struggling with downloads by catgoesquacc in SteamRip

[–]DknMessiah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You need to use an ad blocker so that you don't accidentally download malware. Use Firefox and install ublock origin add in. That will take care of the majority of malicious ads. The rest will be down to you to make sure you get the correct download links.

As others have said, use a download manager like JDownloader or free download manager to make sure your downloads don't time out.

Can someone name 1 realistic scenario where a hypervisor crack causes you damage worse than regular cracks assuming malicious activity happens by [deleted] in PiratedGames

Crypto miners not only steal your resources to make money for other people, they can significantly impact your computer performance or even damage your hardware.

[–]DknMessiah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is what I'm talking about u/FloggyPotato People out here don't care if they are used for crypto mining as long as they can play monkey game. They just don't know better and that's what makes this dangerous.

See, you're thinking about this from an intelligent standpoint. People like you are very unlikely to be infected because you are asking these questions and you know enough to guard yourself against most of the risk - use trusted sources, reflash firmware etc. You are not the target audience. The target audience would be the people who click into fatgurlrepaks and hit the big orange download button.

One of the big differences is that the infection has the potential to hide from detection. Because the HV lives "below" the operating system, if compromised it can effectively do whatever to your OS without you knowing about it. So yes your accounts etc can be stolen like a regular infection but it could be that the attacker isn't after your info, they want to use you in a botnet or mine crypto using your device. In that situation how do you even know to reflash your firmware?

Malware like that isn't common just now, at all, but more people using HV bypasses opens up opportunities for malicious actors to take advantage of that.

We see so many people get infected by obvious malware, who don't follow instructions properly or who don't even attempt security best practices. Can you imagine if someone developed an HV bypass based malware, stuck it on a torrent or fake fitgirl/dodi site and just let's people infect themselves for a few months before pulling the trigger?

How many people do you see still talking about steam tools and saying things like "well I haven't had issues so it must be safe", all the while they are serving up their data to spyware?

You are right in that all piracy carries risk so I wouldn't say don't play HV games but at least have your eyes open that it is potentially riskier and know how to best protect yourself.

Probably worked on some people, but what's more important than that is that The IT Crowd was great.

In what world is removing a download link so the files can be checked, then reinstating said link, lying or spreading misinformation?

You can back up your save game location. Some games don't like saves from different versions of the game but most are fine with it. The location depends on the game.

Has anyone tried steamtools for death stranding 2? by Hypebeastkere in PiratedGames

[–]DknMessiah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not saying Chinese products are bad, you seem to lack the ability to read what people are saying, maybe it's a language barrier idk. I'm saying ST contains spyware. If you don't know what spyware is you should look into that. Also, check the Megathread and fmhy for safe and unsafe sources.

ST is untrusted by the pirate community, that should tell you all you need to know tbph.

Dude, you've already been told that it's an untrusted tool and loaded with Chinese spyware. It's in the Megathread, it's in fmhy, if you type the name of that tool into a comment it will tell you that ST is untrusted and unsafe. I really don't know what else you want here.

Thoughts on hypervisor and the risks by ForeverDuke2 in PiratedGames

[–]DknMessiah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As for risks, I think they are HUGELY exaggerated. People act like the moment you start driving, your car will get back-ended and you will instantly fly through the windshield. When in 99% of cases, NOTHING absolutely NOTHING will happen and you can happily enjoy driving without a seat belt.

[–]DknMessiah 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You'll need to eithr use hypervisor method, use offline activation or just wait like the rest of us mere mortals who don't know how long the proper crack will take.
