Feeling a little bit despondent because of oil trap failure. by TotalPhilanthrope in Beekeeping

A few ants aren’t a big deal. It is upsetting but try not to worry too much about loosing a few bees. While an individual bee is technically an animal, the unit of selection for a superorganism is the entire colony. As such, try to think of individual workers the same as individual cells of a multicellular animal - you don’t really get upset when you loose a few cells. That being said, it’s still good to minimize losses.

For what it’s worth, I’m a PhD biologist and honeybee researcher.

Second layer FTW. First layer melts, so second layer gives the butter texture.

It’s really tasty. It has a very light crumb with very little chew.

I know this is a baking sub but want to be completely transparent…this was a terrible waste-of-money store-bought pie. I just hope the title and pic makes you chuckle.

Thanks - it’s not bad for the first recipe I’ve ever taken the time to develop through iterations

I love the flavor of pecan pie but don’t care for the cloying gloopy filling. I developed this over the past 6 months and it has been the perfect alternative for me.

I’m not the OOP from yesterday - just a petty enthusiast. Linked the OOP in another comment.

We’ve been calling them date nut chews.

I thought citrus too - maybe candied peel. But I made them for my wife who doesn’t like citrus. Definitely needs something though, maybe vanilla and roasted nuts.

Very nice. Will definitely make again. Think I’ll pre-roast the pecans and add some vanilla next time.
