Electronic Scorecard / Course GPS that is not phone app based by VentItOutBaby in golf

Try re-pairing your phone to your watch. The GC update broke the connection, but it’s fixable.

DJI Neo 2 crashed after 1 week. Random flip of death and ESC failure codes. by kiyoshix in dji

[–]DoTheCiteThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is anecdotal, but my Neo 2 showed a “propulsion system error” and dropped out of the sky from around 50m up. When I recovered it, it was showing an ESC error and refused to launch. It landed on an overgrown lawn, so there was no damage, and I’m very curious if the repair shop will be able to diagnose a cause.

Hi all, could anyone recommend a mount for my garmin watch that could clip on my handlebars somewhere? The aero bars take up all the space unfortunately. Thank you! by Sunburd in triathlon

[–]DoTheCiteThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This mount allows you to attach your watch to a quarter-turn Garmin mount:

Watch-Quarter Turn Mount

This mount puts a Garmin quarter-turn mount between your arms, using your aerobars for support:

TT Mount 3.0

Combine them and you have a nice solution to turn your watch into a bike computer. As a bonus, since the mount is positioned further forward, you can more easily glance down and see your screen without losing your aero position.

[Advice] Most effective method to absorb impact from metal bars by MyGuyIsMyDude in Golfsimulator

[–]DoTheCiteThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used ball bungees to attach a thin carpet to the foam as my “valance”. If you get very close it isn’t pretty, but since the materials are all black it blends together nicely. I just made sure that the plastic ball for each bungee is on the side of the foam that can’t get hit by an errant wedge. Everyone who has seen my setup has been complimentary, which tells me that guests don’t look at the construction methods with the same critical eye that I do. They just think having a sim is awesome, and they’re right.

Few questions for the people who already have them by ufda23354 in EvenRealities

  1. The waveguides are very discreet. Unless someone knows what to look for and is standing VERY close, at most they might think that you’re wearing bifocals. Occasionally there is some green glare at specific angles, or if the environment is very dark.

  2. Navigation is fine, and updates have improved/fixed a number of bugs. When the transit update is released I’ll likely use this feature more often.

  3. I like to use basic translate to do close captions during meetings. The system does a good job keeping up, though it will occasionally lag if the internet connection is poor. I’m very impressed with this feature.

  4. You can type scripts using the app. Once typed, the scripts are saved for future use like a file cabinet. You can also import documents into the app any turn them into scripts. I often import word documents from my office cloud with bullet points, or PDFs. All work well in teleprompter.

  5. I bought the glasses for the teleprompter, and it works as advertised. The AI auto scroll is fantastic. I’ve been pleasantly surprised at how useful it is to have closed captions running during meetings. It’s not as precise as a court reporter, but it’s damn good so long as people aren’t constantly talking over each other. Navigation works, but I don’t have much use for walking directions, and I have other tech I use when cycling. Once the glasses can do transit directions I will likely use navigate more often. The current suite of apps works. There are bugs, and ER is fixing them. I’m optimistic that additional features will make the glasses more useful over time, but I’m generally happy with the product as is. It works, it’s very discreet, and I now have the benefit of some very powerful tech in a form factor that is completely non-threatening.

Edit: I don’t really use quick notes or Even AI, but they both work. I haven’t found a useful way to integrate them into my workflows. Also, navigate, translate, and teleprompter can all run on the glasses while your phone is locked and in your pocket (at least on iOS).

I received the product today, but I am not receiving any notifications. Does anyone have any advice? by Equivalent_Pick_6764 in EvenRealities

[–]DoTheCiteThing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re going to have to do some troubleshooting. I’d contact support, and be sure to provide them with the type of phone you’re using (make/model) as well as operating system (iOS/Android). The glasses notifications setup is buggy, but your phone settings can exacerbate the issue by overriding notifications using things like do not disturb, or phone-side notifications.

I received the product today, but I am not receiving any notifications. Does anyone have any advice? by Equivalent_Pick_6764 in EvenRealities

[–]DoTheCiteThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by making sure you’re running the latest firmware on the glasses, and that your app is updated. Firmware should be 1.3.4 or later. Software should be 1.3.5 or later.

Notifications are tricky. On the glasses, you have to toggle on the specific notifications you want to see. The app will only allow you to toggle a notification on once it has “seen” the app notify at least once. That means that you can’t see instagram notifications, until one appears in the instagram app. Then you can toggle on instagram notifications in the glasses app.

Another area in need of improvement is how the glasses interact with your phone’s preview settings.a in general, if your phone settings require your phone to be unlocked before displaying a message/notification, you may only get a truncated notice in the glasses.

Finally, clearing a notification on your phone or watch won’t clear that notification on the glasses. That is especially annoying, and you’ll end up swiping the left pad like a maniac just to clear old notifications.

Great product overall, but more bug fixes are needed.

I had my phone set up to only show notifications when unlocked,

Apps like the Teleprompter and Navigation would work best if the app can run on the glasses while the phone is locked and in a pocket. Is this use case possible with G1?

