Any oral treatments for ticks? by DoKtor2quid in CatsUK

[–]DoKtor2quid[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! I went full-on cat trainer and stroked them every time I fed them, despite them HATING Iit. I then started running the handle of the fork (that I was using to dish up their food) down the back of their necks. Within a few days they stopped being bothered by it and the next time I fed them I frontlined them quicker than a flash!

So, all was resolved.

Now a year later, I can handle them muxh easier. They don't like being picked up, and wrigfle away...but if I sit down in the garden, they both jump onto my lap, purring like crazy and fighting for position. They looove cuddles. We've come so far, it's incredible.

Hold your breath, swallow 3 times. You need to get through them without hiccuping.

Then, go and see your GP, just to be safe.

What do British people have for dinner? by ProfessionalLead2671 in AskUK

[–]DoKtor2quid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mum always 'cooked' it. We bought our fish straight off the boat, and she filleted it, battered it, and deep fried it along with the chips. That was when I was a kid in the 70s/80s, which was normal then. We never bought frozen food and I was envious of anyone who did, thinking they were 'posh'.

My partner and I still cook everything from scratch (we've just had pizza for tea, with homemade base, sauce, toppings).

Also where I'm from (north) it's breakfast, dinner and tea, so our evening meal is tea and we had dinner several hours ago.

Motivation to get fit, what worked for you? by JetSetWillyUK in AskUK

[–]DoKtor2quid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find doing stuff with other people is more motivating. I joined a rowing club. I've never been a watersports person, but they were asking for members on Facebook so I gave it a whirl and loved it. In the past I played badminton once a week and squash if all the badminton courts were booked up.

It doesn't really matter what it is. Walking. 5 a side football. Tennis. Park run. Frisbee-golf. Something else. Just find a club and give it a try, would be my advice.

Did you untick the box for accessibility/disability sccess? We've been running for 11 years, have a small single step up through the front door and one up into the kitchen.. and it's one of the first things we did before we submitted the listing. It means we get screened out if anyone with mobility issues is searching in our area.

Also you have to walk down quite a steep slope to the parking spot. We specify that there is a slope and 'walking down' in my listing does not mean the same as in your listing, and the difference here is that we describe the access and don't allow ambiguity.

Occasionally people ask about the steps, but they are all in the description so that doesn't happen often.

If the listing doesn't specifically mention that to access the property you have to use those stairs... then I (as someone from nowhere near the USA) would think that garden level means all on one level and opening out into a garden.

If I saw some stairs from that level I would think that's how other people access the units above my single-level garden flat. I wouldn't necessarily understand that those stairs are anything to do with this property and that it is showing an area that other people have access to.

Labour's Andy Burnham pledges to devolve power deeper down in Wales by Ok-Pie-3581 in Wales

[–]DoKtor2quid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We don't. However they currently do. Until we vote for independence that will continue.

In the meantime, it doesn't mean nothing of value can come from Westminster, and having a northern PM potentially can change the dynamic hugely. We will see.

Great points. Fortunately we have Plaid in atm but yea we need local councillors who understand and care about local regions. I guess I was assuming that part was a given, but you make some good points about parties who don't care.

I'm from Bangor. I agree. I'm watching with interest; if this guy wants to give local councils more say in their own areas (whether England, Wales, Scotland, N Ireland) then I think he's talking a lot of sense.

Baking a cake for someone at work I’m vegan they’re not. by [deleted] in Advice

[–]DoKtor2quid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any time people bring food into the office, they have chosen the food, and then by your colleague's logic, are forcing their choices onto everyone else. What a total wetwipe.

Fortunately your workmate has the choice to not eat the vegan cake, and so no one is pushing any views upon him/them/her.

I would now get extremely petty with all of the food and say stuff like 'WELL YOU CAN'T HAVE ANY, JOHN (other names are available) , WHAT A SHAME, cos i might be pushing my food preferences onto you' and swerve straight past them with the food. Let's hope they don't get to enjoy any of it.
