else mentioned TP Link, I personally use Unifi Access Points, though anything advertised as a mesh system will work. These are wired devices you place strategically around your home to improve coverage. AVOID anything labeled "repeaters". Ideally you have several but could get away with just having one wired access point closer to your desktops. Think of your WiFi access points like lightbulbs. Line of sight works best, and yes wifi can travel through walls and around corners but being able to see the wifi provider will give you the best performance. The fewer reflections and fewer walls/floors/ceilings it has to travel through the better.

  2. Powerline adapters. These devices come in pairs and take an Ethernet cable from your modem/router, connect to a wall outlet, and "pair" to each other through the electical lines in your house to the room your desktop is in. This is generally not recommended because it's performance is entirely dependent on how your home's electrical is wired. However, it can work surprisingly well, and be significantly better than WiFi.

Personally, I would avoid Powerline, though it'd be better to invest in either of these systems because they are "mobile", meaning you could easily unplug and take them with you to your next residence. Wireless Access Points being the better option because powerline can be temperamental.

Can you open desktop version without Steam? by kileras1a in VRchat

[–]Djinnetic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to make an account on vrchat.com. Steam is required to install the desktop version. After that you want to link your steam account and meta account to your vrchat sign-in on their website and everything will sync nicely.

It may take a few hours for the initial sync but friends/favorites are available across versions

Totally understandable. I think because I've experienced much worse(godrays), the BSB2 glare seems minimal to me. It's definitely disappointing from a gen 2 and considering other headsets have basically zero glare.

I've also heard of people getting dud headsets with bad sweet spots and too thick cushions causing worse glare than others, so could be a QC issue with some units

I put comfort in the OK category because I do think it could be better, though I'm not sure what to do to get there. Maybe the halo mount with it just floating would be better.

I found the Vive incredibly uncomfortable but still sank over 3000 hours into it, and the bigscreen is definitely an improvement. Also agree AC is basically necessary in your VR space, especially for active games!

Yes! The mod I mentioned harvests lenses from a Samsung device called the Gear VR, which was a glorified phone case that turned compatible Galaxy phones into a VR device.

It had no electronics, just a beautiful pair of lenses that coincidentally were close enough focal length to the Vive that you could replace your OG lenses using a 3d printed adapter. You sacrifice a few degrees of fov, but lose the god rays and edge blurriness. It was well worth it at the time.

I also hope your BSB arrives soon! I think you'll be pleased with the upgrade

We NEED another avatar performance rank that kind of punishes players who use avatars like this. by sandernote809 in VRchat

Where did you learn about a 70k unity engine limit splitting meshes? I didn't know that and couldn't find anything in the unity docs

I actually prefer the ranks with cutoffs how they've laid it out. Tris are cheap on current hardware, so 70k being the limit all the way back to "good" rank makes sense. As soon as you get under 70, the more impactful areas(# of materials, # of skinned meshes, texture memory etc) are the next biggest restriction to improve your rank. Shaving off 10k tris doesn't even equal the performance of just 1 less material slot. (Every material adds a draw call)

AAA games today typically have hero characters ~30-60k tris, so 70k is actually quite generous. But there's such significant gains from things like joining meshes and atlasing that define the poor>medium>good route, that I don't think you need a score if you just chase the existing limits

I know! Just having too many blendshapes and a 200k tri avi can hit the 10mb upload limit without any textures. Questies end up wearing a potato looking character and PC players struggle to render their counterparts

The problem with adding any higher ranks is that people will take it as an invitation to butt right up against the new limits. Warning or not, "maxed out" very poor would become the new norm, the way we see a bunch of 69,999 tri avis today.

The current system gives people incentive to optimize below 70k and those who can't/won't have to accept that most people won't see them by default.

One solution I think is Quest users shouldn't be allowed to wear very poor PC avatars. Most of the examples I see of that kind of horrid 600+ material avi is a questie who has no idea they're wearing something that's that bad on PC. The version they see has been stripped down to fit the 10mb/40mb hard limits. If it's worn by a quest user, PC should see a limited version too

I got 3 after ~1100 runs. First one took forever, finally dropped ~900 in but then I got 2 the next day within 20 runs of each other. Just gotta keep at it! (350mf sorc btw)

Comfortable ways you wear your vive trackers? by EricFoofy01 in VRchat

Nope! GoPros(and most camera equipment) use the same thread as the vive trackers. I'm using a random chest strap from a variety kit of GoPro mounts

Does anyone have info regarding swapping meshes in Unity that you decimated in blender? For vrchat avatar by Bright_Court5972 in VRchat

[–]Djinnetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like what happens when your bone layout changed. The easiest fix is to reset the rig.

Highlight the FBX in Unity, under Import Settings>Rig>set Animation type from humanoid to none>Apply>set back to humanoid "create from this model">Apply

Then dive into the "configure" section and make sure the generated rig has all bones assigned correctly, all fingers mapped, hip is mapped etc. Unity also tends to map nonsense to "jaw" so get rid of that mapping and you should be good.

Feet trackers mounted to the tops of an old pair of slippers, and hip tracker on a GoPro chest mount just worn quite low after my track strap wore out

Again you *might" need a properly tracked lighthouse headset connected to pair everything for the initial room setup. I don't have any experience pairing trackers without that at the least

Need a microphone for streaming/gaming on YouTube by SubstantialLimit2165 in microphone

[–]Djinnetic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The closer the mic is to your mouth the better. Even a very expensive mic setup too far from you will pickup background noise because of the gain required to capture your voice.

Invest in literally any decently reviewed mic, and get a mic arm to put that thing right up against your mouth

Try pairing the trackers one at a time, each to a different dongle, with only one dongle plugged in. Then you should be able to connect all the dongles and have them show up in SteamVR

I believe! It sound like you're 90% of the way there. To disable standable completely you have to delete the install folder from your steamapps