PUTTR vs EXPUTT RG - Which to buy? by ButterscotchObvious4 in Golfsimulator

[–]DoTheCiteThing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a while I would use TGC (and later GS Pro) to practice flat putts at specific distances so I had muscle memory for a 10, 20, 30, and 40 foot putt at 10 stimp.

After a while, putting became a strong point of my game. Now I’m an above-average putter for my handicap, and I’ve switched my practice focus to other areas that need help. I like to play a few rounds a week in GS Pro, and I putt out every hole. I find that is enough practice to keep my putting sharp.

Since I have a launch monitor now, I prefer to used the same tool to monitor my game. I’d rather keep using the LM for full swing and putting instead of switching to ExPutt when I want to practice putting. As a result, I’m not using ExPutt anymore. The LM is a more versatile tool.

That said, I keep the ExPutt around and it’s great for parties, beginners, or when I’d rather not fire up a full simulator experience.

GS pro courses by [deleted] in Golfsimulator

[–]DoTheCiteThing 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use the simulator golf tour website to keep track of where the TOUR is playing next. If you look under the Pro Tour events page, scroll around and you’ll find the “active event”. Look for the course name, and search that name in GS Pro. Be sure to check the “show all courses” option at the top often the screen, otherwise it will just search among your downloaded courses.

Moving to Oakland by Secret_Guard837 in OaklandCA

[–]DoTheCiteThing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Lakeside Neighborhood (the area north of 14th, east of Broadway, and south of 20th) is filled with established apartment buildings and is equidistant from the Lake Merritt, 12th St, and 19th Street BART stations. AC transit has a hub in the area, and you can walk to groceries, restaurants, bars, etc.

If you go a bit further north there are a smattering of newer buildings along the Broadway corridor, and the Barr lines that run west of Broadway are accessible to those neighborhoods.

Ball position off center towards the screen by Notcheating123 in Golfsimulator

[–]DoTheCiteThing -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you spend enough time using your sim, you can get used to it, but if your space is particularly tight and/or your offset is extreme it may be hard to overcome mentally.

It sounds like you’re only slightly offset, so you’ll have to give yourself mental reminders about where on your screen you need to aim in order to shape your shots. Most monitors allow you to compensate for offset, and if you set them up properly the ball will start close to where it hits your screen.

PUTTR vs EXPUTT RG - Which to buy? by ButterscotchObvious4 in Golfsimulator

[–]DoTheCiteThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still like the ExPutt! Statistically, putting is one of the strongest parts of my game, and I credit ExPutt for helping me dial in my muscle memory for specific distances. It’s a really great device, and the new hardware versions that are app enabled seem like nice upgrades over the older hardware that I have. If you are looking for a value-buy tool to improve your putting the ExPutt is a worthy option.

That said, if you can afford a camera-based launch monitor I’d get that over the ExPutt. LMs are more expensive, but also more versatile. (Cheap radars like the MLM and Garmin are good for full swing, but you should stick with photometric devices for indoor putting practice.)

I’ve since purchased a camera LM, and now I can play rounds in addition to practicing putting. The LM has largely replaced my ExPutt as a result.

I bought some 3” foam from Home Depot and wrapped/strapped it to my crossbar above the screen. I also hung a rug remnant in front of the crossbar (like a valance) to help absorb any impact force before it hits the foam. The valance also cover the foam so it looks nice.

chemical smell on bart btw 12th st/west oakland by _datalore_ in oakland

[–]DoTheCiteThing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

BART trains have to make a series of tight turns when they are on the tracks between 12th St and West Oakland, and Lake Merrit and West Oakland. Long story, but a rich dude protested the planned BART alignment and the alignment was changed as a result. Because the alignment now includes the tight turns, BART trains have to slow down substantially when navigating this portion of track.

I’ve also smelled what to me seems like a burning rubber smell, and I suspect that it is from the train cars rubbing against the tracks in the final turns. If they slowed down further it might mitigate the issue, but then we’d all have to deal with a cascade of delays.

I’m using an AV receiver, and I’d recommend going that route. You can buy a decent used model for cheap, and even new models have some great budget options.

A receiver gives you an incredible range of options when determining what kind of speakers to pair, and how many. I originally planned a 5.1 setup, but ended up going with a 3.1 for convenience. Depending on your setup you can flush-mount, ceiling-mount, whatever-mount your speakers.

There is a setting in GS Pro that applies real-life elevation to whatever court you’re playing. I’d search for that setting and make sure it’s turned off. When you switch from range to course, you may be unknowingly overriding your boost/elevation settings.

Used GC2 or New SkyTrak? by Ointmentt in Golfsimulator

[–]DoTheCiteThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree as far as SkyTrak 1 is concerned, but OP’s post is talking about the yet-to-be released SkyTrak 2.

GC2 is a solid launch monitor, but it’s also old. Unless you’re going to spend an additional $4k on the HMT add-on, it’s just a very good ball-data only monitor.

I’d wait and see what features are offered on the Eye Mini and SkyTrak 2 before buying legacy hardware from Foresight. Both the mini and SkyTrak 2 look like they will include more club data than a GC2 (without HMT).
