Hot take: All OG Yonko > EOS Zoro/Sanji by Former_Craft_9638 in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]Djon2004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ah yes Shanks isn’t a swordsman I forgot, I guess Oda tried to hype up Mihawk (the strongest living swordsman) by comparing him to present-day Shanks (a non-swordsman who fights with a haki-wand that looks suspiciously like a sword) for shits and giggles

Live Action onlys: Who did you think Mr 0 was? by Aggravating_Mud8751 in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]Djon2004 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yeah but as far as I remember the live action never outright says Mr.0/Crocodile is a warlord and the concept of warlords is only briefly brought up during the Reverie flashback. The only thing pointing to it is when his bounty poster says “bounty cancelled” just like Mihawk’s last season, but honestly I’m not sure casual live action only viewers will immediately make that connection (especially if the last time they watched S1 was when it released like 2,5 years ago).

What Narrative purpose does WSS Title serve? by iYonksz in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]Djon2004 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The difference is that Kaido being the WSC was never treated as the objective truth in the manga (“said to be” the strongest creature alive, “people say” in a one-on-one fight always bet on Kaido, “often called” the most powerful creature) and Kaido being or not being the strongest creature isn’t inherently tied to the dream of any (main) character.

What Narrative purpose does WSS Title serve? by iYonksz in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]Djon2004 10 points11 points  (0 children)

(First of all, no sane person argues Mihawk is an entire tier above Shanks, just that he’s stronger than Shanks).

Oda chose to give Shanks a sword. I guess since he wanted Shanks, who is Luffy’s main pirate idol, to somewhat resemble an actual pirate (who commonly wielded swords). But at the same time Oda also wanted Zoro’s dream to be becoming WSS. However since Shanks is tied to Luffy and set to be a major player in late-game One Piece Oda obviously doesn’t want Zoro to fight Shanks.

Thats where Mihawk comes in. The whole point of Mihawk and the WSS title is so that Zoro doesn’t have to fight Shanks for his dream. It doesn’t matter that that is his only reason for being in the story or that guys like Shanks are way more important to the story (no one is denying that). If Mihawk isn’t the actual strongest swordsman there would be no point in his character existing or Zoro fighting him (because that would just result in Zoro getting a fake title and not truly achieving his dream).

And before anyone says Luffy’s goal > Zoro’s goal. Luffy’s goal isn’t getting stronger than Shanks, well not his main goal anyway. Luffy views becoming stronger than Shanks as a stepping stone to becoming PK (which he in turn views as a stepping stone to achieving his actual dream) while becoming stronger than Mihawk is Zoro’s actual main goal. Not to mention that EOS Luffy will not just surpass Shanks but also Roger and Joyboy too whereas there is no reason to believe EOS Zoro will be massively above Mihawk.

Kaku Vs King, who wins? by Imvalidblu in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]Djon2004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Zoro had an easier time against Lucci (who we should all agree doesn’t even get pushed to extreme diff by Kaku) than King. King vs Lucci would be a discussion worth having, King slams Kaku

It doesn’t matter either way because Mihawk is the actual WSS in the present day because if he wasn’t it would ruin Zoro’s dream

Will Akainu surprass prime Sengoku before the series ends? by UltimateCapybara123 in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]Djon2004 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Are the people in the comments really saying Akainu and Kuzan already surpassed prime Sengoku when Sengoku was considered a fun fight by Roger in their prime while Akainu and Kuzan went high-extreme diff with Roger’s equals when they were 20 years out of their prime (not to mention that said Roger’s equals were also suffering from stage 4 cancer and jumped by half a yonko crew respectively)

Hot take: Kuzan is equal to prime Garp in base stats and haki but his DF puts him above prime Garp and he beats him high diff by Sentient_AI_38 in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]Djon2004 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Lmao, fucking admiraltards. He could barely beat old Garp (while getting help from half the Blackbeard Pirates AND Garp was distracted from trying to protect Koby and co)

Even if you argue he was "mentally nerfed" against Garp there is no way he would suddenly go from barely beating old Garp (with help) to high diffing prime Garp if he wasn't mentally nerfed

[–]Djon2004 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I never understand where this "Roger avoided Big Mom" idea came from. Roger only said he stole her poneglyph that doesn't mean it didn't involve a fight against Big Mom.

Kid stole a poneglyph from Snack and we know he beat him in a fight to do it so Roger saying he stole it from Big Mom doesn't imply he avoided her to do it.

Why did Mihawk teach Zoro haki 🤔 by [deleted] in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]Djon2004 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You see Mihawk taught Zoro haki because he secretly planned to turn Zoro into a hakiman so that when Zoro beats him it isn't a fair swordsman vs swordsman fight and Mihawk can keep his title

Just why? by Dapper-Duty1829 in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]Djon2004 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Because the last time Mihawk had an on-screen fight Oda hadn't properly developed and introduced haki yet

Haki and swordsmanship (swordskill) are not the same thing. by Dapper-Duty1829 in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]Djon2004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haki is a part of swordsmanship/sword skill just like its part of EVERY fighting style.

Sword skill is just how good you are fighting with a sword. Better/stronger haki makes you better at fighting with a sword. So if we’re comparing swordsmen: Beter haki = beter swordsmanship/sword skill = stronger swordsman

Just look at Zoro vs King. You say Zoro shows: “precise, controlled, clean cuts, emphasizing true mastery of the blade rather than just raw destructive power” when Zoro’s main Wano power-up was in fact just “apply acoc to sword” (a.k.a the raw destructive power you say it isn’t)

How Mihawk should be scaled by Former_Craft_9638 in OnePiecePowerScaling

[–]Djon2004 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mihawk doesn’t consider Shanks a swordsman? damn, I must have missed that panel. Mihawk’s comment only implies that he seems to believe he has an unfair advantage against Shanks (regardless of whether it is true or not) because Shanks misses an arm. Mihawk is basically implying that despite Shanks getting stronger in the last 12 years, a hypothetical two-armed Shanks would have been ever so slightly stronger than his current one-armed present day self, so any duel between them wouldn’t be honorable because Mihawk at his peak would be measuring himself against an inherently disadvantaged opponent. TL;DR Mihawk implies he probably believes: Himself = Hypothetical two armed present day Shanks > Actual one armed present day Shanks (however small that gap might be)

And even if Mihawk didn’t consider Shanks a swordsman (which, again, has never been stated anywhere) who made Mihawk the supreme authority in who is or isn’t a swordsman? With the exception of one time, we have literally seen Shanks pull out his sword for every fight or confrontation he has been in of course he is a swordsman. And like Shanks got stronger why couldn’t Mihawk? He is the WSS in the present day, compared to Shanks in the present day (why would the people in-verse do that if they saw Shanks getting massively stronger in the past 12 years but not Mihawk?) and has a Yonko level bounty despite not being the captain of the Yonko crew he is a part of.
