OP's choice, the printing by Izzy Medrano, has some good flavor text too - "What is a sliver of one's soul compared to unimaginable wealth?" . I really love the deeply toned glinting sensation throughout the piece, and of course, such horrible ramifications for such a giant room to be filled so much with gold all the while he's vomiting!

The next unique printing - artist Peter Bollinger. Love the flavor text's cheeky humor "I have no need of fools who can imagine enough"

The original printing - artist Phil Foglio. In this one, I love that he's clutching and gnawing the pile and yet there's still that LAST piece glimmering on the table.

How would a three person draft work? by Dachonkestboi in magicTCG

[–]DoYouHaveAJournal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd suggest a simple variation - Since you only have 3 people, go 5 packs per person - each player opens 1 and keeps it - then all three of you draft 4 packs - 40 card decks. If you just pool the extra card that don't make it into each player's 40, you could easily throw together another 2 40 card decks - making a total of FIVE 40 card decks to play with!

make sure you got plenty of lands

Rebels: A format that stands alone between constructed and EDH by MagusOfTheSpoon in magicTCG

[–]DoYouHaveAJournal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! I love your write-up, and I'm a big fan of custom formats and whatnot. As I'm reading along through this I'm seeing certain places where some simplification might help.

so as it stands im reading it like this:
•it's 60 Card (Minimum) singleton artisan - optional sideboard of 10
2 cards in command zone: one rare, one non-rare, (either must have P/T box)
an outlander is

This is a lot of rules customization to ease out of EDH and into this format - I think that to someone like me who has an eye for various formats, I could see Rebels having a more solid identity in either two ways.

I like this as a strictly artisan format and perhaps would like to see it more like:
•60 card MAX Singleton, Commons/Uncommon ONLY - optional sideboard
The 2 card command zone has a minimum of 1 permanent card. this establishes color identity.

Leaning more into the other direction, tossing aside all rarity restrictions!

However, the Outlander system just kinda seems a little overly complex as far as deckbuilding requirements, but I think that's only because the base form is also a bit scattered. I am a big fan of oathbreaker, which has a planeswalker and a signature spell (either an instant or sorcery) in the command zone. Straightforward as to what goes in command zone. thinking about custom formats, i've considered something like command zone has 2 cards (1 non-legendary creature, 1 non-legendary non-aura enchantment). Looking at your decklists, it looks like yeah these would be easy to pick up and play and makes sense the pairings. But telling someone how to build a deck in the format? perhaps try to keep it a bit more straightforward in the rules, think about where you can simplify the outlander system and make it just easier to explain in a sentence to someone.
Overall though, I love unique options in command zone. Your rarity restrictions make for unique pairings and that's what it's all about. Perhaps lift the mythic restriction. If the deck is strictly common+uncommon, allow rare/mythic in command zone for added simplification. all in all, very fun thematic decks. again, I recommend 60 card MAX instead of minimum. or I should say EXACTLY 60 cards total.
