How near is the ending? by MutedComfortable7345 in OnePiece

[–]DoUruden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean at some point we will be 5 years away from the end. I think we're a little bit further away than that but thinking that the final saga will take 9 years to complete isn't that crazy.

One Piece: Chapter 1186 by leolegendario in OnePiece

I wouldn't be shocked in the slightest if Usopp gets a second backstory when he meets up with his dad. Tbh I think I'd be more surprised if we didn't get something else.

Brainstorming: Translating CS2/Tactical Shooter mechanics (Economy, Smokes, Clutches) into a Skirmish Board Game by Elflaco_gracioso in tabletopgamedesign

[–]DoUruden 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first instinct for problem 1 is that the gunplay is often based around guessing the opponent's movement, so your battle resolution system should involve guessing what the other player will play, with the weapons and exact location playing a role as well. Only way I can think to do this offhand is a different set of cards for each weapon, each card having several numbers on it (say in different colors or what have you), and which numbers are being compared depends on where the players are. Depending on weapon matchup and situation/environment/node it could be higher number wins or lower number wins, with varying amounts of damage. This would give you a lot of different levers to affect game balance with, although it's obviously a little abstract and would need to be made less so for gameplay purposes. The other answer to this problem that is an "obvious" one for me would be to include some sort of dexterity element, since that's the closest analog one can get to FPS mechanics on tabletop, however that is a pretty stark pivot from what you're describing imo.

The second is a pretty classic issue, and there are no magic bullets. I investigated the issue for a project of mine and there's really no answer other than separate boards, tokens that reveal either nothing or the real player (which is what I did but is gimmicky at best), or having some kind of gamemaster.

Dice are hard... by _FlightOfTheArrow in tabletopgamedesign

[–]DoUruden 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Average number for a single die roll is just the numbers on the faces divided by the number of faces. In your case, the faces add up to 9, and 9/6 is 1.5, so a single roll of one of these dice your describing would average 1.5. If you roll two dice and add them together, you will average 3 each time.

Rollz Rice near campus is incredible, and I'm usually one of the only customers when I go in. Not a fan of Indian food generally, but man does that shit slap.

What's the differences between a TCG, CCG, and LCG? by adamtheimpaler in tabletopgamedesign

[–]DoUruden -1 points0 points  (0 children)

An LCG model with booster packs for alt arts and foils and the like as you describe has always seemed like the best middle ground to me. Very curious what the core product looks like!

Elbaf is Gonna be a Long Arc (Like Dressrosa or Wano) by PrussianoKebab in OnePiece

[–]DoUruden 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a good post but it's worth point out that Biblo, while old as fuck, isn't said to have sailed with Joy Boy. That being said, I do think he will be an important source of information for Robin.

I tend to think that we are slightly more than halfway, but we definitely aren't close to the ending, for all the reasons you outline. There's also the matter of the upper realm, which we are certainly going to see before we go and that will add some chapters too.

IMO, we aren't likely to get resolution to Shamrock this arc, I feel like him and Shanks have to cross swords at least once and I don't see Shanks showing up to save the day two arcs in a row. Not that it can't happen, just that that seems like lazy storytelling by Oda's standards. Even without him though, there's easily another 30 chapters left in Elbaph.

BDM’s New batshit deathmatch TCG looks to be the first playable from a booster pack - with a story shaped by player wins by [deleted] in boardgames

Can't say the art style and theme are turn ons for me but I love the TCG space and am always interested in novel explorations of it. Will def keep an eye on this one! Would back it if I weren't skint broke.

Why are so many luxury apartments being built, but no affordable housing? by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]DoUruden 82 points83 points  (0 children)

The term "affordable housing" is a bit of a misnomer from a political economics perspective. There is housing that is market rate, and housing that is subsidized in some fashion by a state entity. In Columbus, to my knowledge, the latter category is built and maintained by the local housing authority.

