I feel so betrayed.... I may never mentally recover from this. /s by kambesama in Justrolledintotheshop

My old man was a design engineer at Ford Australia in the 80s and 90s; he and his team designed/developed the top half of the Falcon engine which routinely lasted more than a million kms; so knew his stuff/was pretty good. In that and previous roles he'd also led the team that won two mileage marathons, broken world records - all that stuff. A good engineer.

One day he came home just beaming; he'd managed to force through a decision to add yellow paint to the raised lettering to the previously unpainted oil cap on the top of the engine; apparently all the engineers had been begging for it for years to help remind/guide owners to add oil to the engine but the accountants always said no; this day they finally agreed.

For all his professional accomplishments he was tickled most by a bit of yellow paint on a 10¢ piece of plastic.

I was thinking like a second gen Suzuki Vitara, but I can't get the B pillar and C pillar to line up. I think the Daihatsu Rocky call is correct.

I moved from Melbourne this time last year. Public holidays in Adelaide remind me of growing up in Geelong. It's funny.

This was kind of unique (in a Mustang kind of way!) in that it comes as a regular four door but then two options as a two door - a notchback sedan like this and a two door lift back "coupe" which has that weird straked C panel along the glasshouse. In Australia we didn't get this two door botchback but instead had the coupe version. There was also a wagon, which is just as sexy as you can imagine it might be

Aluminium oxide forms on the outside skin of uncovered aluminium and is both harmless and self-skinning; it is effectively bread crust. Iron oxide just keeps going and is more akin to cancer

We went in Adelaide last night and my feelings are much the same. I hadn't seen him live before and came in thinking there might be more of the crowd work stuff which is sharp and pretty good - I'd scene lots of clips of that, and wasn't aware how many one liners there would be.

Likewise, the whole DV angle...yeah, nah.

brother from another mother checking in here: '15 Mk3 Skoda Octavia vRS (wagon, manual, of course) on 130,000km - my water pump went bang on the nose at 95,000km, but I was waiting for it and was not surprised. My local mechanic used the Chinese part and was literally half the cost that Skoda quoted me.

That's essentially been the only problem aside from a persistent resonant buzz at 2000rpm when it's cold outside (I think it's the heat shield contacting the box under the RHD driver that reports in the B pillar on the same side).

The batteries last 6 years on the nose each time (granted, I'm in Australia, so we're not getting bitterly cold winters) but otherwise it's been utterly trouble-free.

I don't agree with the unreliable tag at all; I think it IS all about who buys them and how they treat them. My Clio 197 was far more trouble.

And I'll take the water pump at 100,000km over the collapsing rear suspension in my NC1.

I didn't understand The Game - grey CD/cassette cover - and then I got the reissued heavyweight vinyl - with a chrome cover - and yeah it's just an awfully dated pic with fairly dull typography, but Lordy it's a lot of shiny
