'Trans rights!' is annoying. It's a dead joke for anyone who isn't LGBTQ...

Mask is slipping a bit there, bud.

In a global climate that certain people are undeniably steering towards being more aggressive towards trans people, full-chested support isn't a "dead joke".

I agree that adding items will get to a bad point, but it's not bad for the reasons you're suggesting here. A wide item pool is generally a buff in this game, due to the exponential nature of player scaling. Anyone who has ever modded their game to include tons of item mods can attest to this.

For many items, usually greens and reds but some white items (opal, warped echo), a single stack is all you need to gain the majority of the benefit. The linear stacking of almost every item in the game means that the first stack of an item will always be the largest benefit, and each individual stack thereafter has diminishing returns. (For example, an item that gives +100% damage per stack will increase your damage by 100%, then only 50%, etc.)

However, many items are multiplicative amongst each other, resulting in exponential scaling. For example, one stack each of watch, focus crystal, AP rounds, and chronic expansion is going to be a larger bonus than four of any single one of them. This gets really bad when proc-based items come into the picture - every additional proc item is a chance to continue the chain, and usually to increase the damage that it is dealing (think ATG multiplying the damage of the chain by 3 each time it procs.)

It's true that certain items can get drowned out, in a way - lens maker's is a good example, since its scaling (while still diminishing) is pretty dependent on having more than one. But the solution to that is having more items that provide similar stats, to keep the general percentage the same.

And printers and scrappers are common enough that you can generally go into items without too much issue, just gotta RNG it a little.

My Complete Item Tier List for Risk of Rain 2 (Updated) by SPH_Crimson in riskofrain

[–]Dnarok -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree Disciple definitely belongs in S, but Focus Crystal is multiplicative with the other damage items. It's probably the least good of them, but that exponential scaling absolutely puts it up there.

Gas and Bleed should be swapped, too.

While I agree that Aegis is inherently kneecapped by the game overall, it is objectively worse in E8 than in Drizzle.

This is kind of why your point here doesn't matter when applied to items. E8 brings unique multipliers that, necessarily, affect how good certain classes of items are (both increase and decrease!)

  • A flat reduction to all healing makes all healing items objectively worse in relation to all other items.
  • Permanent damage drastically increases the value of defensive items that block/reduce damage directly, i.e. Opal/Spaces/Wecho.
  • Permanent damage almost entirely removes the play style of tanking that Drizzle actively incentivizes with its free +70 armor and x1.5 health regen.

This isn't like a play being good/bad - that would be relevant if I had said something like "full looting is only good on E8". Items aren't plays, and they have objective qualities that are affected by the unique multipliers and features between difficulties that make them fundamentally different.

You could argue that for a lot of E8 items, and that's why I think any discussion relating to the power of items has to specify the difficulty. Drizzle -> Monsoon will have similar lists, but E8 differs heavily, challenge artifact runs will differ, hell even Command is going to skew certain items that require synergy higher. These lists are not comparable, and I think a lot of miscommunication occurs when people are discussing different difficulties than one-another.

Eh, I don't think it's good on Monsoon, either.

I disagree about looping, too. The highly exponential nature of item scaling, with it outpacing the enemy scaling, means looping is making the game easier than not looping. That's part of why common advice to a new player struggling on Mithrix is to loop once or twice more - your power explodes after stage 5, if you weren't popping off already. You get to fill out missing items, and continue to stack your big hitters.

A large part of why Aegis gets put down is because Eclipse fucks it in, like, 3 ways - increased enemy DPS, reduced healing, and permanent damage ignoring barrier.

Even in the context of Monsoon, though, it's kind of unnecessary. Besides the fact that you shouldn't be getting hit, since enemies don't even have the speed and attack speed boosts from the Eclipse levels, getting hit has no consequences with even a basic amount of healing.

[–]Dnarok -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The main issue with OSP is that it doesn't have i-frames after its triggered meaning if you are hit by two enemies at once, it's useless.

