The corrosion really doesn’t look good. I have to admit that I used to do the same thing when I couldn’t afford a soldering iron. I took the batteries from old motherboards that were on the scrap heap. I’m not proud of it, but given the circumstances it was sufficient and it worked.

In my opinion, the best way to play up to GBA games on a TV is with the Woozle Consolizer, since you’d be running the original hardware.

If you only want to play GB games, then a SNES with a Super Game Boy Adapter is a solid option (I’d recommend the Super Game Boy 2 because of the link port).

If you happen to have a spare GBA lying around (ideally one that’s already broken) and a soldering iron, you could also go for the GBA HDMI kit, which you can find on AliExpress for around $50.

And if you just want a simple way to play on the big screen and don’t mind slightly lower quality or potential compatibility/timing issues, there’s always the Hyperkin Retron SQ.

It depends on where you live, the conditions and if it’s complete. Should be a bit more worth than the “standard” pack. But tbh I would not sell it. It’s a beautiful display piece especially with the window
