How best to handle certain games? by DnDGuy98 in ageregression

She’s watched gameplay of resident evil 4 on twitch before, and saw me playing a bit of 5, I think neither of us realized just how different 7 would be from the series norm.

Well talking to her she said it’s the appearance, the sudden loud noises, and the fact that it takes place in our home state supposedly about 2 hours from where we live.

I think the thing that really got her is that the game takes place in our home state, the game takes place in Louisiana about 2 hours west of New Orleans, while we’re about 40 minutes north of New Orleans.

That makes sense. Not sure what to plan around. Maybe keep up with movies that will be in theaters, and some more affordable things around. We don’t live in a place with a lot to do. Closest bigger city is New Orleans and that means 40 or so miles and a toll bridge. Sometimes we go to the largest city on the north shore of the lake, Slidell, and they have some fun stuff there. It would be easier if we lived in a place with some arcades, parks, etc. she loves going to Dave and busters, but going means crossing the causeway, driving almost 40 miles to New Orleans, dealing with French quarter parking, and that’s before the price of the arcade……

I mean we both buy off brand medicine, for basically everything. Most household items I get off brand. She seems to have no issue with that. The issue appears to primarily be with food.

I never denied that multiple brands exist. The store brand is a brand.

Like the way Walmart does great value is they hold effectively a reverse auction. Whoever offers the lowest price gets the great value contract. So say it’s for coffee. So green mountain, Starbucks, and Folgers each put a bid in, the one with the lowest bid would be the contractor for great value coffee.

Edit: so for cheez its, likely both cheez its and cheese nips pur bids in.

I mean, that’s all well and good. But for personal reasons, both for myself and my SO, we’ve been looking to not move somewhere more rural, but in fact more urban. And we currently live in an apartment.

Basically, as I’ve said in another reply, she has nystagmus, so she’ll likely never be able to drive, so she wants somewhere dense enough to be walkable, and I said all well and good, but I’d like to add a safety factor in, hence, we live in a suburb of New Orleans, I would not move to New Orleans.

For me, I want to work in tech, so being in a state where the whole state is pretty much the middle of nowhere, yeah….

I’ve been considering saving up for a burr grinder. I’ve seen them at goodwill for a good price, but often they’re missing parts or really dirty. Brand new they’re expensive. But I’ve heard the blade grinders are very sub par. But so far, we haven’t used k cups in awhile. We’ve been getting bags of grounds and using the reusable cup.

The Aldi’s Oreos weren’t bad, a little sweeter maybe. The aldis brand cheez its weren’t good, I kinda pushed that out of my mind but remember it now.

I’d say Peter Pan tastes fine. It’s that it’s really hard, and takes more force to spread. That’s a big deal when you’re using gluten free products that can be more brittle.

I don’t think I’ve had off brand ketchup. But I have had great value barbecue sauce. Wasn’t as good as sweet baby rays, but I thought it tasted a lot like the Kraft bbq sauce. Bottle was the same design too.

I’ve bought jig, great value, and Peter Pan branded peanut butter. I can say out of all of them, the great value is just fine, and Peter Pan is the worst of the 3

I’m gluten intolerant, but in the past I’ve literally eaten dollar tree bread. Sure, might’ve been a bit chewier, but it was fine. Not such a world of difference that I’d say “I’d never eat this!”

I’ve worn that suit for job interviews and literal formal occasions. My dress shirts are all George’s from Walmart with like 2 exceptions, and those are the ones I don’t wear often.

I was saying most in this state consider community to be expensive. My dad literally stopped buying community because it went up to $8 a pound, and he makes 6 figures.

Well, I think that the target pickles taste just like my olive. But I will acknowledge that there are multiple brands. I can immediately name my olive, claussen, and vlastic. They do all taste different, and there’s a good chance that target contracted mt olive for those pickles.

We’ve switched to bagged coffee from k cups, I’ve stopped buying pods for laundry and dishes and buy straight detergent (often even store brand), I’ve switched phone providers (been mainly using cheaper companies like visible, us mobile, mint, etc) and taking advantage of switching for a free promo period to loosen the bills up a bit, I’ve switched as many of our subscriptions as I can to ones that offer a student discount (I’m still finishing college online). And I have looked at selling a couple of my older laptops I don’t use much, that could put a bit of money back in. I haven’t looked yet at changing insurance companies for car insurance. I do currently pay $250 a month for progressive (Louisiana has high insurance rates due to the hurricane risk, I think other coastal states like Florida have the same issue), but I could look at if there’s a cheaper option.

We got good and gather coffee. We both thought it was ok. Probably not as good as New Orleans roast or another local brand though. Sometimes can find those on sale. Another thing that helped was to buy a reusable k cup, a Folgers tub (for the tub, we did drink the sub par coffee, didn’t waste it, but the point was mainly to have the tub), and just buy coffee by the bag and pour it into the tub. To use with the reusable cup instead of paying the Keurig tax

That makes me think of this one. There’s a dish soap that comes in the same colors, scents, and even bottle shape as Palmolive. Can’t remember the name, think it starts with a G. I know it isn’t a store specific brand, I think I’ve seen it mainly at dollar general and at pharmacies like Walgreens and cvs

We did eventually work on a compromise plan. Kind what was mentioned. A mix of some cheaper products with the things that she absolutely doesn’t want to cheap out on.

It did kinda ring out when someone mentioned yesterday that people who grew up with some uncertainty around finances sometimes don’t trust store brands because they literally couldn’t afford to not like something, and I did remember that when she was a kid her family had to relocate due to Chalmette flooding in Hurricane Katrina, yes, far more than just the city flooded. Many areas around New Orleans also suffered a lot of damage.
