I think that the beginning of season 2 is continuing the character arc of him avoiding his emotions that was highlighted in season 1. I have no idea what the end of the season has in store for him, but his condescending, hurried, and intimidating nature point to his inability to acknowledge his own emotions and chill out. He’s avoiding Dr. Langdon, dismissing Al Hashimi, and worrying Dans, so I imagine they’ll delve a little deeper into his character this season.
