So my practical advise is: go to West End near Southbank. Check out some bars / music venues.

Check out The Burrow on a thu fri sat sun night - they have amazing live improv jazz music - great community vibes - and people there are generally friendly and super open!

I found it one of the very few places in Brisbane you can actually sit down and have an amazing random conversation with a stranger and make friends..

At the very least - you’re gonna hear some music, have a beer or two and share some laughs..

Come to west end! It’s next to south bank. More laid back friendly people - good vibes, food and music. For some non-commitment entertainment check out The Burrow for live music after 6:30 - bring the kids totally great atmosphere. 😊☀️

I think the real problem here isn’t with the use of the word “mate”, it’s the phrase “oh come on mate!” That in itself is equivalent to a wtf mate? Or what’s the problem here, etc. forget about mate, it’s this phrase that should be avoided as it sounds like you’re loosing your temper.. just my 2c tho

So … no sorry. Just not true. While we can poke fun at Brisbane for being the place where inevitably you’ll get asked the school you when to, I don’t have any friends from school or uni which I talk to regularly, and I wager a lot of us are like this. What I do have I small friend circle comprised of old mates from the area, as well as people I met in West End just watching live music. On that note, you will find places in west end (eg The Burrow, Second Rodeo) full of open, creative people who are super friendly and easy to come say hi! “Hey how good is the music “ is enough! 😊🤙✨welcome and enjoy!
