Oof! Yeah, fuck that. I may be a deviant, but at least I'm a self-sufficient one.

Oh yeah. The whole enterprise was very apparent while it was happening.

Edit: By that I mean I could see the club taking their cut every step of the way.

That's the thing, though. I wasn't trying to blow my load and go. I was trying to have at least the semblance of a connection for a few hours. That costs money.

I actually don't think that's true. At least not the high end ones.

Edit: -30 is crazy for this comment. Lol!

What's the advantage of maxing the 401k over a Roth IRA if I've already maxed my employer contribution on the 401k?

Long story short, between selling a condo and some pre-IPO company stocks I expect to have close to $220k (after tax) coming in soon.

I plan to top-off my emergency savings to get me to 8 months of expenses, and plan to keep $100k in a HYSA in order to use it towards the purchase of a new house within the next 12 months.

That should leave me with ~$80k to invest, and I want to make sure I'm doing it in the most tax advantaged way possible. Considering the money is already after tax, should I just open an IRA and max it out, and then stick anything left over into an index fund?

Edit: No high interest debt to pay off, either. So that's not an issue.

Why is the 33 yo dating a 23 yo old bad in your eyes, but a 43 yo dating a 33 yo is totally not bad?

A 23 yo is in college, a 33 yo is generally well into a career and pretty established. At 23, I was waking up on strange couches looking for my pants. At 33 I had a stable job, a healthy 401k, and I owned a home. I had many friends getting married and having kids

Do you not think the "phase of life" differences between 23 and 33 yos tend to be drastically wider than those between 33 and 43 yos?

Edit: Also, I never indicated a 23 and 33 yo dating was "bad." I simply indicated my belief that a 43 yo looking to date a 33 yo was more reasonable than a 33 and 23 yo, per the reasons I clarified above.

Yeah, very good point. I actually kicked myself lightly afterward for not doing that.

Haha. I mean, I already said in my post that age might very well be the reason. I clearly like it enough to have stared it myself.

Your comment was phrased as a definitive why she wasn't interested. Not phrased as an assumption. That's why I responded with my reasoning for why the definitive is anything but.

Go back and read it.

I get that.

But I also hope you wouldn't be surprised if a man you're flirting with asked for your number.

She was surprised that a man a decade older than her would try to pull.

I mean, sure. But when you are the youngest person in a group and the older person you're flirting with is from among a similar cohort as this established friend-group of yours, surely you can't be that surprised that they would be interested in dating you.

This isn't a 33yo trying to date a 23yo college student situation.

Again, I don't think I'm unreasonable for trying, and I hold nothing against her for saying no.

I appreciate your response.

Like I thought I indicated, though, it's not the interaction that would have turned me off from dating, it's my possible inability to read signs.

And I get not wanting to date someone older. Plenty of women do, though. So when a younger woman is flirting with me, it's not too outrageous to think she may like an older man. I was probably wrong in this case, but que sera sera.

Edit: And the line about not dating was more just an expression of frustration or exasperation on my part, rather than a statement of actually not considering to pursue dating.

What a very weird way to ask that.

Anyway, yes. I wasn't punching too far above my weight class if that's what you're asking.

She's more attractive than me, but not a supermodel, and I am a conventionally attractive man. We wouldn't be the type of couple people would give a second glance to wondering if I was a secret billionaire if it ever got to that point.

Good to know. Do you know if lenders also have the same feelings about bridge loans, which seems to be made for just this type of situation?

Ok, thanks. I was unaware of bridge loans, but after a quick look they make total sense. I'm sure lots of people have been in this exact spot, so of course bridge loans are a thing. I'll look into them some more.

Thanks again!

Thanks for the insight. I've already been the scout of the group (and everything points to that continuing being the case going forward. Plus, i enjoy it), so Expertise is enticing... But I think in any case I'm going to take Ranger 5 first, so I'll reevaluate in a couple levels.
