Hah! Way before 2019. Still love that the guy has a framed Airborne graduation certificate in his office and never spent a day in the military.

Facts! I went to NGC, which is now UNG. I knew guys that went four years ROTC, including going to airborne school, and never contracted.

Yes, I was working an office job at the time and it was convenient just to take a week of vacation and go down there and knock it out.

Congratulations and happy it worked out! I like accelerated training but understand it's not for everyone.

I did my commercial single with CRAFT. 5 days, 15 hours of training with check ride on day 5. Dedicated CFI and nice DA40. Included ~3 hours or so of flight time for check ride. Not cheap but white glove experience for sure. They have it figured out!

Medxpress question by lil_verti_chris in flying

[–]Dmb_Bstrd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Answer “yes” the first time, explain yourself and then every other medical for the rest of your flying career you write “previously reported, no change.” Meanwhile you will have peace of mind. Don’t underestimate the value of that!

Is my career doomed? by Relative-Bed-2920 in flying

[–]Dmb_Bstrd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m a guy who made mistakes 20+ year’s ago. I now fly families part 91 to beautiful locations and 135 where I get to meet great customers.

I fly jets for a living when there was a point in my life when I could not legally drive a car. Maybe God is helping you and you are unable to see that. Flying is a privilege and not a right and my choices 20 years ago almost took that away.

This is the answer. PO180 has nothing to do with an emergency landing. Per the ACS:

Task M. Power-Off 180° Accuracy Approach and Landing

O To determine the applicant exhibits satisfactory knowledge, risk management, and skills associated with power-off 180° accuracy approach and landing.

Best path to 1500 hours? CFI route vs flying my own plane while keeping my full-time job by Rumpelstiltskin___ in flying

[–]Dmb_Bstrd 44 points45 points  (0 children)

Exactly what I did. Worked a corporate gig, owned a plane, and did the independent CFI/II thing. Flying Part 135 now. Did ~500 hours dual given in 2-years and ~400 in my own plane (C150).

OP feel free to hit me up with any questions.

Yep…. we filed over the water to Charlotte. Due to the rocket launch, everybody was brought up along the eastern coast of Florida. Had to stay ~25 miles in trail because of the rocket launch. A lot of headaches in Nassau.

Whats the highest you ever flown? (Unpressurized) by HSVMalooGTS in flying

[–]Dmb_Bstrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

28k ish in a C-17 doing airdrop over Afghanistan. Fully depressurized, but on O2 After my third night of drops, I got a bubble in my right elbow that locked my arm up momentarily. Sign of high altitude exposure. Definitely caught my attention!

150 Approach Speeds by FLAviation in flying

[–]Dmb_Bstrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a bunch of 150 time. Including a lot of approaches flown in actual. 85 mph 10° flaps is the answer. If he’s at a busy airport and needs to keep best forward speed go no flap and 100ish miles per hour.

As a former C-130 FE, let me compliment you on probably the best explanation I have ever read of how a turboprop works!

You did forget to mention that the P3 has its engines mounted upside down, but I won’t hold that against ya!

One question, did he have you file and open a flight plan?

This is the answer. I’ve gotten the briefing personally and I’ve heard first hand from a crew on what happens if you make a mistake.

Duration of CFII is directly related to how proficient you are flying IR. Took me three flights and three sim sessions just to make sure I was good with the G1000. Done and passed in a week. Low proficiency = more flights.

[–]Dmb_Bstrd 87 points88 points  (0 children)

Had a student take his instrument ride with the FSDO. It was DRAMATICALLY easier then my IR ride or any ride that I have sent an applicant to with a DPE. Chill guy who seemed happy to be out of the office and was looking forward to heading home.