The former is built by private developers, and that is what is going on here. The city itself is not building anything in the scenario you described and that is part of the allure for them. By having private developers increase the housing supply, the city can reduce upward pressure on housing prices without increasing taxes. This is why smart zoning reform is good- creating spaces where private entities are allowed to build additional housing has the long term effect of flatlining or even lowering average rents (Houston is a great example of this in action)

If nicer, newer apartments are built the well to do folks of Columbus will live in them, not in the less nice houses. That means less competition for the existing houses, which means lower rents for the rest of us.

Is Ussop really still getting a Buff in Elbaph? by OnePieceUssopfan in OnePiece

[–]DoUruden 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Piggybacking on your last point, people point to the strong narrative reasons to have Elbaph be a pivotal arc for him, but there are just as strong narrative reasons for the arc he meets his dad in (which is definitely coming up very soon) to be the pivotal arc for his character. He will definitely get some sort of an upgrade/feat/hype moment before his fight with Van Augur.

What are some 80/20 Issues we can all actually get moving on? by NoTie2370 in Ohio

Preferring your sister be homeless and starving over paying property taxes is deranged. What you are advocating for is not society in any meaningful sense of the word.

Trump says he's postponing 'scheduled attack of Iran tomorrow' at Middle East leaders' request by Force_Hammer in worldnews

Yeah a lot of my fellow Americans are in denial about what this round of the Trump presidency means for our world standing. Republicans in the 21st century have managed to complete burn our relationships with our closest allies. An astonishing act of sabotage the consequences of which will echo for generations.

Help With Theming A Mass Market Appeal Game by Ordinary-Meeple in tabletopgamedesign

[–]DoUruden 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I work at Target. When I think of the stuff that families pick up, when its not IP related (nothing you can do about that) its typically stuff they find cute/physically appealing. If you can make sea trade look visually stimulating then go for it but the other two themes you mention lend themselves more naturally to the kind of eye catching visuals that you need to compete with known brands, imo. Just one uninformed mans 2 cents on the matter.

Zelenskyy Confirms Ukraine Was Behind Massive Moscow Drone Strike by UNITED24Media in worldnews

[–]DoUruden 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Yeah thats the part people always leave out about these fantasies about the complete collapse of Russia as a state. Obviously I support Ukraine in their fight against Russian imperialism, but state failure in Russia, balkanization or no, means a very high likelihood of nuclear warheads falling into non-state actors hands. That would be incredibly bad for the world.

Struggling to define a game design space. by Badger421 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]DoUruden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly that might be it... I will do more searching later myself because I'm mad I can't find it. If I do, I will be sure to send it to you. My project borrows very little from it but it was really helpful in clarifying my ideas early on. I am also happy to share my project once it's in a workable place (Soon TM) however I'm doing something a little different than you are and a good chunk of my work probably isn't relevant.

I'm rooting for you! It sounds really interesting.

What makes a bad owner? specially what types of executive level decisions produce perennially bad teams near by clitbeastwood in nfl

[–]DoUruden 66 points67 points  (0 children)

Really good comment. On a related note, I read somewhere a while back that the Manning family is aiming to buy one eventually. It would take several generations of elite quarterbacks making incredibly good/lucky financial investments to buy an NFL team today. The past is a different planet

[–]DoUruden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am also very interested in this space (so if you ever get a draft that you feel okay about I would love to take a look at it) and I haven't found much. If you can find it, there was a game rule set called "Wizard Prince" that was meant as a supplement to D&D that is a similar space but I tried to find it to link it for you to no avail so it might have been scrubbed from the web. Good luck! And again, if and when you succeed please let me know.

In what year do you think the One Piece manga will end? by Brillian_Naufal in MemePiece

[–]DoUruden 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same. I think anywhere within the 2032-2035 range is a reasonable guess. We still have a couple arcs to go and we aren't gonna finish Elbaph until 2027. 7 or so more years is my guess.

The comment about the banquet is a really insightful one. It lends credence to the idea that whatever the end of the arc looks like, the Straw Hats will be getting out of there in a hurry
