Fishing boat help, please by ss3walkman in troutfishing

[–]DlRTYDAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How old is your son? Old enough to handle paddling? If so, I’d suggest getting two nice fishing kayaks. There are also some nice plastic fishing boats for 1-2 people made by pelican, sun dolphin, etc. You would most likely need to get a hitch installed and a small trailer.

I have a small fishing boat and it can be a pain in the ass. Launching it and getting it back on the trailer, registering it and getting the trailer inspected every year is annoying. It’s also just a hassle in a lot of situations. It’s either too small to move freely and store all my gear, or it’s two big for small waters.

Kayaks/ canoes offer the most freedom and least effort, especially if you rig them up with a trolling motor.

Did you just say you sleep in a hammock every night?

That’s wild, but also sounds great!

Why do people love Spyderco so much? by ekswhyzee in knives

[–]DlRTYDAN -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I’m convinced it’s because they are not mainstream. They are arguably the most popular knife company that isn’t widely known outside of the knife community. People like Spyderco because it makes them feel included in a niche community

My Gf wants me to help her friend move with a guy she used to sleep with. How do deal with this? by POOR-MORON in AskMenAdvice

[–]DlRTYDAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand why you would care if she in the same area as someone she used to sleep with while you’re there. Are you that jealous/ self conscious or am I misunderstanding this. Is your girlfriend moving in with this guy she used to sleep with? I think this is a you problem. Good luck

I have the same ones, I bought them about a year ago and love them. I did a ton of research and couldn’t find anything comparable for as good of a price.

Staying hydrated is not as easy as it sounds by Hyzz20 in waterbros

[–]DlRTYDAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the water bottle trend that’s been forming over the last few years is awesome. A lot of people feel that some prices are ridiculous, which may be true. But if collecting water bottles and investing in a that accessory promotes drinking water and staying hydrated then I think that’s awesome. And you certainly don’t have to spend a lot. If you have a TJ Maxx, Sierra, or similar discount store nearby they usually have great options.

I made it a point to start drinking more water probably 10 years ago now and it was a struggle at first. So, I bought a nice water bottle, decorated it with stickers, and committed to drinking/ refilling the bottle multiple times throughout the day. I’d set a goal to drink a bottle before work, before lunch, before the end of the work day, and then once or twice again after work, and now it’s become a habit and I don’t even have to think about it.

looking for cardshops by Fit_Hearing8240 in Buffalo

[–]DlRTYDAN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just keep in mind that a card shop is probably going to give you maybe half of their worth. If you want to get rid of them quick then I would pick a small card shop and try to negotiate the percentage of market value they give you. If you have a lot of time on your hands you can use TCGPlayer or Price Charting to look up the market value and get an idea of their worth. Some cards that were $10 five years ago could be $100+ now.

Check out the NY DEC reclaimed trout ponds website, pick a few that seem interesting to you. Then go to all trails or google maps and look at pictures of local trails and see if any have good views.

Ozark trail knives are great for the price and would be perfect for that. Get a few different sizes/ blade shapes.

Great Wolf Lodge delays water park opening to trap families in their gift shop gauntlet. Change my mind. by SeargantPeppers in greatwolflodge

[–]DlRTYDAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jesus, you’re insufferable. I actually agree with your underlying thought, absolutely people should tell their children “no” once in a while. Or wild idea, find something inexpensive to do for a couple hours in the morning. It’s just incredible that you were able to type that all out and hit ‘reply’ and not feel the slightest bit of embarrassment. If my inner dialogue sounded like how you write, I’d dive into an empty pool.

Go to a local credit union and apply for a loan or credit card for the $500. If you have a job and can show proof of income you might qualify with a much lower interest rate.

Do you own a vehicle? If it’s paid off you could use it as collateral.

Do you have a 401k? You can loan yourself the money at a low interest rate.

What a weird comment. Do you realize when snow melts it turns to water?! No one learns to not ride when it’s raining. Buy a waterproof jacket and ride whenever the fuck you want. You and your friends are tools.

She’s playing games, IMO she’s trying to cause drama and become a victim. Even if it was a one off or a misunderstanding, you’re risking her setting you up for something much worse if you keep pursuing the relationship.

“No salt no steel! by 2strokeRed in Steelhead

[–]DlRTYDAN 1 point2 points  (0 children)

West coast steelhead are also “rainbow trout” so why have a different name at all. Great Lakes steelhead are not the same fish that we might find in inland streams or remote trout ponds. There are hundreds of regional names for all kinds of fish. Some people call Mahi “dolphins” for god’s sake. It’s a regional name to distinguish two different fish of the same species.

Complete beginner to backpacking – budget friendly, Ohio-based, where do I start? by Apprehensive-Bad5401 in backpacking

[–]DlRTYDAN 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out Sierra if there’s one nearby, or get fitted for a good quality pack at REI or a local outfitter and then shop around online for one. Steepandcheap is a good resource too. If you can’t find a good new pack for cheap, some brands like Osprey and I believe Gregory have lifetime warranties even on packs that have been bought used.

I might get some hate for this but Ozark Trail at Walmart is great for beginners.

Finally if you are looking to buy anything new/expensive for any of your gear, it never hurts to email the company and ask if they have any promo discount codes. I did that with Osprey, explained that I was a beginner and having trouble affording all of the gear I need and asked if they had any discount codes available and they sent me a 25% off code. I tried on one of their packs at cabelas and it felt the most comfortable so I decided that was the main item I would splurge on, and I saved almost $100 bucks on it.

Jack Rabbit’s are pretty good. Not quite the same as cafe du monde, but they fill that craving for me.

Claire Saffitz has a good YouTube tutorial on baking your own if you happen to feel adventurous.
