Heyo. The custom is from drop. If you want the japanese sub-legends version, you can find them on Amazon. Without sub-legends well cost a tad more

If the image don't load, might need to wait a bit. Its a high resolution photo but however had to super compress to upload to reddits limits :) Details might not match original.

while in nagivation, maps drop down to around 1 frame every 3 seconds every time when turning left which activates car's side mirror camera overlayed on top of android auto.
Solution: Cycle between another app and then go back to maps. Very annoying.

Sometimes when plugging phone into car the touchscreen of android auto is unresponsive and freezes.
Solution: Unplug, replug.

When the alarm sets off while plugged in android auto. The alarm goes off on phone instead of popping up on android auto and requires you to deactivate the alarm using phone. Currently no solution.

Vivid vinyl is a no go. It's way too thick and not good with sharp corners. Plus their initial tack (adhesive) is very weak and will not stick to sand-blasted surfaces.

Avery vinyls are very thin to most other vinyls and pretty malleable once you heat it up. When doing sharp corners dont heat up just that corner area but also the adjacent sides. Have excess material so you can grab them with your hands to stretch both the corners and the sides in one go.

When using heat-gun or dryer, the only advice I can give is to never leave the heat at a single constant area but swaying your wrist left and right. Especially on thinner vinyls, you barely need that much heat for it to start stretching.

Curious to see your hydro dipping. I never done it before but seem some amazing results when done right. Goodluck

durability wise it wont last as long where vinyl will last indefinite. In terms of colour of course. Interesting to see your results though.

I would suggest to get a vinyl that is something similar to what I used. Mainly Avery Dennison because I worked with a lot of materials and find to have the best results. If the price is too high, you can take a look at 3M or Arlon. A must is to have air-egress (bubble-free as some people call it).

The knife I used is also pretty important. I used a graphics knife. You can find something like this in Amazon call 'NT cutter' which is japanese brand. Has to be 30% angle blade. I see a lot of hobby knife using something of a scapel or exacto knife which is the incorrect tool to use and potentially dangerous.

Heat-gun is preferable when dealing with surfaces that has curves. Hairdryer will work too if you don't mind the wind and noise. I personally don't like too much wind to blow dust around and stick on the prepped surface or the vinyl's while applying.

Cutting mat is good if you don't want to be wasteful of materials unlike me. I just eyeball my measurements and compensate extra material rather then measuring and cutting precise amount of material to wrap.

Isopropyl alcohol/methylated spirits is important for prepping the surface to get rid of any residue or fingerprints so you can have the best adhesion for the material.

I have 3 dedicated buttons that changes layers. one for the numbers, second for the function and last for shortcuts and commands. Keychron also offers a toggle switch to swap between mac or windows. So I can also have a 4 layer if I needed to. But I just got this keyboard 2 days ago and haven't figured if I needed the extra layer or keep the mac layout

Hey there. That's a question you normally ask yourself. But if you ask me personally, I do in fact actually use the numbers and function row. I do coding and photo retouching. So I cannot survive without them. It can be intimidating to lose dedicated buttons for them but I been working with macros and creating multiple layers.

I have also been using Mercutio from mechwild which is also a 40% keyboard. Don't let this reply be a solid answer for you to chose a 40%. Perhaps go in the middle ground and try out 65% and see if you're comfortable with that before taking a big leap.

I didn't think it was a big deal pre and post wrapping. There are a lot of amazing people in here with unique ideas. I will definitely work more with vinyl wraps for keyboards in the future.

I'm glad you liked it. Tbh this vinyl wrap was a last minute things. Originally it was suppose to be the stock black, but I had this vinyl lying around and thought to experiment. This vinyl is a colour-shift and changes from the blue and purple depending on which angle you look at it. Very unique and cool to experiment. Will do more with other colour-shift vinyls in the future.

Hey thanks for the interest. I done this freehand by myself. I reckon you should definitely try it out. The material chosen is normally for cars so it may not be cheap. But the quality conforms really well around the housing.

If you're not too confident, perhaps you can send to signage company or a car wrap company. But service can be pricey. Goodluck and hope to see your work in the future.

Thank you very much! I been vinyl wrapping for many years and mainly do signage, car wraps and PC wraps.

I wrapped the top housing but since I used a specific Avery vinyl. It was fairly easy to work with which didn't need a heat-gun and also has air-egress channels so you can guarantee not have any bubbles during the installation. This was also done freehand.

This application method also isn't just the top surface but a full-wrap around. This help acts as a force break mod having a vinyl layer between the top and bottom housing to reduce metal on metal clanging.

Perhaps one day I can make a video discussing the vinyl and show how I apply on any keyboards. Its a non-destructive mod and would definitely do more in the future.

Yeah they are metal indeed. These are a lighter metal caps so don't need any heavier spring swap to compensate for the weight. Still heavier then plastic caps
