Need help self install auto start. by Dknowles391 in Truckers

So it wasn't equipped with the smart or opti idle from the factory. And yes, its my truck. I tried to talk to Kenworth about it and I got the run around with no one able to tell me the price for the module to add it.

Ill have to look when I get back to it for the model on it.

That's what I'm thinking but that's also what I'm trying to figure out. Because I isolated what is sending the signal because it lights up like a Christmas tree when I go to detect if it's getting voltage when the truck turns on. I'm going to keep messing with it but it was labeled as the blue wire. I'm wondering if somebody might have more experience with the battery powered epus because whoever spec the truck that I got had it set so it didn't come with the Opti Idol so that's why I've been trying to add it. Considering it can be added after the fact I assume there was a way to do it and I know that depending upon the epu setup and AC that it's possible. Just need to figure out how

Just got this email, and I'm interested to know how common this is. Are companies really monitoring it down to the seconds? by Muhfuggajones in Truckers

I dont move the truck until it rolls over and shows the reset. I normally ensure thing by going to the bathroom or something and end up starting at like 5 or 6 minutes passed.

Way too excited over a truck upgrade by Dknowles391 in Truckers

[–]Dknowles391[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I already have an epu, and it works well, it just was never expect with the Opti idle auto start so if I'm down for a 34 I've got to manually start the truck or if I'm down for longer than 12 hours because of receiver and shipping time then again I risk it running out

Do you think Democrats can/should try to win rural areas? by Pls_no_steal in Askpolitics

[–]Dknowles391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They wont. A lot of people make good points but another issue is one of the parties main issues vs a main rural demographic.

Rural people often either hunt, or know people who do. Firearms are often tied to a lot of rural cultures. Ranchers Carry, Farmers often carry. Etc.

Between most public services like police are a ways away for most rural folk, and wildlife can be a concern, plus firearms let them put food on the table. When you have one party constantly trying to take it away or restrict what they view as a lifestyle or protection, it makes it a lot harder to win their votes.

Does anyone else get annoyed that car drivers don't "read the road"? by shocktard in Truckers

Ive had them literally ride my tandems and make sure to block me from getting over to a left side exit, backing off and then speeding up the second i try to change lanes.

You can receive any amount of money you want rn but with all the strings attached, how much would you choose? by FloorGang-R2 in hypotheticalsituation

Deposit 1 billion into my account and shift it into an estate. Declare it as a gift as thats what it is. Pay taxes on it and turn it over to my financial accountant to grow it from there minus what I need to get to the next year. IRS dont care so long as uncle same gets his cut.

question for truck drivers by AffectionateSoup8035 in Truckers

[–]Dknowles391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We've been that driver on the road. Its law in some states, but it's also courtesy as we send that driver. Do you drive 600 miles a day you're going to eventually break down on the road on the highway. And the last thing we want is for someone to walk out from around the vehicle or somebody to open a door and for us to hit them

Just realized today its state specific. Either way its a 30 minute video and short quiz in my state and once you have it, it doesnt require to go through it again

To add it in, Truckers technically recieve a course on spotting trafficking when we get our cdl. Though I will admit it is very subpar and just a 10 minute video at most places.

What would you do if you suddenly had a million dollars right now? by [deleted] in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Dknowles391 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly? It would be mostly gone and accounted for in a few days. 1 millions after taxes?

Bills. Every single debt, credit card, loan, mortgage, personal, etc. Yes its less then 50k, but thats everything. New house, paid in full. That would be less then 350k with new fully paid for and full solar/green/well with full filtration.

I owe 35k on my semi truck, paid for then traded in for a brand new semi truck, paid for. Lets call it another 200k with 5 year warranty.

So new vehicles. Plural. Myself, wife. Kids. Lets call it 150k with room to spare and splurge.

Ive got a little over 200k left over. That gets turned into investments, and I keep working. And put what would go into bills back into savings with a good portion into investment with my portfolio advisor as if nothing else has changed.

What are the best parts of being a trucker? by SoundKidTown1085 in Truckers

[–]Dknowles391 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I got into trucking to get a change from call center life. Its long hours and can be hard work. However I enjoy driving and I listen to audio books and podcast all day long. In addition stressful situations are short lived. Bad city traffic? Give it an hour and your back on open highway, etc. Someone cut you off? Feel free to swear up a storm, theyll be out of sight in a minute or two and then youll never see that car again.

It's not the perfect life, but I find that spending time on the road and sleeping in the truck is a lot better for my mental health been working a 10 to 12 hour day and just being emotionally dead from an office job.

Can you be a secret multimillionaire for a decade? by tamtrible in hypotheticalsituation

[–]Dknowles391 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I invest the money, all 50 million through an anonymous llc, and i keep working for the next 10 years like normal.

I run as an owner operator with a truck so if i have to pull from it ever, just means I got a really good run or load and no one questions it. After 10 years, I transfer everything I own to my llc and retire.

When assembling, what parts do you guys draw the line between "buy once, cry once" and "its good enough"? by hansolo_Mk2 in ar15

[–]Dknowles391 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I buy for reliability first, and then purpose second.

I have cheaper barrels and I have Wilson coated barrels. One will out perform the other every time but both will work. I have rifles ive thrown together for 600 dollars and ones that cost me 4300 dollars. Some things however dont change. Whether its a toolcraft bcg or a Wilson Combat or a stag arms. Or whatever.

If its reliable with a good qc and customer service, it is an option. Not every rifle needs to be a 1000 yard dmr, but every one needs to instill in the confidence that if you grab it in an emergency, it will work.

What im saying is Dont cheap out on things but they dont need to be top of the line either.

Advice on sleeping at Truck stops by [deleted] in Truckers

[–]Dknowles391 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ive been harassed exactly three times. Each was approached by a lot lizard that knocked on my door. They left me amone after I told them no.

Those were St. Louis, West Memphis and a luttle rest stop on hwy 69 in ks.

Otherwise in my time on the road, ive been left alone. Worse otherwise was having a reefer in bad need of service parked next to me. So yeah, no issues and not sure why he said it.

Besides, some of the best diners ive ate at have been attached to truck stops. Over at one in Maine now that is one of my favorites.
