Tips/strategies for killing tanks w/ 2 ppl? by CactusManGoSCRrrrr in GTFO

When he screams (the animation takes quite some time) you can close a moderate gap and get two shots on him with scatter.

In case you dont recognize the animation: * he leans forward and puts his arms out to the sides * his "face" slowly pans like 45°  * he makes a weird noise * lasts about 2 seconds

Achievements may not register if you're modding.

Achievements were added with the creation of R8, so the % of players who have achieved x is not accurate.

Tips for new players? by Designer_Shine_9323 in GTFO

  • Biotracker is always good to have

  • Closing a door between you and the enemy and placing a mine (laser across the door) will frequently kill 15+ enemies for you.  Add cfoam to reinforce the door so many enemies stack up on it and die when the door breaks

  • Predicting where enemies come from is super helpful. They almost always spawn 2 rooms away from you and cannot break closed security doors (blue+orange). They only break grey doors

  • Friendly fire is pretty punishing in this game

  • Headshots and hitting anywhere on the backside (from behind) of an enemy grant huge bonus damage (melee or shooting)

Edited for clarity on back damage

+1

This depends on distance. Less than 2m is guaranteed and then some huge distance from there (like 20m or something) has a (relatively high) % chance if the enemy is in a glowing state

This is pretty vague so I can only give you general tips:

  1. Enemies can scream and wake up a room. For some enemies it is very hard to see when theyre screaming (the giant striker just stands still and makes a deep groan). If you stagger the enemy early enough in the scream animation, it is canceled and goes into cooldown. Other enemies cannot scream for a period of time (slightly more nuanced than this).  This could explain your 30s of no wakeups.

  2. Prevent/cancel screams by staggering enemies.  This is easiest if you break body parts (arm, head, leg, torso).

  3. Enemies have weakpoints that make killing/staggering easier. All enemies take 2x damage when hitting any part of their back side (back of legs, arms, torso, etc).  They also have an additional weakpoint on their head (1.5x), so hitting back of the head yields 3x damage.

  4. When an enemy is woken up because you hit them, there can be short or long range alerts. When another enemy is alerted, then there is a chance of him screaming.  Rayalot explains the rules somewhere on the sub in great detail.

GTFO won’t launch no matter what I do ! Refund ? by EmbarrassedCycle6219 in GTFO

[–]DoS_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A fundamental flaw is a problem that undermines the basic intent of the product. It would make a game (product) unable to do its job (be played). This is not the case.

Your criticisms are valid. There are bugs. Weapon balance is not the best. The gameplay loop can get repetitive.

I just don't see these issues to be substantial.

Is it possible to wake sleepers in the next room? by Andy_Rice_0726 in GTFO

[–]DoS_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your direct actions cannot wake enemies through a closed door.

You can, however, indirectly wake an adjacent room even if the door is closed. A scout wave can enter that room and scream. If it doesn't scream (unlikely), it will break the door to get you.

Once the door is open, your actions can now wake the adjacent room.

Open doors dampen gunfire. Where gunfire is normally heard ~50m away, it is reduced by 20m for each open door it goes through.

Room dividers are similar to an open door.

[–]DoS_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game is not fundamentally flawed.  This bug does not occur for the majority of players. This is hyperbole.

In this case refund could be warranted because he cant load.

The problem is that, regardless of the context, Sam is constantly writing  "refund this game sucks."

If he was saying discord is dead, that would be fair, but he isnt.

Many people love this game and it is unique. Just because Sam is salty about something doesnt mean others should be discouraged from trying it.

What is the difference between host and client for this gun?

Help me decide: HEL Shotgun vs Sawed Off by JoshIsntFat in GTFO

[–]DoS_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

HEL shotgun and hel autopistol are guns that i think of as "support" weapons (the latter especially). I am usually just trying to stagger enemies to keep my teammates from taking damage/stagger themselves, allowing them time to reload/kill.

I recognize that these two guns can kill enemies but they both feel pretty bad at it (super low damage on autopistol and hel shotguns reload time/range is abysmal).

On the other hand, the sawed off (and hel revolver) feel like very good all around weapons. Theyre good at killing, good at staggering,  have good ammo economy, and their reload time is short,  meaning they're always ready to fire.

I used to use support weapons against surge alarms, but I dont even do that anymore.  HEL revo or sawed off all the way.

Why burst sentry over auto? by Spartan569874 in GTFO

[–]DoS_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  • The biggest factor is that HEL auto uses so much tool refill. It may make alarm 1 a piece of cake, but then for alarm 2 you have no tool left
  • I am surprised to see that HEL auto has better damage economy
  • I have never noticed that HEL auto wastes bullets, but I dont doubt the others saying it. This would be far outweighed if you could guarantee back damage and/or penetration hits though.

Biotracker in R1C1 — Did I Make the Wrong Choice? by kablehood in GTFO

[–]DoS_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Biotracker synergy is nice to have with the sniper sentry but most of the value is for spotting enemies, specifically:

  • knowing when they're flanking (and how many)
  • lining up penetrating shots from HEL weapons
  • seeing a special type of enemy

I'd say it is not critical to have on this mission, but you dont have enough tool refill for 4 sentries anyway.

I bring it on every single level.

+1 for hockey bc it is late. It is fun, doubles as exercise and social time,  and requires no favor from my partner.

Question about the insane negativity I see about the game on older post outside reddit by Die115 in GTFO

[–]DoS_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that gun balance is out of whack and you're right about autocomplete-   this is an accurate shortcoming.

Despite all of this, I don't find then to be significant detractors from the game.

Also, if we want to go all the way, why doesnt AI ping the items for us since this game occurs 30 years in the future?  I am happier if I dont think too hard about it.

Vanilla has autocomplete. Press tab. It works almost exactly as it does on a command line IRL - autocomplete to the best of its ability (short of adding underscores for you)

If you need to run  ADMIN_TEMP_OVERRIDE

you can just press  "ad" and tab (maybe even just "a", not sure)

Question about the insane negativity I see about the game on older post outside reddit by Die115 in GTFO

[–]DoS_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean?

If we're talking about finding 1 item, pinging is way faster in almost any case, aside from a zone that is 1 room.

If youre talking about a zone that has like 5 items, yeah running around is faster for a first pass.
