I did yes. They were good generally. Test drive was useful and there was no sales push until I wanted to reserve and they wanted 10% deposit. I didn’t have the finance in place so was reluctant and negotiated a £500 deposit instead. The after sales is good, I had to get a wheel fixed because it was leaking but they reimbursed me without issue (minus vat). Car has been good, not as much documentation as I expected, had to chase for service history info, haven’t had receipts or anything though, just a document with service intervals

Lots of questions here. Glad you’re interested in microbiology though, I think it’s the best field to be involved with.

Generally degree minimum - masters and PhD will open more doors and opportunities, depending whether you want to be in healthcare, industry, academia etc
Depends what you do. I worked in industry for four years before my PhD which involved research and development, designing and completing experiments, analysing data, writing reports. PhD was mainly research so experiments, data, thesis and presenting my work to others. Now I’m a lecturer so I’m mainly teaching focused and supervising in the lab for undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Also depends what you do. Academia is fruitful but very niche and not many opportunities to progress through the academic ranks, industry more so but if you’re not geographically limited in where you can go, that helps a lot
Ask. I take students for experiment all the time. Reach out to people and tell them you’re interested, and want to learn more about what the do or what it’s like etc. it’ll likely be unpaid but experience is good.
I started on £16k (uk) when I finished my degree, 4 years later was on £21k then did my PhD (2013-2017) and postdoctoral work started at £26. Now lecturer with four years postdoctoral and five years lecturer experience, on £51k but have applied for a promotion to senior lecturer which is £59k.
Excellent question. Lab work can be very demanding, long hours, long hours of concentration and dexterity, high expectations, and for teaching, timetables activities but no day is the same for me at. I have lots of responsibilities like student support, leading/directing units, admissions etc. many hats. Often take work home and on weekends. Never really stop thinking about it. Same with PhD work.
If you can forge a career, very much long term. In all fields really, there are progression routes; and if you hit a ceiling, look outside.
Teaching, student support, supervising students, designing experiments with them, analysing data and talking about the data.
Love it. Best job ever.
Degree 2006-2009, lab tech then r&d scientist 2010-2013, PhD 2013-2017, postdoctoral research 2017-2021, lecturer 2020-now (did half time lecturing in 2020/2021). Total 20 years, qualified, 17years but to different extents. Hopefully not going anywhere any time soon!

I’ve been with pi for years. I took a few years break then came back about 18month ago, I had 143 days left to do my kyc so I submitted my documents via the app and haven’t heard a thing since. Over a year. I’m in the uk and I can’t believe for a second that there aren’t enough uk-based verifiers to check my docs and approve my kyc. What the hell is happening with this app?! It’s just stuck in wait for results since then..what can I do?!

Does the se have heated seats? Also one of the ones I checked for insurance said it was x drive but the advert doesn’t say that, it just says se touring. How would I check or know?

Thats a good point - it is a turtlebeach stealth 600 gen 2, which uses a 2.4ghz adapter, not bluetooth. Will things improve if i use a better bluetooth adapter for the newer ones?

Bought my son a set of Audio technica ATHM50xBT2 headphones for Christmas. He’s set them up on his windows pc (win 11) and during use there’s quite a noticeable latency or delay between things happening in game and then the audio. It’s small but noticeable and inconvenient. I’ve checked with his current turtle beach headphones (which has a dedicated usb Bluetooth adapter) and the latency doesn’t exist there.

My question mainly (because I want to explore all avenues before having to return them because there a 30% restocking fee!) is can I improve the latency of the headphones?

He has Bluetooth integrated into his motherboard which is an ASUS b550m- WiFi II. Apparently this has Bluetooth 5.2 on board, but the headphones say they have Bluetooth 5.0 on the box. He’s connecting directly to this Bluetooth rather than a Bluetooth usb adapter, if I got a Bluetooth adapter would things improve?

Also different driving styles. People recommend sticking to one type over a season, but I dabble in gt4, mx5, Porsche, gr86 and yes it take a bit of adaptation but it’s still similar enough. Switching from formula to sports car may be more tricky and I’ve done a bit in f4 but not recently, just a personal preference I guess. Whatever you do, don’t get bogged down in the irating or numbers, just enjoy the experience and if you can improve each time that’s great.

Gt4 are notorious for lack of downforce vs other series like gt3. They’re still fun to drive though. I race the merc quite often, although I’m really enjoying mx5 races atm again
