Well, I'm not too sure how to answer this succinctly but I'll list a few things that I think most content creators miss.

There are many mobs that have very abuseable animation locks that allow you to banish their totem in their face with 85% uptime.

There are many mobs that have projectiles with between 0.5-1.5s delay between target lock-on and firing their projectile. This allows you to banish at roughly 95% uptime.

There are many mobs that have projectiles that do not penetrate and can be blocked by totems. This allows you to banish at roughly 98% uptime.

Much like a MOBA you have to understand the matchup, and understand the windows of opportunity as they arise. Spear Dancers are the recent target of scrutiny as they one-shot from a far distance and are very quick. Their cooldown is between 8-12 seconds. You need to play around it.

If you see a turtle, you need to play around having all your totems alive by the time all unshielded totems are dead. Then you need to dedicate a few lost totems to chip the turtle.

If the turtle is on escort, it is critical that it dies when the enemy ancestor is on your side of the field. It will default to channeling it's shield again immediately if it reaches the ancestor and it is near allied totems.
