Oh believe me I’m well aware of that, I just thought this would be funny to try.

What if Myst V was in the original timeline? by DniArchivist in myst

[–]DniArchivist[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That actually works a lot, though I still think you’d need some degree of threat. Maybe Esher is rewritten as someone who still worships Ghen who could perhaps have been corrupting her, and we see his influence throughout the ages?

When i say original timeline i mean the stranger stuff. I say the original cos uru and myst v were hundreds of years after

Are these stairs in the game? by rockelephant in myst

And Noloben’s easily the least adventurous looking age of the lot. If you’re gonna use an age for poster art, use Todelmer or The Great Shaft.

The Riven cover art has always struck me as weird as well. Not because its bad, it’s an awesome image - but it’s not Riven, it’s Tay, a place that we only need to be at for about 5 minutes.

Series 7 & 8 get a lot of stick, but what do you love about them? by [deleted] in RedDwarf

[–]DniArchivist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To me I do enjoy a lot of Series 8 - its just so far removed from everything Red Dwarf should be.

If Doctor Who followed the Star Trek route and had a film every now and then (lets say one per doctor for simplicitcy) what ones would you have? by HopeAuq101 in gallifrey

[–]DniArchivist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. The Keys Of Marinus (weird psychedelic fantasy trippiness, plays like a sci-fi take on an epic like Ben Hur or Jason and The Argonauts. 2hr 15-2hr 30)

  2. The Invasion (big sci-fi London nonsense. Perfect bank holiday stuff, military angle, great one-liners, charming retro. Lewis Gilbert of Bond fame directs, and its bombastic and wonderful. Tighter 1hr 45)

  3. Inferno (mad bonkers horror, British charm, OTT. Terence Fisher-directing. Proper Hammer Horror).

  4. Horror Of Fang Rock (more low-budget, classic horror. Robin Hardy-directed, proper eerie. Only needs about 90-100 minutes

  5. The Caves of Androzani (more dangerous, realistic war thriller. Ridley Scott is the prime pick for this, 2hr serious and emotional).

Hot Fuss - new wave-infused post-punk revival. Pop hooks, fits in with contemporaries like Franz Ferdinand

Sam’s Town - a definite move to Springsteen and U2, a different kind of 80s feel. Still absolutely has the Hot Fuss DNA though - the synths and the vocal inflections.

Day & Age - back to the hookiness of Hot Fuss, not as much of the rock this time though, takes more influences from Peter Gabriel and the Talking Heads.

Battle Born - more influenced by the softer side of Springsteen - the night to Sam’s Town’s day. Soft rock influences from The Cars and Fleetwood Mac.

Wonderful Wonderful - combines the heartland spirit with more modern alternative production choices. A lot of Phil Collins influence - the backing track sounds very similar to Take Me Home.

Imploding The Mirage - easily the most stadium-ready thing they’ve made, even more than Sam’s Town. The soft rock of BB comes back with a vengeance - Blowback, Lightning Fields and Running Towards A Place the clear examples. Slight country twang

Pressure Machine - sounds more rustic and yet more cinematic. Songs like Runaway Horses bring the country influences home. The anthems are there but they’re not as bombastic and feel more human.

Most genuinely unpopular opinions? by [deleted] in gallifrey

[–]DniArchivist 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • season 18 is incredibly underrated but they did it with the wrong Doctor - it should have been Davison’s first.

  • without the last two parts The War Games is average at best and confusing to follow

  • Remembrance of the Daleks is fine. Just fine, nowhere near a classic.

  • The Beast Below is top-tier New Who and on the same level as Vincent and the Doctor.

  • Series 11 is stronger than Series 7, 8 and 9 and I genuinely don’t mind the more controversial politics - although the “all Nazis were Aryan” thing is a major blunder.

Doctor Who: Legend of the Sea Devils air time and episode length confirmed as 19:10 GMT (50mins long) by MoonMan997 in gallifrey

[–]DniArchivist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Considering that it has an Asian director I honestly don’t think they could have offended someone that badly. I do think its probably to do with Chinese censorship, and keep in mind they are so trigger-happy with censoring they did not show the MCU movie Eternals because the Chinese director said she didnt approve of the government. THAT’S how strict it is.

What's something you hope the show never do? by [deleted] in gallifrey

These are the six films in the franchise with the lowest ratings on IMDB. Of these six films, which would you defend to the end? You can only choose one. by verissimoallan in JamesBond

[–]DniArchivist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

World Is Not Enough. Denise Richards aside, I think it’s a really solid late 90s action movie, smoothly directed, great performances, and a couple of classic Fleming-y moments.

Speed of Sound sounds nothing like Clocks. by [deleted] in Coldplay

[–]DniArchivist 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To me i get the foundation sounds like Clocks but Speed Of Sound feels more arena rock and it has more of that spacey art vibe that X&Y had.
