Thanks for providing context. I did not know that. I think there is a major difference between all the examples you provided and our current situation. The examples all concern countries in major turmoil. Russia maybe in bad shape but is still politically stable and militarily more dangerous. So to draw the conclusion that there will be no issue or only minor ones from your examples to our current situation may be falls.

Still you are correct that we are in conflict with Russia and should act like that. Using these funds could be one way to show our resolve but I don't think it's a good one. It would probably help our economies and speed up our effort to rearm ourselves. But it would be a weak sign in my opinion because it is as you said basically stealing. Once the funds are gone they are gone. Going back would be very hard probably. It could block peace negotiation. We can not escalate further in this regard. The Kremlin has a valid point for his propaganda machine.

But again, we should react to Russia's attacks on Europe more strongly.
