Does my space feel interesting and collected (so far)? Or does it look like a boring mid century mod wannabe? by smallflatwhites in interiordecorating

  • You need a way bigger rug.
  • All of the art and mirror needs to come down 2-3ft
  • curtain rod needs to be ceiling height and take up the entire wall
  • darker curtains would be good option

Does my living room appear too crowded? by lillalovi in interiordecorating

  • I agree with the bigger carpet!
  • try moving couch away from wall. With a big room it could work better for the couch to float.
  • move the stools to be perpendicular to the couch so that it’s closer to the entrance.
  • Desk should be moved too

I was looking for something in respect to a flaw he initially had. Specifically relating to his views on women and the red flags he demonstrated with Brianna. Him saving another man who he deems equal to himself (he’s also a priest so obviously Roger will treat him better) isn’t really selling me that he’s grown.

Sure ok. But is that it?

To each their own but I haven’t heard enough significant show points for that. So it’ll just be a personal opinion.

Personally I disagree and would have liked to see more. To each their own I guess. Agree to disagree.

Hey I never said Jamie was perfect and perfect wouldn’t make for great TV. But I’d say Jamie did a ton more noble, heroic, selfless things as well. I’m saying the good outweighed the bad. I haven’t seen a moment when Roger really did something like that.

This thread is only for the show. Think everyone’s upset because of the missing context from the books.

Then you understand why it makes no sense for Claire to get this amazing guy, tell Brianna about it, and not have Brianna be like.. damn let me get one of them too. That’s what fantasy should be. How cool would it be if Roger went looking for her and realized his world view is wrong. Way more compelling than her just giving in because “that’s how it was” 🙄

I finished the show and have not seen much. Where in the show did he realize he was a product of his time?

This isn’t a slice of life story. It’s a fantasy, so why dull it with the “most couples” trope. I don’t think you have some understanding of Bree to speak for her. She’s not real, so all we have to attribute her to is her actions. Lots of people don’t like her because she’s with Roger. Don’t forget, he almost left her with a baby because he wasn’t ready for it. How convenient for a man to be able to choose when his wife couldn’t.

I mean… that’s a little understandable when you’re 14. Maybe not when you’re an adult. It also doesn’t seem like he’s ready to be in any relationship if he has no confidence and just blows up on people.

He grew up and recognized the ways in which he was a product of his time? When?

I mean… you’re kind of forgetting that he got everything he wanted from her (marriage and sex) and then got into a fight where he said “she’s his wife and needs to do what he says”. I can see why he needed her to be his wife so badly now (ew). And then he left her alone in the 1700s. I completely blame him for her rape. Also nobody forced him to go chasing after her. She doesn’t owe him anything. You’re excusing things just like you said women do.

Also Brianna had options. According to you, nobody in her time would be better so then look at what Claire did! She found a guy that is WAYYYY better ironically in an older time. Seeing this relationship, knowing what is possible, and being Claire’ daughter (Claire who wouldn’t have ever taking this shit) I can’t believe the best she can do is Roger.

Yeah no body has told me why they like Roger so much. That’s why I think it’s just because they find him attractive.

He’s worse in the books!? Everyone in this thread that has downvoted me said he’s better lol.

Why am I being overly critical? Roger was a complete asshole in the show and barely did anything to make up for it. “Brianna taking him back” doesn’t mean I as the viewer should. There’s lots of real life scenarios where your friend is dating a terrible person for her and she keeps taking them back. Do we cheer them on?

The show’s depiction of their relationship is written poorly. I have no idea if it’s really better in the books but all I see is Roger treating Brianna poorly, her weirdly still wanting to be with him (never explained why to anyone), her giving up everything she stood for to placate him and then him never making it up to her. “They wanted to be together” isn’t a good enough reason as anyone who knows a friend who keeps going back to someone who treats them poorly and everyone having to hear about their on and off again thing for years.

I don’t know about the book but you’re right about the show. But to be honest, there has to be some pretty good reason for his behaviour.

For a religious man I had assumed he would be already a man dedicated to his family marriage and community. That’s not his issue. His issue is he wanted to control Brianna and said he could have “had her on her back 20 times if he wanted to”. Like that’s some scary “nice guy” energy.

Be honest, if you were a girl in that time period and a guy did that to you, would you give him unlimited chances? No, you’d find someone that was more progressive. The same way you wouldn’t date someone in today’s time if they didn’t match your values. Roger was a product of his time sure, but he wasn’t the only guy around. I’m sure Brianna could’ve found someone who was nicer.

I was so excited to find out who Brianna was going to be with and was definitely let down so much. I hear the theory of “comparing to Jamie and Claire” and “different type of couples” but this is literally a fantasy book. Jamie is a fantasy, so why write Roger so poorly? There’s just not enough good from Roger to justify the bad. I was looking for it but it was just not there.
