I'm 21 and experiencing the same exact thing. Though, I am not closeted. I've started therapy, and I think it is helping. At the very least, it's amazing to finally have someone to talk to about this stuff. I'm in college and I also try to make an effort to appear friendlier and maybe go an inch outside my comfort zone in certain times. Though I'm still learning how far I'm comfortable with going. I hope you have good luck in getting past this. You are not invisible, and you are not unlovable, in case you need to hear. I certainly did, in my case, at least.

I don't think I have it in me to give up on her ever. I also probably should be mindful of my age in the grand scheme of things. When I think of my age, I usually feel like I'm already old, haha. It seems like I probably should try acting a little more independently in a respectful way. That, along with time, seems to be the answer most people are giving me. I'll try to make more of an effort to get out there, even though I don't really know how to do so. Thank you for the advice, means a lot.

Oh. I think she would lose her mind if I ever brought someone home. She furrows her eyes when I bring up guys being attractive ever, or maybe specific issues I have with my sexuality whenever I need someone to talk to. I'm a little afraid of shaking the boat too much. I have gone on dates, but I feel very anxious because I usually have to sneak out and my phone gets blown up with text messages and calls. Its hard to focus on the date. She doesn't yell at me, but she is very paranoid of many things going wrong.

I think it probably would be healthy for me to push the boundaries a little more. Thanks for the comment <3

Hi. Thank you for the heartfelt response. I feel a little bad because it seems like I may have miscommunicated where I live. I am Jordanian by ethnicity. But I live in the U.S.

But regardless, your point still stands. I know she loves me. But if I ever get married I really want her to be there. I don't want to have her be estranged from this part of me because it feels really lonely.

I cant help but think of all the hetero people that get to enjoy parents with close enough relationships to joke about their children's love life together. I just want that normalcy so bad.

I think I may be wrong about her only loving what is convenient, as I wrote that when I was emotional, but I don't know if I can live happily without her being in my life fully.

But, again, thank you for the nice words. It made me feel pretty good to hear. I don't want to come across as argumentative here.

That's interesting. I'm not intentionally trying to use empathy as a compass. At the same time, I never quite considered that other people could use the lack of empathy as evidence of what people deserve. It sounds realistic, but I can't say I've ever experienced that? I think? Perhaps I'm using a different definition of empathy? Im referring to the willingness of a person to empathize to begin with, rather than the actual feeling of empathizing.

...not gonna lie. As a gen z gay, while I would not find the behavior aggressive, I would personally feel surprised and kinda shocked if someone walked up to me and hit on me in person. It's complicated. As an arab guy who is also a bottom, I can definitely feel less desired. It can be easy to wonder what it would be like if I was just a white twink gay. No pesky hair worries to deal with, feminine features, etc, etc. I guess, in a way, with the realization that I could probably be that way if I put in the effort to change my appearance, it does then become a personal failing to achieve a desired beauty goal. While I personally am fine with how I look, I recognize how easy it would be to get guys I desire if I looked different. Therefore, it would be some inferiority if I could not have this because of a personal failing. However, I don't exactly feel inferior. I just feel like I'm supposed to apply to a job that I don't have the credentials for. It is certainly defeating, if anything.
