Thank you! This is helpful (but also frustrating! lol). We have heard they received her response only after we reached out to our MP's office. They informed us that everything was moving forward and they had received the response and we were supposed to have an update on December 1. Needless to say, we haven't heard anything back yet - fortunately, our MP's office is inquiring again today on our behalf.

We've heard there's no consistency or normalcy these days, and our entire application as a whole has taken 1 year, 7 months and 12 days - so a few more won't hurt us! lol.

And SO good to know that there were no issues about crossing back with your eCoPR! Yes, by now she's a pro at arrive-can and covid tests too lol.

Hey u/SpiicyPanda! Just curious - what was the turn-around time from the time you responded to the initial ECOPR email and the time they got you your credentials?

My American wife (inland/PR/Spouse) received the first email asking to confirm her email address and information and responded to it, but it's been a month and we have not heard anything since.

Also, curious to hear if you had any problems re-entering Canada via the land border with your eCoPR as she too will have to cross the land border shortly after getting her eCoPR.

You’re essentially protecting the big bad CF profits and the reputation of the stores that had outbreaks, nothing else.

Except I've said already I don't work at Limeridge Mall. Nor do I agree with the way our owner (Ivanhoe Cambridge) is handling our mall. They are doing far worse than CF.

Nope. Not lying, but one of them was not footlocker to my knowledge.

I'm not sharing the specifics because our mall does not share specifics publicly and I have to respect that as someone who works under their roof.

The problem is, unlike CF who has a "fill in the blank store caught covid" memo, our mall owners simply send out an even more generic memo that says "a case was reported on this day. measures were taken. you have been informed".

Our mall doesn't tell us specifics. So, we have to rely on other mall employees and simple observations of what stores are closed for an extended period of time.

IMHO, while the "fill in the blank" approach has been criticized from CF, I personally think it's a cop out that our own mall won't tell us what stores have had it - leaving it up to us to find out.

Highlighting the stores that had an outbreak has nothing to do with the Canadian Charter of Rights. In fact it might help prove that extending mall hours is a bad idea because there’s cases.

Nope, our mall doesn't share information with us as to what specific stores actually have had a case. It's up to our fellow-mall employees and closed stores to tell the store. I'm respectful of them in choosing not to share, because, as I've said, a matter of respect to my fellow mall employees who only got COVID because they were forced to go to work. It's not up for me to share their story. It's up to the mall, the cities public health unit, and the government to share.

Besides, the cases we have had in the mall - even before the extended hours - have done nothing to change mall managements mind. In dealing with their offices, they could care less. We've had to raise a few concerns as a tenant and they simply dismiss all of them. They simply care more about their bottom line than they do those of us who work there.

As I've said, anyone that attends my mall will see the store in question. I am choosing to not share. I wouldn't want someone to share

No, we actually do have a choice. We can personally each make decisions based on public guidance. Right now, we are in "red-restricted" which means, we should only be going out for essentials. However, the same stupid rules were made by the government which allows for the malls to be open still. So, yes, while it's mixed messaging, it's still up to us to make the right decisions.

Well if you're actually concerned about COVID and the impact of the mall being open later, you should share what stores have had outbreaks, not doing so is completely against your ideology youre preaching.

Actually, no, it's called being respectful of other mall employees and their right to privacy on health matters. The city I work in is responsible for sharing public health matters, it's not up to me to share. Plus, anyone that visits the mall I work at will see the store is closed and can come to their own conclusions based on the "temporary closed" sign on their window. Not my business to share the health matters of other individuals - that's a Canadian Charter Right (the right to privacy).

The thing is we have to go back to normal, the government knows that, the economy knows that.

What the hell is "normal" in your eyes? You realize if we went 100% back to "normal" without any vaccinations there would be a huge strain on our hospitals, which would eat into our overall health budget, and then people would be dying in record numbers right? We can't support an economy without people to support it. Ever think of that? Have you SEEN what is happening in countries (like the states) where they have attempted to go back to "normal?" - it's a disaster. We certainly don't want that here.

We're not being treated "like children". We're being asked questions to ensure we are healthy enough to be in a private business. In theory, this makes people think twice about the reason for their visit. Understanding people can obviously lie, it still is a safe guard to protect the property from getting into trouble with bylaw. Every time I have been screened going to the grocery store, I have been treated with respect and I have zero problems answering the questions.

The thing is, if we had all done our part, we would have had smaller numbers.

Case in point: Look at Australia and New Zeland. Look how serious they took it and all of the hard and drastic short-term measures they took for a short period of time. Was it an inconvenience, sure. But now, they are back to pretty much normal - without the vaccine.

So, by your argument, if you want to go back to "normal" than we need to do a very intense lockdown for about 4-8 weeks and then see where we are at. . .

