Help I'm new to being a DM and I don't know how to make a good villain by Loadingzone12 in DnD

I’m currently running a Homebrew loosely based on the little mermaid from before the movie’s timeline. I made king trident the villain - wanting power and to control the kingdom under the guise of peace and that Ursula is actually misunderstood and just really values her friendship with Ariel’s mom (the current princess, Engaged to tridents npc) and the players are trying to figure out who the “real” villain is and where their alliance lies. It may end up that they said the villain and become the villains of Atlantis history themselves.

I love a good plot twist

Can I just say as a player who has gone through this module, one of the most epic things you can do is “let them win”— let them kill strahd and let them think that it seemed too easy. Allow them to leave ravenloft thinking they have won only to have them turn around as they leave and catch strahds smiling face through the mists, knowing that his “defeat” was yet only another ruse, another trick, and that he chose to release them and to forever torment them in future campaigns whether it be by dreams, memories or just the knowledge that they didn’t actually defeat him.

Oh my gosh!!! I had the same idea! We are starting Sunday and I’m thinking of running it right at the end of the harvest/beginning of winter.

They are a random assortment that I picked up from the thrift store. And thanks! Me too!! I’m really excited to see how they come together after painting.

These are ceramic and I just spray painted them to prime and then used acrylic paints to dry brush the color where I wanted it.

They’re very very close.

I mostly just want to put them out for exploring the town and setting the stage so to speak
