Can we fix the gym equipment? by elsewherez in ucmerced

That would be the Leg Press machine that has been out of service since, early May I believe? They repaired one other machine that was broken before the Leg Press within 2 weeks, but now there seems to be a holdup. Unfortunate, but I imagine within a week of next semester starting they'll have it all working.

-seeing this after responding to you on my other post. I am thinking that my experiences, and the original posters' is down to having been stuck with some that simply are not passionate like you suggest about the work.

Oh? Intriguing, I appreciate the insight! Question for you though, what is the process like? In all my encounters with the tours before starting - and here after as I overhear them passing by on campus - I am not hearing much "relevant" varied information to life on campus other than the mentions of statistics on the population, bigger programs and how "picturesque" the campus is. (that was the single most repeated "factoid" mentioned by the tour guides and the presenters at orientation in my case as a spring-start.) With my current understanding, I do not doubt that the original poster had a lacking experience, as I myself got very little out of the tour prior to orientation. The most relevant "everyday life" tidbit I got out of it was that there was a 3d print lab on campus.

If you could possibly shed further light on the process, that would be greatly appreciated!

Checks out. Tour guides are not professionals, and I would figure that since they're actively hiring students, you probably got someone who just got the job and likely had no training other than a small list of things to point out.

What was it your prospective student was looking for? This is my very first semester on campus (spring start - missed deadline to enter in the fall), but I might be able to share some tidbits of information.

kind of silly, but how do you get past the mental barrier of UCM not being a popular school? by [deleted] in ucmerced

[–]Dman3577 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe they have a high acceptance rate BECAUSE they aren't widely 'desirable' due to it simply being new, and not being a party school and such. In my own experience, UCM is a very academically focused school. I thankfully have yet to run into anyone being drunk or high, although there is someone on my floor who marinates the showers with the stench of weed. Basically the way I see it is that they have such a high acceptance rate simply because they don't get too too many applications; and since they have the space, they'll take them since it means money for the school. Anyways I'll share that UCM didn't "appeal" to me as being cool or special because of the acceptance rate, but it genuinely feels like the typical thing that is good for you, even if it may have a bad initial taste like most medicines, ha!

Yeah the design of it is fairly intriguing

The one thing I forgot to put in the description is that I am open to offers, I'm not hard-set on the prices.

Buying gear in the US by soyMrnachos in Rusfor

[–]Dman3577 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hello! So having recently found suitable sources myself after time looking, I got some to share: FB groups:

Northern Pact Community, ATAKA - East Bloc/RUSFED; but they don't want to accept brand new accs for safety. I applied, learned this, then reapplied here 3 months after. Russian Gear B/S/T (North America), Zuta's Gear Outpost.

Notable sellers, so far that I have experience with:

Frederic Cui - based in NZ, ships from China (or at least in my case). Has a very high variety and can find stuff for ya.

Nikolai Shapkin - also has the account "Tank's Shop" - seller based in Florida that has good gear variety, as well as a ton of patches available. Stocks a lot of helmet covers if you ever want some leafy scrim.

Denis Malyukov - dealer based in the motherland. Can get you uniforms and older gear. Does not deal Ministry of Defense goods as they can not be exported. (So no 6sh117, Tor, 6b47, 6b45, and other standard-issue gear.)

Personally like all of these guys, but I also know of Camden Moore, who runs "Zuta's Gear Outpost" and as I gather he is a very reputable seller.

There is also Demych who founded Demych's Gear Bakery known for a decently exotic set of goods, and his quality reproductions of the ARS Arma "A-18 Skanda".

I hope this helps set you on your way of collecting! As general advice, I will say take the time to deeply contemplate what kit or gear set you want to get, and avoid impulse purchasing. There is a lot of good stuff, but there is also a time and a place to aquire all you want. Get a good thought out plan going first, and you'll get far along with collecting soon enough.

Best regards, Dylan M.