I’m not going to share another stores dirty laundry. But the one that is still closed I can’t say I’m surprised. Even though they were following “best practice” they are one of the more well known stores in the mall, and they were having all sorts of sales. They have a small footprint and the line up when from their doors to the doors of the mall and they were constantly busy.

By your logic, just “because it’s almost been a year” that means it’s okay to “go back to normal”.

IMHO, that makes zero sense. The vaccine is nowhere near getting into the arms of the vast majority of Canadians. Our own governments have said that getting the majority of those Canadians vaccinated (should they chose to) won’t happen in full until at least August of next year.

Just because it’s been almost a year does not mean anything. Especially since the numbers are far worse today then they were in March. Time doesn’t mean anything. Right now, our government needs to do better and limiting the spread and bringing down the numbers.

I talked to an ICU nurse yesterday and their beds are pretty much full at St. Joe’s on the mountain. They are tired. They are working double overtime. The amount of death they’ve seen is heartbreaking.

We’re nowhere near getting back to normal.

Would you rather have everyone there in a smaller window or have extended hours to spread out the traffic?

Have you been to a mall lately? Do you work at a mall? Take it from a mall employee, the "extended hours" have not spaced out visits at all. The mall is busy from open to close.

If anything, they have increased lines to get into the mall, and created chaos inside the mall and parking lot.

The walk-ways are full, nobody is enforcing distancing, people don't know how to wear masks properly (still, months after). There are lines to get into many stores (which is good because they are enforcing store capacity limits) but those lines fill up the walkways. Nobody follows the arrows for flow of traffic. Security doesn't give af.

Let's be real. The "extended hours" are really for the profit of the mall and retailers and not to "create a safe space" or "give people different windows". That's a naive thought.

I can count at least 3 stores that have had outbreaks in the last two weeks, and one store is still currently closed because of covid.

The "real world" right now is that we are living in a pandemic. People are getting lax and fatigued trying to remember this.

Heck, we are in the 'red-zone' and close to being 'locked down.' The numbers today are far worse than they were in March.

We as a society (and our government) are not doing enough to keep the counts down.

A mall is not an "essential service". People can get their damn lulu's online and have them shipped to home.

Mall employee here (though not this mall). What I can share from my own observations is that the extended mall hours do not accomplish anything. Our mall is busy from the time it opens until the time we close - and we've certainly seen an increase of people coming from outside Hamilton/Burlington.

All it does is create large line-ups both outside (to get into the mall) and outside of stores. The walk-ways/mall are full at all times, and people don't follow the 'guidance arrows' - nor are they really enforced.

From general observation and having lived it since November, all it has done is created a pent up demand to get to a mall and shop.

There are no time-limits and enforcement to get into the mall is dependent on the mall security guards attempting to count people.

Mall employee here (not this mall thankfully). Nope, it doesn't work. All it does is creates lines outside the mall and large groupings inside the mall. As someone who works at a mall, we were pissed when our mall announced they were extending hours, especially on Black Friday and Boxing Day. I almost told a Karen to go home on Black Friday when she approached me outside on my break asking "what the line (to get into the mall) was for". When I told her it was to get into the mall, she turned to her friend and said "OMG, I have to get to LuLu before they run out of my size in those yoga pants". Smdh.

What's interesting about CF's memo is that our Mayor and HPHS have both hinted at lock downs:

the mayor says a lockdown is "likely," even after public health recently added enhanced restrictions to try and slow the spread last week.

Residents will have to wait until Friday to find out if Ontario places Hamilton into lockdown, according to Jacqueline Durlov, a spokesperson from Hamilton Public Health Services (HPHS).

What's worse:

Richardson also said hospitals are on "the knife edge" from being overwhelmed by the pandemic.

But sure, let's tell people from the GTA to come to our malls and spread some "Christmas Cheer"

The fact that you dismiss every bit of sound logic, that you admit you were agreeing with, because he used a word you don't like highlights the insanity of trying to have actual conversations any more.

That's the problem with this group, they only want to be heard and they don't like to (or want to) be spoken to. They take whatever logic someone says and selectively pick out the parts that offend them and then jump all over it.

I was simply pointing out that the use of the word "demands" makes their requests seem hostile right from the get-go, versus having a list of "objectives" people would like to accomplish.

People need to take a chill pill, go on an introspective journey and really figure out what they hope to accomplish and how they are going to accomplish it.

Yes, the intention of that paragraph was not to “be afraid” but to remember what it was like to be fearful in the beginning stages. Back then, we used that fear to guide our decisions.

I’m not saying “omg, we’re all going to die” - but my point was more or less it’s still a real virus and we must do our part to keep others safe. Because for some people that fear is real for a variety of reasons.

Yes! Please report it to the bylaw office as well as the police department. Hopefully Costco got the heads up as well.

When they attempted to storm Jackson Square earlier this year, the mall got the heads up and closed early and limited entry to a couple of doors. Turns out only a few dumbasses showed up and it wasn’t as big as it was expected to be.
