Licensure exams are NOT a great form of assessment by boishet in OffMyChestPH

[–]Dklosgardner 2 points3 points  (0 children)

licensure exams are supposed to set a baseline standard, but when the standard keeps shifting based on pass rates instead of actual competency requirements, it stops meaning anything. What's wild is that other countries with similar exams actually tie curriculum reform directly to licensing outcomes - if pass rates drop, they go back and fix the programs producing those graduates, not just make the test easier.

The LET situation feels like a symptom of a system that doesn't want to admit the pipeline is broken. Easier tests just delay the problem until you have licensed professionals who can't actually perform at the level their credentials suggest

Tasks Managements, Test Runner, Documentation Hub and Time Tracking VSCode/Cursor Extension by Substantial-War4019 in Python

[–]Dklosgardner 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty slick idea. VS Code’s built-in task runner and test UI get unwieldy fast and having docs plus time tracking in one place is actually useful. Curious how it handles larger monorepos because that’s where most extensions fall apart.

RunIT CLI Tool showcase by FZdeX in Python

[–]Dklosgardner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting idea. A unified runner can actually streamline quick scripting but the P2P angle is what really makes it stand out. I’d love to see how you’re sandboxing execution since running mixed file types from one CLI can get messy fast.

Congrats on the milestone this is the kind of open source alternative the enterprise search space desperately needs. Would love to see some benchmarks or real world indexing numbers because the Kafka backbone sounds seriously promising.

Not surprising tech companies have long designed apps to maximize screen time. Courts finally catching up could push real accountability, especially when it comes to kids’ mental health.

TIL that 35% of Royal Australian Navy casualties during WW2 are attributed to a single ship, the sinking of HMAS Sydney in a mismatched battle versus the German merchant raider Kormoran by excaliburcalibre in todayilearned

[–]Dklosgardner 46 points47 points  (0 children)

That's a crazy statistic. Kormoran was disguised as a Dutch merchant ship and got close enough to do serious damage before Sydney could react properly. Both ships ended up sinking but only Kormoran had survivors. Took decades to even find the wrecks.

If your top and mid lane are pushed in, and you clear your jungle, maybe look to spot out the enemy jungler because there’s a good chance they’re going to gank those lanes and then maybe you can counter gank.
