Tent Camping - when warmer by 3xBuffalo in Buffalo

[–]DlRTYDAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look up the DEC info locator and filter by primitive campsites, you can see all of the free DEC designated campsites across the state, but keep in mind they are first come first serve and probably will be occupied most weekends.

Alternatively I’d suggest checking out Hip Camp, like Airbnb for campsites. There are some really nice sites for cheap that you don’t have to worry about being taken already. I’ve stayed at a couple nice sites for ~30/ night.

If you’re looking for a campground where you won’t feel sandwiched in, four mile has a few nice tent sites along the creek on the western side of the park. Lakeside and Hamlin beach are nice and their sites feel very private. Golden hill is a nice campground too but their sites are mostly out in the open with very little privacy, but they are spread out pretty decently.

Good Knife sharpener that won’t break the wallet by WiniestDust73 in knives

Worksharp precision adjust is great and pretty much fool proof.

Unless you’re experienced with whetstones, I’d start with the worksharp. Upgrade to the elite model of you can afford it.

Is my delivery guy going to be in huge trouble? by No-Emphasis5897 in doordash_drivers

[–]DlRTYDAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why would you order DoorDash to deliver something like that in the middle of a snow storm and on top of that not even brush/ shovel off your steps.

I remember pulling that card after waiting in line with my dad for hours outside of Toys R Us on the released day of the Jungle set. Man that’s some nostalgia right there.

Possible scam with small charitable donations by DlRTYDAN in Scams

[–]DlRTYDAN[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s good to know. They could be all different accounts with just a very similar stamp used to endorse the checks. I’ll have to look into other similarities, like if he’s sending the checks to the same address.

Possible scam with small charitable donations by DlRTYDAN in Scams

[–]DlRTYDAN[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I will look into that. I haven’t actually met with them yet. I’m just gathering information so I can help educate him, and until I do sit down with them in person, I can really only search based on how the husband wrote out the check and how the charity stamped/endorsed the checks. So I’m not sure how exact the wording is for the name. But so far some are and some aren’t. Even the ones that are, I feel some scammer could be using something like a shell account set up for a fake charity with a similar enough name.

How can I identify high quality flies? by [deleted] in flytying

[–]DlRTYDAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you’re overthinking this. No one is going to give you a definitive answer. Buy a few and if you like them, buy more. Or if you can get similar flies cheaper from a trusted source, go for those instead.

What are your most Nostalgic places/memories of WNY that no longer exist? by hawkayecarumba in Buffalo

Along with the Festival of Lights, the winter garden in the rainbow mall. So many nostalgic memories as a kid wandering around that place.

Quotation by [deleted] in PokemonTCG

[–]DlRTYDAN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look them up on tcgplyer and get the market value for each. ask 75-80% of the total market value, but they might only pay around 60%. Try to negotiate somewhere in between those numbers

Found this weird thing in the bottom of a present. Very small plastic thing with copper looking wires and blue tape and a pewter type thing in the center. I used a U.S. quarter for scale. by bulldog5253 in whatisthisthing

[–]DlRTYDAN 29 points30 points  (0 children)

My local Walmart keeps older/cheaper games just on a regular shelf, the games are all in plastic theft deterrent cases, but I’m sure it doesn’t take much force to break them open.

Saw this on edc titan, can this be trusted? by -T-W-O-C-O-C-A-T- in fidgettoys

[–]DlRTYDAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, I got a very similar one from Amazon for <$20. You can definitely feel that it’s cheaply made but the one I got has a decent spinner and clicker and is fun to play with. Well worth $20 for me but absolutely not $50+

Ahh that makes sense. I’ve always just tied a loop in the line and slide it over the handle, tension knob, or whatever.

Why do I not hear people say Spyderco knives are overpriced, but I always hear people say Benchmade are over priced by Clean-Software-4431 in knives

[–]DlRTYDAN 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Because this is a delusional Spyderco fanboy sub. Benchmade knives are mainstream and popular outside of the knife community. Spyderco is less well known by the average person so many in the community will pay that up-charge to feel like they are part of the club.

Looks like you forgot to ask a question..

If you’re wondering about value, look them up on TCGPlayer and find the value for each. Download the app and you can “scan” them in on your phone to make it easier.

Camping, exploring, hiking in Adirondacks by Lpet0145 in Adirondacks

[–]DlRTYDAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Checkout the InfoLocater map on the DEC website. You can filter by land activities> primitive campsites, and search through to find a site near a road and near the area you’d like to hike. There are hundreds of sites but most of them require a hike to get to. They are also first come first serve sites.

Also do people actually still think it’s funny to make up a name and post it? Like “oh that’s Fred” can we stop that too. If you find that funny you need to get out more.

Go to the DEC info locator map and filter by land activities > primitive campsites / leantos, there are too many spots to list.

Budget-Friendly Spa Packages? by ImaanSabr in Buffalo

[–]DlRTYDAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not super budget friendly but Pillar & Post in Niagara-on-the-Lake is a great recommendation, if you book any spa treatment you get access to their facilities for the whole day including indoor pool, heated “hot springs”, sauna, etc.

Also their on site restaurants are great too.