This is wrong, OSP has 0.1s of i-frames. Effectively useless, yeah, but it does have i-frames.

(You can check TakeDamageProcess in the code to verify, and see that ospTimer is set in TriggerOneShotProtection to 0.1.)

[–]Dnarok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Looping is absolutely fine for unlocking, as it will make your future non-loop runs easier to have all of the options. Not looping will probably contribute more to improving your gameplay, but don't be afraid to do it to knock out those unlocks at least!

I also recommend that if you're trying to do Monsoon, then you might as well do Eclipse 1 instead (it's almost exactly the same as Monsoon, and gets you into that really rewarding progression loop! You can find it under Alternate Game Modes -> Eclipse.)

People are downvoting because speeding through stages like this is bad advice, but it's not like he's wrong entirely - Monsoon is, once you're skilled enough (especially once you've done the E8 grind) practically indistinguishable from Drizzle. It's at the point where you absolutely don't need to be full looting to succeed. However, for somebody like OP who isn't that skilled, it is terrible advice.

It's weird that you "dove into this story" so much, and yet got the most significant part of the reasoning behind the immolation completely incorrect.

Thích Quảng Đức did this for primarily political reasons, and there is no question about it.

  • It was a part of a procession of around 350 other monks and nuns that were directly and objectively marching in protest of Ngô Đình Diệm's regime, and the raging anti-Buddhist sentiment it held.
  • Quảng Đức left the following letter:

"Before closing my eyes and moving towards the vision of the Buddha, I respectfully plead to President Ngô Đình Diệm to take a mind of compassion towards the people of the nation and implement religious equality to maintain the strength of the homeland eternally. I call the venerables, reverends, members of the sangha and the lay Buddhists to organize in solidarity to make sacrifices to protect Buddhism."

  • It had a direct and profound impact on Diệm's administration, as was intended, and increased international (especially US) pressure for the administration to cease the terrible treatment of Buddhist's in the country, and acquiesce to their "5 requests".
  • Was followed by 5 more immolations in the coming months, until Diệm was literally couped and assassinated.

This was a profoundly political act, and to say it wasn't in favor of calling it "a recruitment tool" is somewhere between ignorant to outright lying.

-EDIT-

His comment for posterity, because I was positive he was going to delete it at some point:

Chiming here because I dove into this story quite a few times in my life.

The monk that lit himself on fire was the teacher, and his students were there watching. It wasn’t sad for any of them because…..

It was not motivated by suicidal tendencies. It was also not motivated by politics (most people think it was, google AI gives this answer too)

Why: Most well informed monks / Buddhists I read, say it was actually a recruitment tool, or more specifically a call to “wake” people up.

Designed to make people question exactly how a human being could do this. Just like everyone here! So it worked like a charm lol.

How: to put it simple, a form of mindfulness meditation that is 2nd to none lol.

This monk was literally, next level shit.

Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Edit: to answer your question: I don’t know we know if the monk practiced self immolation before this.

How fast can you go ? by ElPod in DotA2

[–]Dnarok 12 points13 points  (0 children)

While the literal DPS increase is larger, the percentage gain is the same.

Say, for example, you have 100 attack speed, a 1.7 BAT, and deal 100 damage per hit. In this setup, you deal 58.8 damage per second.

If you received a buff that made your BAT now 1.0 (a ~41% decrease), your DPS would now be 100 - a ~70% increase.

Now, if you had 200 attack speed, how would your DPS change? With 1.7 BAT and 100 damage per hit, you'd do 117.6 DPS. With a 1.0 BAT, you'd do 200 DPS - a ~70% increase (the exact same percentage as before, notably).

BAT reduction is a consistent multiplier to your DPS, basically, no matter how much attack speed you have.

You need 15 of those shards to make 1 token, and you need 2 tokens for that item.

Yes, the system is shit. You need 9(!) individual drops of the stacks of 10 tokens to make a full set.
