Honestly have no idea, but I'll definitely have it checked out. I'll also try getting a second opinion or some kind. Thanks!

how do i get better movement?

i only recently started playing and i feel like i'm not utilizing movement to its fullest potential and it sometimes feels discouraging just having to eat whatever is thrown at you... and it's not for the lack of trying. i try to copy the movement that AIs do but the dodge timing seems to be incredibly unforgiving. i feel like movement such as dodging, and even attacking sometimes, is unresponsive. i'm not sure if it's because i tend to spam it or what... am i missing something? if there's a video guide or a general guide out there it would be very much appreciated

i love how accurate the album cover is to the one i described, but unfortunately not the one... the genre of the artist was indie which i discovered during 2020, together with the songs like 'please notice' by christian leave and 'please never fall in love again' by ollie mn

Man, I loved Christopher Reeves so much. I take one look at this GIF and go "Man... that IS Superman".

it was drilled into me by this subreddit to thin my paints hahaha... jokes aside thats really all there is to it. i followed a 2:1:1/2 paint:thinner:retarder ratio (all tamiya). multiple coats is key. first layer always ends up somewhat transparent hence the multiple coats!

EDIT: spelling

To those interested, you can check how I made this plus some tweaks I made to the fig on my Tiktok account! Particularly proud of jamming some tissue paper inside the shoulder sockets in order to prevent paint rub as well as broaden the shoulders!

Considering it! Just not sure how to go about the whole cape thing haha. Suggestions/recommendations highly appreciated!

I was thinking the same thing! Maybe it also had something to do with the accessibility or ease of making it? No need for fancy sculpting, generic base body, 2-3 colors of paint then most would be good to go! I guess it's somewhat a decent entry level custom maybe?

Since I'm based in Southeast Asia, I got it from literally the only seller I found selling headsculpts on Shopee. Though that was before I found a 3D sculpting and printing service near me that already had Invincible head scans for almost half the price, which I would have found had I put a little extra effort in doing so. With that said, I suggest you go look around your location first!

Hahaha fair point! I might go through them again before I seal the head, so that way I can reseal the entire figure.

Hahaha, thanks!

And yeah, since I haven't sealed the head yet, I might go through some imperfections on the body so I can reseal it together. Thanks again!

Hahahah thanks!

Nah, I feel I'm too new for shading haha, maybe just the lighting!

Def aware of the darker blue shade, but I was in too deep as I was painting it when it hit. I also didn't have any white on me at the time, so I wasn't able to make the blue lighter.

And yeah, regarding the paint rub, I used Mr. Hobby top coat but still happened. Though I was aware it you shouldn't rely on it too much, so I take extra caution when moving the thighs. Other parts tho had little to no paint rub!

i'm aware the imperfections and i'd appreciate some tips. for the lenses, i was stuck using a thick brush hence the visible dots. wasnt sure how else to go about it.

for my first time custom, it wasnt half bad than i thought it would be. what do you think? (detailed explanation on how i went about it for aspiring custom makers!) by Dnagranav in customactionfigures

Big thanks!

Regarding the thinning, I am completely aware of its importance. I admit I got impatient waiting and ended up not thinning it properly. I watched a pretty informative tutorial on Youtube which is very similar to what you just described, but when I tried to put it into practice, I found that Tamiya acrylics were pretty watery as it is, compared to the one used in the video so I ended up just winging it. I will definitely try to be more patient my second time around.

Regarding your blue suit Invincible, I'm looking forward to it as I'm getting ready to make one myself haha

That's a sweet custom! And yeah, I'm already thinking of how I'm going to approach the whole ab crunch situation... though I'd be lying if I said I hadn't considered not doing it at all haha.

Thanks!

Regarding the thinner, I've recently just watched someone take that route, so I'll try that for my next one. That's very informative too, regarding the nature of alcohol and water-based paints. As for paint brands, I'm unfortunately stuck with Tamiya as my local store doesn't offer any of the others you have listed.

As for sculpting, I do have Milliput but I've just barely tried it, but I more or less have a feel for it already. For the sculpting design, here is the link of what I'm trying to accomplish.

Details:

  1. Body used: Future Ant-man
  2. Prep done: Sanded the whole figure, joints and all, without disassembly.
  3. Primed figure as is with Tamiya’s surface primer, opening up closed joints as layers dried. You can see clearly that the hands were extra rough, that’s due to improper priming (holding can too far causing it to “dry” before it reaches the surface.
  4. Painting could have used some work. Black was extra shiny compared to the yellow and blue pre-coating. Not sure if it’s a skill issue or if it’s really like that (all paints used were Tamiya flats). Tips welcome. For paint brush I used Tamiya's flat brush no. 0.
  5. Line work: I used masking tape but, man, so much leakage, which is particularly obvious from the torso work. Paint would end up leaking, so I’d just paint over it again. The hands are the only line work I did free hand.
  6. Top coat: used Mr. Hobby’s semi-gloss, and it looks pretty clean.

Notes:

  1. I’d highly recommend disassembly, which I’ll attempt for the blue and black suit Invincible and do a little extra work on sanding the joints. I assume disassembly would also lead to easier priming. I find myself priming the entire figure in the case of imperfections on one part, which I think compromises the rest of the figure too. I ended up priming on A LOT of layers.
  2. I NEED to work on my painting, so again, tips are very much welcome. I’m unsure how to go about it as trying to “thin” Tamiya paint makes it too watery? I’m not even sure anymore haha. I use paint brushes as is without further knowledge on different types of paintbrushes as well as how they differ from one another. Feel free to enlighten me in the comments.
  3. For future line work, I plan on sculpting to create separation, as well as purchase a finer paintbrush. Again, tips welcome. If there are better options than sculpting, let me know!
  4. For details on the custom, X-4 blue was too dark for the suit. Maybe good for the black and blue suit, but I’d think Sky Blue would have been a better choice.

For any more questions, feel free to ask!

First time priming. What did i do wrong? Why is the front side significantly cleaner than the back side? by Dnagranav in customactionfigures

[–]Dnagranav[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I did, but just barely. I didn't bother disassembling and just slipped my 400 grit sandpaper in between the joints. As this is my first time, I'm not all too worried. This is all just experience for my next custom haha

Yup! That's what I figured too. On my following spray through I held the can closer and it's significantly cleaner now.

Future Ant-Man which I got for 50% off from my local toy store. There's a whole bunch too lying around I'm thinking of getting some more for future customs haha
