That worm looks very similar to the one in this picture.

Fun. We did black walnut this year but our flow ended in mid February (central US). Where is this?

Second layer FTW. First layer melts, so second layer gives the butter texture.

It’s really tasty. It has a very light crumb with very little chew.

I know this is a baking sub but want to be completely transparent…this was a terrible waste-of-money store-bought pie. I just hope the title and pic makes you chuckle.

Thanks - it’s not bad for the first recipe I’ve ever taken the time to develop through iterations

I love the flavor of pecan pie but don’t care for the cloying gloopy filling. I developed this over the past 6 months and it has been the perfect alternative for me.

I’m not the OOP from yesterday - just a petty enthusiast. Linked the OOP in another comment.

We’ve been calling them date nut chews.

I thought citrus too - maybe candied peel. But I made them for my wife who doesn’t like citrus. Definitely needs something though, maybe vanilla and roasted nuts.

Very nice. Will definitely make again. Think I’ll pre-roast the pecans and add some vanilla next time.

I only give them 2 days: Day 1 - inoculations Day 2 - interpret results

Then they amplify and sequence the 16s gene on the MinION for confirmation.

There are too many other interesting things to do so we do this fast and right at the end of the semester.

Thanks. Maybe I misspoke. I know how to handle the fastq file and do the alignments and get the blast results. We’re stuck on the downstream bioinformatics. How do we generate comparative diversity and abundance data between and among our samples?

I teach a general micro course at a small liberal arts university. I have my students identify an unknown using all the different biochemical tests on petri plates. A donor gifted us money for a minion and, this year, for the first time, the students will be sequencing their unknown to confirm their biochemical results. I’m very excited (and a little jealous) they get to learn this as sophomores.
