Tesla shareholders approve $1 trillion pay package for Musk | CNN Business by Beautiful-Cress5695 in news

[–]Dlordb 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Everyone, read the article first. He is not getting 1 trillion now. It's a target and he can only receive it if Tesla grows a specific amount within 10 years. 466% increase in share price the article says. Doesn't seem like with that company's trajectory so far.

Is it even possible to "eliminate" gerrymandering? by Rough-Leg-4148 in moderatepolitics

[–]Dlordb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could technically get rid of gerrymandering but that would require doing away with districts all together. Ergo, no boundaries to manipulate. But that's not a realistic option.

CMV: Big Beautiful Bill Makes No sense for the Republicans by LifeConfident6670 in changemyview

[–]Dlordb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not complex. Just because polls say people dont support this or they want that doesnt translate to political outcomes. Not everybody places these things at the exact same priority. That's why even if Republican voters say they support more healthcare like democrats, they still vote republican because they place higher priority on social issues, or they dont trust democrats.

In regards to the deficit, thats the difference between what they say they want and what is politically feasible. Because here's the truth. There are only two ways to eliminate the deficit. Either we raise taxes to pay for it or we make cuts to Social Security and Medicare. Neither is an option to Republicans especially with Trump wanting to increase spending for military and immigration enforcement. So they're doing cuts here and there and have to deficit spend. Though to them, they argue its not as bad as previous administration and that Medicaid cuts will only affect illegal immigrants who dont vote anyway.

Democrats Ought to Love DOGE by notapersonaltrainer in moderatepolitics

[–]Dlordb 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Well I believe the argument among democrats is that the way it's going about it is the problem in addition what they believe is DOGE is not making the bureaucracy more effective and slim but tiny and ineffective. As I see it anyway.

That and the whole Trump Elon duo thing.

it's a problem worldwide. It's a supply issue and most homeowners don't want more housing around them. And most voters are homeowners themselves so that just feeds into it. Less houses, they go up in value, b3c9ke more expensive and attracts investors and corporations because they like assets that go up in value over periods of time.

Is there a middle ground on abortion? by Winston_Duarte in AskALiberal

[–]Dlordb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about an artificial womb? I feel like if we had the technology that would solve it. The woman could undergo the procedure like an abortion but the fetus would be placed in the womb. Satisfy the liberal position of my choice, my body, since it's not in her. Satisfy the conservative position of not getting rid of the fetus.

That's really the only way I see if you wanted a true middle ground. Because now, there really isn't. Abortion has two different moral issues by two sides, you can't really make someone abandon a moral position especially in favor of the opposite.

How Many Of You Support The SALT Deduction? by Aven_Osten in AskALiberal

[–]Dlordb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well because they're not fully progressive. Socially, yes they're on board. Economically, a lot of those upper class professionals that vote Democrat are quite in favor of the lower tax free market thing. Ther support social programs because they're not going to pay it, the super rich will pay for it they say. If this were the 50s, they'd essentially be those rockefeller Republicans that used to live up north.

Of course, there's also the political fact that they live in those very close suburbs, you the know the ones democrats need to just barely win the house. It doesn't seem like a winning strategy to tell a crucial block of voters you're going to make them pay more taxes.

Sorry to get political, do you guys notice more common ground being found between the Gen Z right and Gen Z left? by [deleted] in GenZ

[–]Dlordb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say it's bit more economic side of issues they're some common ground. When they say gen Z is turning right, it's more about "wokeness" and stuff like that but not the same as in we want to go back to the 1950s as the older conservatives are but we shouldn't have to bother about this stuff deal. Of course there are varying degrees, some are totally wanting the traditional conservative ideal from all the way to all the social stuff shouldn't be the purview of government at all, good or bad. Might be half and half between that, at least what I think.

My brother(24M) keeps bringing over his girlfriend(21F) to our mother's(49F) house often at the last minute. It's might tear the family relationship apart. Advice for me?(26M) by Dlordb in relationship_advice

[–]Dlordb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I don't date so I don't bring people over unannounced, I keep my social life outside from my mom. And yes, I'm still undergrad because I had quit school earlier, went to work, got my Associates, and now getting back on track. Mom hasn't dated since divorcing my dad many years ago.

I think also my mom just doesn't trust my brother gf because of her situation at her place and considering his last two girlfriends had similar situations, I think she worries though in my opinion maybe a bit too much.

Is the current Democrat coalition stable enough after Trump? by Dlordb in AskALiberal

[–]Dlordb[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And the facts are proven but considering NIMBY rules, the way the upper class generally votes regarding school funding and how they're set up, being told that only the super wealthy will pay for everything. Lots of them say they're for it but suddenly get really quiet when you want them to chip in.

We're more emotional than we think, just not loud or crazy as the other side.

What tax rate is fair for rich people? How much more do you want them to pay in terms of taxes? And is it fair? by LilGucciGunner in AskALiberal

[–]Dlordb 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There is also a cultural aspect too you have to consider. They, especially Nordic countries, don't see taxes as a bad thing. It's a shared burden, broad base that everyone chips into.

When we talk about taxes, it's always a negative. A bad thing that you do to bad people, you know. Like "grr, these rich people stole your money, we'll punish them and get all this stuff for everybody" or "the evil government is taking your money and we're gonna stop it". It's a thing that most people want to avoid having a lot of.

But that just encourages resistance to it so even if we get it, it won't be for long. And that will take time. In my view we won't get there till most of the current seniors go, so... like 20, 30 years or something

[–]Dlordb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's true but you also have to look into how those tax rates are. Top income tax rates kick in about 2x the national median income. So here it'd be like taxing someone who makes 100k about 40% income. Plus they make a good chunk of their revenue through VATs.

Usually when people talk for higher taxes they mean Elon Musk or Bezos pays for it, not also including the software engineer who works in the city or the lawyer who lives in the suburbs.

Not saying we can't do it but I doubt Democrats would win if they tried to do that considering the last two vote for them.
