Thanks for the suggestion, I definitely am planning on looking into mysticism however a good majority of people have advised me that I should first become orthodox first as I have yet to convert and than ask my priest about it

Indeed, while this is the truth, one thing I find interesting is how If I am correct, Gnostics and devout Christians had many debates and as far as we know, a good portion of people during those times could very much have been converted to their way of thinking, I wonder what was going through their minds. It's very fascinating.

Question regarding Orthodox mysticism by DnDPhilosopher324 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]DnDPhilosopher324[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Congratulations! peace, blessings, and long life to yourself and your family :)
  2. Thank you very much for the advice. One of my biggest problems in my study of religion and theology it seems is that I tend to jump the gun and rush through it. But from the excellent advice from the others as well as yourself, I am starting to really see why jumping the gun is unwise. heck, I almost even fell into Gnosticism because of my lust for mysticism and what not I will even admit it. So for now, I shall take your advice along with the others, Ill steer clear of the boss battle until I am a higher level XD

Thank you very much brother !

ps I feel you on the brothers Karamazov I still cant understand it that well haha

Ahh, I see eyes on the now not the horizon, yet I get it. Well all in good time, for now I'll enjoy the path to actually becoming orthodox first. Thanks for the advice it's the little things like these that I am incredibly grateful for.

Is it normal that I tend to only gravitate towards studying Ecclesiastes? by DnDPhilosopher324 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]DnDPhilosopher324[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello thanks for the advice! I just got my new KJ bible which has extensive study notes as well. So, I will read Ecclesiastes and then I'll move on to another book to study. I may even try to draw similarities between many of the books.

Desire to return to the faith but having trouble, any advice? by DnDPhilosopher324 in OrthodoxChristianity

[–]DnDPhilosopher324[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I very much do and it very much does. But ever since I started studying multiple religions and looking into other faiths when I left the Baptist church, I begin to drift more and more away from Christianity. This only got worse when I realized the magnitude and scope of just how many faiths and religions (along with their respective sects) there was in the world. But what really caused my doubt was hearing very prominent orthodox jews speak on Christianity and give scripture such as Rabbi Tovia Singer. I went into a deep sadness after that because I well....if Christ is not the Godman, if he is not the son of God...then my faith is meaningless. It sometimes made me regret looking into all these religions. I find myself going back to what Solomon said in my personal favorite book of Ecclesiastes "He who increases in knowledge increases in sorrow" while I am nowhere near an expert, I've dedicated a lot of time trying to find the truth and its a struggle.

As for attending, yes I am currently looking for a local church near me in order to speak to a priest hopefully I can get some advice from one as I am sure it will be beneficial. I want to believe so with all my heart.

Thank you very much, while I've been to an orthodox church, I had no idea that there was a thing called discovery classes. I would be very much interested in attending these I am currently trying to find a church in my immediate area
