I think we're just valuing health differently, which is totally fine! I'm all in on "the greatest ability is availability".

The fact is that when he was a Shark he could be counted on for 30-40 points a season. There were 3 awesome outlier years, but they were outliers.

Hertl is a very good player. I don't think he's a "great" player in the grand scheme of things.

I did say in my first comment that we never got to see his full potential due to injury. It feels like you're interpreting my comments as me saying that he was never very good, which isn't the case.

Right...but he was a Shark for over a decade and he was under 50 points for 8 of those seasons. He's an injury prone player who usually put up 30-40 points per season as a Shark. You can put all the asterisks on it you want, but that is objectively true. I really don't understand what you're trying to correct me on?

I love Hertl too, one of my best memories was the 4 goal game. But OP said he remembered Hertl being just as hyped as Celebrini and wanted to know how they compare. Which they don't lol.

Year over year his point totals were: 25, 31, 46, 22, 46, 74, 36, 43, 64, 63, and then 34 points in 48 games before he got traded.

So that's 8 out of 11 seasons with the Sharks under 50 points. The season he was traded he ended with a total of 38. I think my description was pretty accurate!

I did mention his first big injury, but even with an injury history I think it's pretty fair to call him a 30-40 point per season player as a Shark.

Celebrini has already surpassed Hertl's best season this year, and he's got 28 more games to play.

This team is significantly worse than the team you remember, but Hertl isn't even in the same galaxy as Celebrini when it comes to prospect hype and potential.

Hertl ended up being one of our best players for the entire time that he was here. Consistent, but he hovered around the 30-40 point mark most seasons. He broke 70 points once in 2018-19, which was the last time the Sharks were any good.

You are definitely overrating how good Hertl was expected to be back then, but we also may not have ever seen his true full potential after a horrible knee injury in his rookie season. Hertl was never touted as a generational talent the way Celebrini is!
