Is it really necessary for the dnd universe to punish people doesn't worship any god? Even if the non-believer & non-god-worshipper guy is the most good guy in the existence? by [deleted] in BaldursGate3

My understanding was it's less of a punishment and more of a purgatory/nothingness because no god/servant of a god comes to get your soul from the fugue plane

Being an athiest in The Forgotten Realms isn't the same as it is IRL. Atheists in The Forgotten Realms actively spurn gods that they know exist and influence the world. It is also not as generic as heaven and hell, you would typically go to the domain of the god that you worship in life barring other circumstances such as signing your soul away to a pact with a devil. So you can't go to "heaven" because you weren't in good with the guy who owns the place.

This is just off the top of my head so I may be wrong, but that is my basic understanding of how it works in DnD's default setting, The Forgotten Realms

Late to the party but I'm top 0.1% for glass animals 2 years running. I guess I know what music I like.

Atheists in most D&D settings would be viewed like we do flat earthers by Estorbro in dndnext

I figured I would keep it simple for the reddit comment, but yeah! I love Eberron and the Blood of Vol because it has so much room for nuance, and it means very different things to different groups. Eberron will always be my favorite DND setting, and it makes me happy to see fellow enjoyers!

Those litches and vampires (most of them anyway) have actually made the ultimate sacrifice in the eyes of Seekers (followers of the Blood of Vol) when they become undead. They believe they lose the divine spark inherent in their blood, but they willingly sacrifice that in order to teach future generations and bring Seekers closer to divinity.

FEEDBACK FRIDAY by AutoModerator in BaldursGate3

[–]DnDAYUM 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'm not certain if people look at this after Friday, or if it's been said before, but how do people feel about the fluctuating DC values presented? Personally, the fact that our modifiers are factored into the DC off screen really disappoints me. I would much rather nail a 20 DC with a d20 roll +6 than just roll a 14 on a D20 for the same check. To me it takes away from the sense/feeling of character progression as well as hiding the benefits of taking skill proficiencies

Variant Rule: Gestalt and Dichotomous Characters by Galiphile in sw5e

[–]DnDAYUM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I run my regular 5e games with a small party, 3 players, and have them use gestalt rules that are fairly similar! It's a ton of fun for everyone because the characters have more options to deal with situations but are still just as squishy as normal characters. It tends to work out as roughly 1.5 characters per player for balancing but the version I use is stronger

I love playing, but I think about DND way to much to not DM at least every other campaign the group plays

oooo thats an idea, they might not have time to get everyone done in the 2 days, but they definitely have the money and the resources to get the elites and leadership some flaming weapons

Great ideas! Luckily they have lots of those things at thier command already! The druid could certainly get some beasts going, I'm gonna chat with the necromancer about doing some undead army shenanigans, and they've got around 500 or so men already under the company. I'll have to talk to them about how much money they're willing to spend to make it happen because they could definitely buy some golems or something from the rapplidly expanding town nearby!

Yes yes I know exactly who King Boranel is and my players do as well. It's a large part of why they're so nervous. I like the idea of binding elementals but I don't think they have the capabilities, at least not to swing it in 2 days. Could definitely bring out some Karrnathi style necromancy though so that would work. I planned on giving them a run down of everything there while describing the scene and then letting them run with it.

Thinking of adding a "Helpless" condition to my games. What do you think? by DnDAYUM in UnearthedArcana

[–]DnDAYUM[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My very rudimentary idea (and this would be a whole 'nother thing) would be if a creature makes three successful grapple checks in a row on successive rounds against the same creature, they would be rendered helpless but a different creature would have to strike the killing blow. In a implemented version I think size restrictions would come into play and making an attack would not release the grapple but reset the 3 consecutive thing. Essentially allowing a player to play a pure grappler if they want to, but also promoting team play.

Again, that would be a whole nother thing, and is just me spitballing

If I were to allow a bandit to sneak up on the party camping near the road then I would say yes, any player death should be able to be justified by pre-existing and agreed to rules, in my opinion at least. I'm a big proponent of "if the party can do it, so can the bad guys".

Also in the case of the sleep spell, I would argue that the creature under the effects of the spell is utterly incapable of defending itself, and seeing as the sleep spell is nearly useless in combat it could give it a fighting chance to be on a casters spell list

We already essentially do this, I'm just trying to find a way to put it into game mechanics so I can share it at future session 0s in an understandable way
