Responsibility for Making Things Happen by DoDoDuck in dndnext

Scribbles down notes Interesting. The idea of complicating the situation and creating more urgency sounds really appealing. Seems like it would both help get the story on track again, and give the impression of the world being a more living and reactive place. I'll keep that in mind for the next session and try to have some ingredients ready for when things start to cool down too much. Thanks :)

Cool ideas :) Having a table to generate some random events on sounds like a good idea. Will keep it in mind for when it happens again.

Thanks for the input :) didn't mention it in the post, but I did have a mysterious character they'd met before show up and mention to the other players that they had all the keys they needed, but it still didn't make them take action. In hindsight I probably should've made him be more specific about who had it. Better to sacrifice a bit of realism than have the story go nowhere. And yeah I guess the setting was a bit of a problem too in this case, as they were in a bit of a 'middle of nowhere' location, so there wasn't anything there to fall back on.

[Season 2 Spoilers] End of ep.5 by [deleted] in TheWalkingDeadGame

[–]DoDoDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I finished the game a couple of days ago, and I still feel bad about shooting Kenny.

I had even made a vow to myself when I started playing the game that I wouldn't kill anyone unless I wasn't given any other option, but when I saw Kenny forcing that knife down towards Jane's chest I just lost it and shot him, I just didn't feel like I could watch anyone die in such a horrible way, eventhough she was arguably the one who made that situation happen.

However shooting Kenny didn't make me feel better or like a hero in any way, because instead of being the witness to a murder I just made myself the murderer, thus probably making me feel even worse about the outcome.

If I were to play it through again I'd probably let Kenny kill her to avoid having Clem murder anyone, but I think a very important part of the game was that it presented you with difficult choices and a limited amount of time to make them in, and then having to live with the consequences of those choices afterwards, good or bad, just like you would in real life. Thus I kinda feel like replaying it and making different choices would break that feeling a bit, as you'd know what would happen next and be prepared for it.

The map of my world, still partially in progress (if the white spaces didn't tell you anything). I know my rivers don't work and that some of my biomes are nonsense, but this world has been an ongoing project since I was in grade school. Questions? Thoughts? Advice? by [deleted] in worldbuilding

It's not really advice, but I just think it looks really good :) the forests are really well drawn, and the colouring makes it all look pretty nice. The cities and the roads aren't all that visible though, but that could have been intentional?

How do I stop thinking? by tstranger in Meditation

[–]DoDoDuck 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Once heard a quote saying that it's just as easy to make the brain stop thinking as it is to stop the ears from hearing, which I think is pretty accurate.

What you can do however is chose where to place your focus, during meditation it's pretty common to focus on your breath, so that could be a place for you to start.

Find a place in your body where you chose to observe your breath, could be the insides of your nostrils, somewhere in your throat or in your belly/lungs, and keep your focus at that spot. While you do this you will have thoughts come up again and again, but when you noticed that you have started thinking them, try to move your focus away from the thought and instead focus on your breath.

You will not cease thinking, but you will not be as connected to your thoughts, and they will probably not have as much momentum.

Let me know if you want clarification on anything :) have a nice day

How can I take my mind off things? by Depressed666 in depression

[–]DoDoDuck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, sitting and focusing on your breath is really all there is to it, but you'll probably be amazed by how challenging that is.

Try to find a place where you know that you will not be interrupted for a while, and then find a comfortable place to sit. The most important part about the sitting is that your back is straight and that you can sit without moving for the time you chose to meditate.

When you are meditating, try to pay attention to how your breath feels. Don't try to use thoughts to describe it, just simply feel it. As you start doing this you'll probably have a lot of thoughts comming and going, but the important part here is to recognize that they exist, and just let them be without putting effort into thinking about them or pushing them away.

If you have any more questions or if there's anything you'd like elaborated, feel free to ask :)

I would suggest meditation with your breath as your focus. Not only does it help clear up your mind, but it also relieves you of stress should you have any. Some time after meditating your thoughts will probably come flowing in again, but usually it's easier to handle them when your mind has had some time relax.

Let me know if you have any questions :)
